Hello all! Welcome to any school staff looking to improve their diet/exercise in 2021!

Last year I lost 5 stone and my BMI dropped from 42 to 28. My aim this year is to drop another 2 stone to get into the 'normal' weight category and to improve my stamina with jogging.

Welcome all!Smile

I wouldn't have contemplated running ever - and am still pretty unseen - but discovered OneFitMama pelvic floor and core online course in the summer. Game changer. If you're interested, search for the Peterborough OneFit course on Fb. Shani is the most lovely, wonderful and supportive teacher, and as it's all online I guess it doesn't matter where on earth you're doing it from!

OneFit specialises in supporting mainly newer mums in physical and mental health and I'd recommend them to everyone

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 12:57

*unkeen but unseen would help as well

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 12:57

I was last a new mum 13.5 years ago but it still helped me!

Whatsthatbrightlight · 01/01/2021 13:00

Thanks for this. I did the couch to 5k over the summer but haven’t ventured out for months. I’m now frightened to step on the scales!

Saucery · 01/01/2021 13:08

Back in March I was frightened to step on the scales, so I didn’t. 7 weeks of pushing myself to a minimum of 30 miles a week later I dared to step on them. Was still a bit shocked but at least I felt I was on my way to where I need to be.
Depends on whether you need a BMI / TDEE from the start though, I realise.

Things that worked in the past for me were:
5k runs 3 times a week
Trampoline in the house (small exercise one)
Step.
Resistance step machine

Now I’d rather be out in the fresh air so it’s walking and hiking. Not too fussed about diet tbh, because I don’t really drink alcohol regularly any more and cake etc are a weekend thing. Try to keep to 1600 cals a day but not strict about it.

CallmeAngelina · 01/01/2021 13:10

Trampoline! Shock
My pelvic floor wouldn't stand that! Blush

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 13:13

Ange may I direct you to my OneFitMama post? Haven't had the opportunity to try trampolining yet but it certainly helped when I had The Cough that everyone had in Sept!

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 01/01/2021 13:14

Thanks for starting this thread @Monkeytennis97, I am 3 years post wedding, nearly 2 years post baby and desperately want to get back to a sensible healthy pattern. I wish I could run, but I have major hip issues so can't do high impact. I think my plan is lots of swimming, walking, and I might venture into the gym if I feel very brave. I've got a birthday coming up though, so don't feel up to tackling the eating until after that. Still, one thing at a time, hey?

CallmeAngelina · 01/01/2021 13:16

OneFitMama? I will check it out...

Ah, but in the privacy of your own home who cares? Grin

I don’t own any kind of sportswear at all, except some very matronly swimming costumes which contain A LOT of scaffolding. I love swimming - I’m not fast but I will happily plod along in the slow lane. Covid has put me right off going in the pool and the one I normally visit (in the next town - I don’t want to be spotted by school children!) is threatened with closure. I don’t know what I will do if they close it. I’m still paying my subscription even though I don’t currently use it, in the hope that it will help keep it going.

I’m 16st 1lb, so it’s bad, but not as bad as I feared. No idea what my BMI is. High 30s, probably.

SaltyAF · 01/01/2021 13:20

@MrsHerculePoirot

I lost in first lockdown and saw a 12 (just) on the scales but levelled out around 13st3. Today I was 14st2 😱😱😱😱 nearly all of which has been December so I reckon I can get it off again!
I'm the same Mrs HP (and 5'4" 😳).

Today I'm polishing off wine and having a roast dinner. Tomorrow I'm with you.

Loshad · 01/01/2021 13:22

Signing in, have done coach to 5 k this summer. Not up to 5k yet but plodding round for 40 mins twice a week on my old knackered knee. Need to lose a substantial amount of weight 😳

HarrietDVane · 01/01/2021 13:33

I’m still making my traditional New Year’s Day enormous roast dinner. If I sidestep the roasties and the pud, and up my serving of green veg, I’m going to call it a start. It’s not perfect but until I get my head round what I’m meant to be doing, it will have to do.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 13:40

Peterborough OneFitMama! You'll look at Shani and think "How can that wafer-thin Y9-lookalike help me?" .... but she can! She's very well informed, and sensitive.

phlebasconsidered · 01/01/2021 13:55

I need to lose a stone and a half. This is hard as I am thyroidless so to do it I have to do 5:2 and have a calorie deficit of at least 800. I also failed in my running. I could run 5k in 38 mins in June but I kind of gave up in September. Haven't done anything since. I need to be at at low bmi rather than top end of ok to keep my cholesterol down. Gp told me off in June.

Mistressiggi · 01/01/2021 13:59

I sed to run but too many things were starting to hurt. I miss it. They sounds very low key but I really enjoy Lesley Sansone's Walk At Home workouts - loads on youtube. About 15-30 minutes long and no equipment needed. Definitely raises my heart rate too and she is very cheery but a bit older which I like Smile

NeurotreeWenceslas · 01/01/2021 14:05

Yes, I'd love this thread!

I've spent the year getting thyroid meds in check and just started to feel better in the last month or so, with the odd crash.

I'm trying to up my little occasional run route to 5 k. It's currently 3k, I found a way to make it 4 today. But strength stuff is better for me and I need the het back into that.

And immediate ate a load of crisps, Stilton and crackers on my return! I'm avoiding the scales!

Was just eyeing the Asana rebel stuff on IG actually.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 01/01/2021 14:06

I'll add that when I run I allow myself to walk when I feel like it!

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 14:07

Mistress am liking the sound of that!

Saucery · 01/01/2021 14:09

I looked at those walking videos when I was panicking about having to self-isolate, Mistress. They look good, really put my mind at rest if it were to happen.

Mistressiggi · 01/01/2021 14:10

It's good! Someone on mumsnet recommended it. Nothing like the 30 day shred but you're a lot less likely to give up! As soon as I can clear children out of the sitting room this morning I'm doing one.

Saucery · 01/01/2021 14:10

Anyone here do wild swimming? It’s something I’d like to get into next year if at all possible. Am allergic to latex so a wetsuit is out, so I’d have to do it without.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 01/01/2021 14:12

I do have MUTU from post baby; I'm still only less than half way through and it's getting challenging! I really rate it though even for non post baby. It's aerobics and Pilates and good for pelvic stuff obviously.

One of the warm ups is literally getting up and down from the floor for a minute in loads of different ways; I find it can be quite a good work out!

(I bought it when it was half price though)

NeurotreeWenceslas · 01/01/2021 14:14

Yes!

I want to do that more! I have a few friends / colleagues who do now, in the sea. Mostly no suit Shock I can do no suit up till about sept. I'm really missing swimming.

I need some gloves though and they're all sold out!

(I sound really active but I'm not...!)
