Hello all! Welcome to any school staff looking to improve their diet/exercise in 2021!

Last year I lost 5 stone and my BMI dropped from 42 to 28. My aim this year is to drop another 2 stone to get into the 'normal' weight category and to improve my stamina with jogging.

Welcome all!Smile

Loose!!!

Tailrunner · 16/02/2021 16:04

So I braved the scales this morning and it was as bad as I thought but at least now I know. I've started fast800 again since it worked for me before - it helped that DP more or less followed it too. I've been for a lovely long walk and had a healthy lunch but now I'm hiding upstairs while DP makes pancakes with DDs Blush.

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot I want to go with no sugar and no snacks after dinner (except fruit).

Does ketchup count as sugar? Even the 50% less sugar one?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/02/2021 16:15

@MrsHerculePoirot

I decided that ketchup, BBQ sauce and sweet chutneys (mango for eg) counted as sugar. Their first or second ingredient is sugar! I know this from last time when I basically started choosing foods based on which sweet condiment I could have with it. I'm not going to be massively precious about it, but I haven't missed them, so not too worried. I end up making lots of salsas.

I also notice that to account for the lack of chocolate, cakes and biscuits in my diet, I do sort of crave other fats and carbs. Hence why I can't do low carb forever, it's just not sustainable. I already know I don't have the willpower to do that sort of restriction for life, so having the quarter plate carbs works for me. Nuts, avo etc are fine as the fats.

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/02/2021 10:02

Ok on it. I’m starting no sugar today and no snacking in the evenings. I’m going to track my calories/carbs using mfp (just to give me an idea of what I’m doing also). ... I CAN do this...

TheHoneyBadger · 18/02/2021 11:07

Good luck mrshp.

Weighed in today and I have lost 6lbs in 3 weeks. Long way to go but it's a good start.

Tailrunner · 18/02/2021 11:15

That's great HoneyBadger.

I am on day 3 of fast800 and it's going okay so far but today will be a real test. I've promised myself that I will only spend one day doing school work over half term and today is that day. Lots of BTEC assignments and tests to mark so I'm going to be very bored which is when I reach for the snacks.

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/02/2021 12:00

Well done @TheHoneyBadger!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/02/2021 12:03

I CAN do this

Yes, you can. I made myself a little grid which is on a kitchen cupboard door - I'm ticking the days off. By doing 100 there is an end point, and it seems achievable.

My hint would be to invest in some 'sweet' fruit - pineapple, easy peel clementines/mandarins, cherries - then if you eat them in front of the telly at 10pm it's 'OK'. Low cals too if you're doing MFP.

I can't count cals anymore, leads to seriously disordered/obsessive eating/planning.

Monkeytennis97 · 18/02/2021 12:38

@TheHoneyBadger wow well done you, that's amazing! I've gone the other way. Need to get motivated again.

Thanks @RuleWithAWoodenFoot. Have discovered an amazing little fruit and veg stall round the corner so going to walk there twice a week and get fresh lovely stuff! I got some lychees the other day which were amazing!

HarrietDVane · 20/02/2021 11:10

Well, I've put on 3lb. I'm not exactly over the moon but it's not unexpected. I've had too many slip-ups this week, and not enough walking.

Hope you've all had a better week than me!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/02/2021 11:14

I'm not really doing no sugar for weight loss, but have decided I'm going to weight myself at the end of every row. Just to see. I feel loads better for it, and haven't missed chocolate at all.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/02/2021 11:23

Love it! I know it makes me feel better. I know low carb proper suits me but can’t get into it. I should eat no sugar anyway tbh because of my diabetes but am just spiralling into being awful.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/02/2021 17:59

Been out and ended up walking 9km with the kids today - was ace and just what was needed! Eaten shit though...

echt · 22/02/2021 07:29

Tomorrow I'm off to see my first film since the Melbourne Lockdown From Hell in July 2020. In fact now I think of it, the news broke the same day I was last at the cinema with DD. Hmm Is it something we did, I wonder? Anyway we're having lunch and going to see"Minari", a much-praised US film, and I will do bugger all schoolwork.

What I find faintly ridiculous is how lockdowns have made me think small, more reluctant to go out, even when it's OK.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/03/2021 20:43

40 days of no sugar for me as of tomorrow. I've lost 4kg. 1kg every 10 days feels quite sustainable.

Sureitwillbegrand · 14/03/2021 21:00

That's really good and sustainable @RuleWithAWoodenFoot.
I am glad to be back at school just for my eating habits! have made my lunches for the week been having my greens and fish oil every morning, but still eating chocolate. Baby steps I think! I have noticed I am drinking more water as well. I know what I have to do but motivation is low at the minute so joining you all here to stay motivated.

HarrietDVane · 14/03/2021 22:12

Wow! That's amazing Rule! Has it just been sugar you've cut out or have you reduced carbs in general? Smile

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/03/2021 22:49

I'm eating 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Each meal is a portion that fits into my cupped hands, half veg or fruit, quarter carb, quarter protein. Snacks are fruit in the morning, apple/celery/carrot with cheese/hummous/peanut butter in the afternoon. It's enough food and I'm not hungry. I did two days of the same minus the carbs as a sort of 5:2 this last week just to see what happened. Will do another 3 of those weeks to see how it goes.

Eating a shit ton of fruit, toast, rice, potatoes, chips, crackers etc, so def not low carb.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/05/2021 09:07

So, almost 2 months after the last post! I've lots another 3.5kg, which isn't quite a kg every 10 days, but will do!

7.5kg since mid Jan. Got 10 days left of my 'no sugar' 100 days, but I'm going to carry on I think. Don't miss it. From a 'wellbeing' perspective, I feel a LOT better off the chocolate and cake.

It's going really slowly considering I've got another 20kg to lose at least, but glad I'm not just piling it on, which has been going on for the last couple of years. Still as heavy now as I was at 9 months pregnant Shock Going to see if I can get rid of the next 5kg by the summer holidays.
