Hello all! Welcome to any school staff looking to improve their diet/exercise in 2021!

Last year I lost 5 stone and my BMI dropped from 42 to 28. My aim this year is to drop another 2 stone to get into the 'normal' weight category and to improve my stamina with jogging.

Welcome all!Smile

Achey from the squats yesterday (not many Shock) might try a few a day, say 10 rather than one big session a week.

Thinking about trying a longer run except it's raining.

HarrietDVane · 03/01/2021 08:00

Ugh. Just woken up. So much for my plan to at least wake up at a plausible 'school day' time and get myself back in the routine. Safe to say I'm not a morning person.

It's DD1's birthday and there is no use pretending that I'm not having cake. I will try to limit myself to a small slice. I also need to put the Christmas chocolate away in a cupboard to make it more difficult for me to get to it. It might not work completely but if it works some of the time, it's a start.

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 03/01/2021 13:12

@HarrietDVane I know exactly what you mean. My chocolate is now on top of the kitchen cupboard. Now I not only have to go into the kitchen to get it, I have to find a stool because I'm a shortarse and I make myself only take a little at a time. If nothing else, I'll get my steps up by walking to the kitchen! 😂

Ulelia · 03/01/2021 15:24

Yesterday I flew! Forgotten what that was like. So time in airports and disturbed sleep meant I did not run, so that's RED January over already Shock although tbf I knew I probs wouldn't be able to do it. I did get 17000 steps in though as had a long walk after I got here (Spain, with my Dad) and airports do give you a surprising number of steps! Why is the gate always so far away?
I also ate ALL the cheese last night though. And had 2 glasses of wine. Oh well. I don't think healthy eating really starts til I go back to school (which, I'm sorry, is next Monday 11th for us).
Today I played padel (bit like tennis) for 90 minutes and now I might go for a run. I really should be fitter considering my exercise levels. Sigh. (conviently ignoring the huge amount of fried potatoes I ate for lunch...) well done everyone for your various achievements so far!

Ulelia · 03/01/2021 15:25

@Saucery

My FakeyFitBit has decided to stop working (had it years) so that’s handy for New Year activity resolutions. Have ordered a real FitBit which should arrive in the next couple of days. Have you really done Steps if there isn’t a thing on your wrist to say you have done those Steps? 🧐
😉 Am bereft if my watch battery dies and I've walked 'for nothing'
ChloeDecker · 03/01/2021 16:53

I’ve been out twice today-once with the 5 year old and again in the afternoon by myself . Just over 4,000 steps. Not too shabby to start the ‘term’ with.

I haven’t had a drink since Thursday night (which is hard as we have lots of left over Christmas booze!)

Hopefully now will few better waking up early tomorrow Grin

Monkeytennis97 · 03/01/2021 20:53

@Ulelia 17k well done! I did 13k yesterday but only 2k today. Will aim for 10k tomorrow in between remote teaching cpd stuff 😊

Yes when yr fit tracker does and it doesn't record 😭

A perfect example of how, when you start measuring something, we all entirely focus on the metric and not what it was disposed to be there for! (Remind you of anything in our education system?)

JanuaryChill · 03/01/2021 20:58

*dies

Iamnotthe1 · 03/01/2021 23:08

Diet and lifestyle changes start in the morning. My weight has been yoyoing for years so hope this is the time it actually sticks.

Exactly the blimmin' addictive nature of data lol!

I’m missing my little graph app already. But I will still walk the streets at lunchtime.

HarrietDVane · 04/01/2021 18:59

I did very well to dodge biscuits at school despite being ravenous enough to chew my own arm off, so am polishing my haloHalo this evening. Hope you've all had good days. I'm struggling a bit with anxiety today so have prescribed myself a bubble bath and an early night, in hope of sleeping better tonight than I did last night.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 04/01/2021 19:24

Now I know I will be at home for a while (scotland) I am worrying about the proximity of food (i usually work in the kitchen!) and lack of exercise.

MrsHamlet · 04/01/2021 19:26

I ate biscuits.
But I did walk to the station and back and into town for my flu jab

JanuaryChill · 04/01/2021 19:35

"We are NOT going to spend this lockdown sitting around eating biscuits are we, Teachers of Mumsnet?!"

Lots of time for lovely walks/runs/snowmen building with little ones/Pilates online/whatever.

(Trying to convince myself)

Saucery · 04/01/2021 19:38

I ate lunch in my car and it was so cold I walked round the local area for 40mins. Doubled back on a couple of roads and it’s quite a curtain-twitchy area so I’m probably on some Neighborhood Watch list Grin
New FitBit arrived but not in the mood to wrangle new tech this evening.

Bubble bath sounds fab. There’s some biology thing about as your body cools down it promotes relaxation and sleepiness.

HarrietDVane · 04/01/2021 22:39

Does it still count as being healthy when DH brings you a glass of wine in the bath? Apparently looked like I needed it. He wasn't wrong.

Saucery · 05/01/2021 19:45

My Fitbit buzzed and told me to get up and do 152 steps today. I was in a meeting, so that would have been a bit difficult. Not used to sentient wristwear that bosses me about Grin
It also informed me I’d had 2 episodes of cardio heart rate. Worked out that was when there was a stressful incident at work, rather than a healthy jog around the block Hmm

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/01/2021 19:54

Back to having soup and fruit for my lunch rather than eating whatever and whenever I fancied over the Christmas period.

14.1 as an official 'back to school' start weight.

Onwards and downwards, people!

Ulelia · 05/01/2021 20:28

@saucery sometimes my watches buzzes to tell me that 'I seem stressed right now'. Its always with y11 and I like to show them it whilst shrieking "look what you're doing to my heart!!!" they're a fun bunch but hard work.

I went for a lovely run this morning, did 11.5km, and so have hit 27000 steps today. But have also eaten an entire (small) pack of biscuits and had 2 bottles of wine with a friend I don't see very often so probably not good overall. However, January starts better next week, right?

Saucery · 05/01/2021 20:32

Grin at Yr11 sparking a cardio boost.
27,0000 is very impressive!

Love ‘onwards and downwards’ DrMM

I danced round the kitchen when I got home. Few star jumps and general flinging myself about. Will try and get a proper walk in tomorrow.

HarrietDVane · 05/01/2021 21:32

I have done no exercise beyond 'work steps' and had wine the minute I fell through the front door. Good choices were made food wise, however, so on balance I'm claiming that as a positive.

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2021 21:09

My sodastream arrived today. I'm so happy.

Saucery · 07/01/2021 10:01

@MrsHamlet

My sodastream arrived today. I'm so happy.
Envy

Tested Fitbit on a proper walk today, as it seemed to be logging more steps around work than my other one. It’s matching the 300 steps I intermittently counted perfectly, so maybe my old one was logging less than it should have.
