You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Just remote but still. Spent hours looking through recorded lessons to find ones that are suitable to share. Not dropping to live lessons ... as far as we know! Chris better be on form tomorrow.

SmileEachDay · 01/03/2021 21:06

Eep.
Why the ever living fuck ofsted think it’s helpful or appropriate I have no idea.
I have so few fucks left to give Id probably moon them if they did us.

Appuskidu · 01/03/2021 21:07

@Cracklefraggle

Sorry I've not posted for a while - loads going on. Just had to share 2 words with you all though ... OFSTED TOMORROW
Wow-good luck! Was your school overdue an Ofsted/in RI?
noblegiraffe · 01/03/2021 21:07

It’s more complicated if you work parts of days, due to trapped time though.

Tell me about it. The part time working rules all assume that you have working days and days you are off. They are fucking useless when you've got a patchwork timetable. It means as a part timer in another department with a nicer timetable than mine that gives them full days off can demand to be paid for coming in for INSET 'because it's their day off' while some of us are trying not to get a timetable where we are timetabled to teach P1 and then not again till P5, unpaid in between.

Cracklefraggle · 01/03/2021 21:10

How did you guess!

Cracklefraggle · 01/03/2021 21:11

That was to Appu

Mistressiggi · 01/03/2021 21:12

I find that my department always make the meetings for days I am in work, so that's the good part, but the bad part is I should only be doing .7 of the meetings too and it's hard to say you won't be at a meeting when they know it's on a day you work.. it's always the same with part time.

cantkeepawayforever · 01/03/2021 21:12

DH works for a setting that was Ofsteded within the first 3 days of it being announced they were starting inspections again....

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2021 21:13

Ofsted are like the anti-Chris.

CarrieBlue · 01/03/2021 21:14

My DH has Ofsted tomorrow......does he know you Cracklefraggle? Hmm

TheHoneyBadger · 01/03/2021 21:17

Thanks Appu. Yeah - I went in on a day off for one of the September insets because they like those prioritised but to me, and to the business manager, that means I don't have to attend any others even if they fall on my teaching day. The message just doesn't get handed down to HODs.

I think there probably needs to be more awareness in general of what part time means and what you can and can't ask of part time workers. A couple of years ago I had a HOD expecting me to write schemes of work in the summer term when I was part time and with no gain back time and she was expecting as much of me as full time specialists with half their timetable freed up by year 11 and 13 being out.

It seems like common sense to me but willfully ignored.

Cracklefraggle · 01/03/2021 21:18

Ooh Carrie might do! Liverpool??

CarrieBlue · 01/03/2021 21:27

Ah, no - t’other side of Pennines Crackle - they’re making up for lost time then! Good luck!

echt · 01/03/2021 21:34

This trapped time malarkey is one for the Burgundy Book. When does the contract get re-negotiated? I've lost touch with this aspect of UK teaching. In Victoria, each workplace agreement lasts 4 years before it's back to the table for unions and DET to thrash it out again.

Back to the point, if a PT member of staff works .8 or .6 (4 or 3 days), these are protected by the state agreement and can only be whole days, not strung out over a number of part days. It's bloody brilliant, I can tell you. I can't think of a reason why it can't work in the UK either. You do get lack of flexibility if you have loads of teachers on .6 in a school.

HarrietDVane · 01/03/2021 21:39

Oh Crackle! Shock What a nightmare! Best of luck to you and Carrie's DH.

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/03/2021 21:41

My school don't do trapped time, unless the PT teacher themselves day they don't mind having some trapped time (a couple of our PT staff want to be able to complete all work at school in school time, so would be in school whenever their unpaid time happened). All other pt teachers have either full or half days, aiming for full days if possible. Trapped time is very much seen as a BAD thing. Possibly because one of our SLT was pt for years when her kids were young so understands it from that point of view, which doesn't often happen.

HarrietDVane · 01/03/2021 21:49

We've nearly filled another thread! I'm heading over to switch the heaters on in the broom cupboard.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/03/2021 21:53

What's the deal with Ofsted? Are they doing full inspections? Carrying on next week? Do we get any grace period?

phlebasconsidered · 01/03/2021 21:57

WTAF Crackle???!!! That is certifiably insane. Are they even actually allowed to really physically visir?

JanFebAnyMonth · 01/03/2021 21:58

Of all the weeks for Ofsted to come. Thinking of you crackle

phlebasconsidered · 01/03/2021 21:59

WhenSheWasBad · 01/03/2021 22:00

Ofsted? How does that even work over lockdown? Good luck

Cracklefraggle · 01/03/2021 22:07
