Hello all! Welcome to any school staff looking to improve their diet/exercise in 2021!

Last year I lost 5 stone and my BMI dropped from 42 to 28. My aim this year is to drop another 2 stone to get into the 'normal' weight category and to improve my stamina with jogging.

Welcome all!Smile

Right TOMORROW really is the start for me. I’ve been better this week and lost a bit but have fallen in crisps and chocolate tonight for no reason really.

Have printed out my sheet to tracks my blood sugars as that usually helps shock me into submission. If I could just get through 3/4 days I’m usually ok for a bit after that...

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 20:45

Hope it goes well Mrshp

HarrietDVane · 08/01/2021 00:30

I've been surprisingly good with food choices - long may that continue - but have still failed to do any form of exercise. It sounds lame but there's no time - 12-13 hour days in school leave precious little me-time!

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/01/2021 21:41

By tomorrow I clearly meant tomorrow and not today.... luckily tomorrow never comes?!?!? 🤣🤦‍♀️

echt · 08/01/2021 22:36

@MrsHamlet

My sodastream arrived today. I'm so happy.
Sodastream is fab. I have one and bought one for my DD for Christmas.

Did you get one of the cool black or red ones?

JanuaryChill · 08/01/2021 22:37

How are we all doing? I walked in murk at dusk today, easier than in snow at least.

HarrietDVane · 08/01/2021 23:56

Still no exercise (unless raging at the DfE counts?!) but generally good choices food wise. I'm hoping I've lost a couple of pounds. Will weigh in at the weekend.

I'm barely sleeping though. I don't quite know what to do about that as it's not sustainable. None of the usual things (warm bath, cutting caffeine, audiobooks, etc) are working for me at the moment.

echt · 09/01/2021 08:41

I'm not sure if this counts. I went into central Melbourne to an art exhibition, the Triennial. Bloody outstanding. And free. I haven't been to the CBD since March!! The wellbeing effect was stupendous. So uplifted to actually get out of dog-walking clothes for a day, I did it again, changing into a dress this afternoon. It seems such a small thing but while not in any way downcast, I felt so much better.

The upshot of this was aching feet and legs as I'm unused to walking so much on pavements/hard floors/at all, and all the stopping and starting. I had to have a nana nap when I got home. :o A timely reminder to get more, and more varied exercise.

Monkeytennis97 · 09/01/2021 08:53

God my exercise has been shit this week. Very anxious week as DH literally bricking it about doing live lessons but has gained In confidence in the last few days, I've been sitting in another room doing mine and then being around to help him if he has issues for his. Hopefully his confidence will get better in time. I enjoy live lessons (actually prefer them to being in the classroom lol) so I've been so much happier since Monday but I'm now too scared to go out for a walk as our area rates are massive, I've asked DH not to go out just for a couple of weeks too and he isn't happy about it. I'm more scared of the hospitals not coping than the virus really (but pretty scared of that too).

I have fallen off the wagon and my mental health has taken a tumble as we have all staff in school for 8 percent of kids. This is going to help transmission and is stressing me out as live with vulnerable parents.
I may have to go on the sick as I keep shaking.

I had a pizza last night too. So probably lost no weight this week.

Monkeytennis97 · 09/01/2021 09:17

@RigaBalsam ThanksThanksThanks

Thanks Monkey x

Saucery · 09/01/2021 10:26

Riga, go easy on yourself and do what you have to do for your mental health. After this is over we will need to be in a position to support all our pupils and we can’t do that if we’ve burnt out trying to do the impossible.

echt steps are steps, I’d say! Doesn’t matter where you do them!

Still hellish icy here, which is putting me off going for my usual morning walk. Surprised myself yesterday by accepting DH’s offer of a dusk walk. He always goes after work but I’m usually welded to the sofa by then. Stomping through muddy woods and being rewarded by seeing deer and an owl was lovely.

RigaBalsam · 09/01/2021 10:29

Thanks Saucery you are so right.

HarrietDVane · 09/01/2021 10:32

@RigaBalsam ThanksThanksThanks

It's been a hell of a week here - all staff in, 50% children in and juggling face to face teaching with recording lessons for those at home, you know the drill - the days are longer than ever Sad

Hopped on the scales this morning and I'm 4lb down though, despite no exercise, so I'll take that. Grin

Saucery · 09/01/2021 10:44

Well done, Harriet ! I haven't put any on is the best I can say, but not adjusted food intake so can't complain (although I did, loudly to the treacherous scales Grin ).

Monkeytennis97 · 09/01/2021 12:19

@HarrietDVane 4lb that is amazing!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I really need to join in. Trouble is on top of pandemic school my house is being renovated so is a building site. Not restful. I finish my maternity cover next month (7th I think) so am going to take a month or two to sort the house and focus on me a bit more. If schools are still shut my supply agency will furlough me so I’ll still have an income, plus I took my pension early as the actual rail reduction seemed worth it to not have to work full time any more. However I’ve worked two full time supply contracts since I ‘retired’ so it looks like retiring is another thing I’m crap at...
Anyway I have about 6 stone to lose. No scales or anywhere to put any (house renovation again...) so it’ll have to be by measurements to start with.
I signed up to worldwalking.org and am going to log my walking on there - going to virtually walk London to Paris first in protest at Brexit.

cardibach · 09/01/2021 12:37

Actuarial reduction*

Monkeytennis97 · 09/01/2021 13:10

@cardibach welcome!!😊

Monkeytennis97 · 09/01/2021 13:11

So I've done a sum total of 600 steps today, utterly rubbish. Ok to be accountable I'm aiming for 15k tomorrow and 7k today. Right best get moving!

Saucery · 09/01/2021 13:53

Hi cardibach, worldwalking looks good, thanks for that!

HarrietDVane · 09/01/2021 14:05

Welcome @cardibach

Thanks everyone. It was quite painless food-wise this week, I think because it's just been so awful at work that there hasn't been time to think - food has been mostly fuel rather than comfort, but I know how quickly I turn to chocolate for solace, so I'm not kidding myself that it will always be straightforward. Partly it will have been that big, 'first week' loss too.

I will try to get out for a walk with DH later to clear my head. I've barely seen daylight at all this week.

JanuaryChill · 09/01/2021 14:36

It's hard when there's little daylight to get out in, isn't it?

Mistressiggi · 09/01/2021 14:46

I had a 600 step day last week, realised I'd been sat at my laptop for over 12 hours so no bloody wonder. I need to make a walk be a regular thing.
Does anyone else do ok with food and then on the day the groceries come, fuck it all up? Blush
