You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

I suppose one of my previous posts is why we are getting "why are teachers posting on MN during the school day". Sorry.
(I posted that I had read a post of Noble's yr9 style under my desk while waiting for the students to complete a question)

ineedaholidaynow · 25/02/2021 20:14

I can understand undertakers being vaccinated as they will have to deal with COVID patients that have died so I assume there may be potential risk to them, but I assume there isn’t that risk to grave diggers

TheMoth · 25/02/2021 20:16

enemy is that better or worse than putting a wash on?Or making sure the kettle clicks off 2 minutes before your lesson starts to you can have your tea ready?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/02/2021 20:18

They're vaccinating grave diggers and undertakers because they need so many!

I hate this lie that people are vaccinated on clinical need. If that was true why have back office NHS staff been done?

RandomGrammarPun · 25/02/2021 20:24

My local police force has been done now - this is good news.

CallmeAngelina · 25/02/2021 20:32

@RandomGrammarPun

My local police force has been done now - this is good news.
Exactly! Good news. We should be able to be pleased about other front-liners getting theirs. But too many people seemingly vicious about the prospect of teachers also getting one.
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/02/2021 20:36

Police being done is great news, prison officers need to be done, followed by early years staff. Why exposure to covid hasn't been included in the calculations is bonkers to me.

TheHoneyBadger · 25/02/2021 20:37

Sorry I haven't caught up completely because I've just done a 3 hour online parents evening and then followed up with emails to those people who do what we in the counselling trade do door handle revelations (I can't actually remember what we called it but similar to that and basically means they fritter away the main session as if nothing is wrong and do a big reveal just as their time is up and they're on the way out the door).

Highlight of the evening was discovering that one of my favourite lazy chancers who I really enjoy had told his parents that I was his favourite teacher. For context no one has EVER bought me a bottle of gin etc as a teacher.

The fact that Bob thinks I'm great is enough for me Grin

MrsHamlet · 25/02/2021 20:38

Yes, I know some gravediggers. I knew Yorick too, quite well actually.
It feels a bit as though they're going to work through every occupational group before they get to us and then go "oops"

MrsHamlet · 25/02/2021 20:39

Go Honey - that's lovely :)

TheHoneyBadger · 25/02/2021 20:45

Ooh and the trainee observed and actually listened to my chat box comments about how talking to parents and kids together can improve your relationship and give you leverage.

If I say so myself I'm actually good with parents. My old HOD when I was teaching Science for a couple of years (still can't believe that) who was not a fan of praise used to be gushingly grateful about my presence at options evenings and the like. I would rescue her from stilted awkward interactions with a bit of warmth and humour and general chit chat about how it was going visiting schools etc.

I have no attachment to being seen as highly serious or posh or teacher like. I remember my first intake evening nervous as hell, new teacher, about 25 and all of the parents creeping into my room and clammering to be as far back from me as possible totally freaked out by being back in 'school'. My primary goal is put them at their ease and make them comfortable.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 25/02/2021 20:48

It's always lovely when you find out your appreciated, how nice Honey Halo

Moth - my other confession is being a few minutes late to my online bottom set yr 9 lesson on p5 last Friday as I was waiting for the kettle to boil.. but then I knew they would be later than me, and most wouldn't bother anyway! Grin

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 25/02/2021 20:50

You're

noblegiraffe · 25/02/2021 20:57

Has someone been complaining about teachers posting on MN during the day?

Hearing that a campaign group who want unsafe schools have been making formal complaints against people who call out their shit makes me wonder exactly what they've tried against me apart from petitioning MNHQ to ban me from posting and generally handwringing about my mental health. They're a vile group, aren't they?

TheHoneyBadger · 25/02/2021 20:57

Yeah even if it's only by Bob Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 25/02/2021 20:58

Super vile and not very smart imho Noble. Bob would agree that they're twats.

MrsHamlet · 25/02/2021 21:05

Bob is smart. He's not an intellect but he knows people.

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/02/2021 21:29

Isn't there some possibility of infection of undertakers from Covid deaths? I know they've got a whole new load of procedures to follow.
Gravediggers, not so much!

DreamingofBrie · 25/02/2021 21:29

Gosh, by the time we get to the end of this thread, there will have been 50 000 Republic posts! Thanks for the golden thread, Staff.

Great to hear that ds is getting his vaccination soon, monkeytennis.

We're testing next week and all back in on Monday 8th. I feel numb to it all, really. Can't change what is going to happen so trying not to worry about it. I think I'll go and see my parents this weekend or next, though.

RigaBalsam · 25/02/2021 21:30

My husbands school have got their plans today. Remote learning until the Thursday of the first week back and kids to be tested twice before this date.

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/02/2021 21:34

Yorick Mrs H. Very good.....

I'm getting worried about piggy from the migraine point of view.

Or possibly all her white goods, plumbing, car and internet (😱) have given up at the same time?

MrsHamlet · 25/02/2021 21:35

It's not the same without Piggy, is it? Let's see if we can tempt her out with boot boy. If that doesn't work, we'll need Chris.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/02/2021 21:38

Did piggy miss shag marry kill round two?

Can we have boot boy to shag and Chris to marry, kill wilshaw?

MrsHamlet · 25/02/2021 21:49

Sounds good to me Herc

TheHoneyBadger · 25/02/2021 21:51

I'm worrying about piggy too now.
