Hello all! Welcome to any school staff looking to improve their diet/exercise in 2021!

Last year I lost 5 stone and my BMI dropped from 42 to 28. My aim this year is to drop another 2 stone to get into the 'normal' weight category and to improve my stamina with jogging.

Welcome all!Smile

@JanuaryChill I think so - I used ground almonds and it seemed to work!

Ulelia · 11/01/2021 16:21

So I had a week on holiday with lots of exercise but also eating and drinking whatever I wanted. Including wine and cheese for tea every night Shock
Am pleased therefore to have a lost a little:
Jan 1st weight: 14St 3.5lb
Jan 11th weight: 14St 2.4lb

This week I'll be concentrating on diet (mostly by IF) because I'm isolating so no exercise allowed outside Sad
Going to try and get 5000 steps a day and a video (probably Jillian Michael's) every day as well to proven total sofa slobbery...

QUESTION.. teachers being tested b4 their day at school but if a member of staff tested positive that would come in on public transport how would they get home. Too far to walk. This has caused huge problems at my school.

MrsHamlet · 11/01/2021 18:54

I'd have to go home by train too.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/01/2021 19:27

I don't get my weekly Covid test til after the kids.

Seems a little short sighted when I could be in and done by 8am and know if I'm a risk to others but 🤷‍♀️

Justme123123 · 11/01/2021 19:53

Oh really thats interesting we have ours from 830 then kids from 1030

HarrietDVane · 13/01/2021 21:19

Hello all - a mixed bag of food choices from me this week. Hopefully more good than bad but time will tell.

My shoulders and neck are killing me, I think from spending more time welded to a desk. Nothing seems to be helping - does anyone have any miracle cures (apart from immediate retirement) please?

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/01/2021 22:09

My tomorrow still hasn’t arrived. I’m hoping I actual get my act together tomorrow 🤦‍♀️

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/01/2021 22:11

@HarrietDVane can you adjust position so you are sitting correctly eg foot rest or write rest or laptop on some books so right level etc? Get up and walk round the room or stretch once an hour? Gin?

HarrietDVane · 13/01/2021 22:22

@MrsHerculePoirot thanks for the suggestion!

It's my classroom desk/PC which is the bad combo. I think the trouble may stem from the fact that I'm a shortarse and the desk was designed for a giant so I'm kind of reaching up and over to manipulate the mouse. I might take a cushion in tomorrow to see if that helps. I'm not used to sitting down for hours on end!

HarrietDVane · 16/01/2021 12:27

Got on the scales this morning - 3lb off! Really pleased with that Grin

Hope all is well with everyone.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/01/2021 13:08

Well done @HarrietDVane I had gone back up to 14st 5 and am back to 13st11 over last two weeks. I haven’t been amazing but better and finally got out die walks yesterday and today... am reading my bloods and trying not to snack on evening by having peppermint tea so will keep trying!

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/01/2021 13:10

I suspect my heaviest though I weighed at night after stuffing my face and then today weighed first thing having fasted for blood tests 🤣

HarrietDVane · 16/01/2021 14:58

@MrsHerculePoirot Well done! That's a great loss!

I am coping quite well with following a low carb diet - it's been surprisingly easy so far and I do feel better for it. I haven't gone as low as you seem to need for keto though.

HarrietDVane · 23/01/2021 15:37

Hello all - hope all is well with everyone.

Another 2lb down today, which makes 9lb altogether I think. No noticeable difference physically, but I do feel better in myself, despite everything that's being thrown at me at school.

Monkeytennis97 · 24/01/2021 06:50

Wow @HarrietDVane that's brilliant. I've gone the opposite way and gone up 2lb. My resurgent anxiety hasn't helped and motivation has dropped off but I'm going to set myself a goal today of minimum 10k steps and maximum 1700 cals. Here we go!Smile

Currently 12 stone 9lbs.

Urgh stood on scales -was 12 stone 9 yesterday. Not today. 12 stone 10lb. Urgh.

@HarrietDVane that’s amazing! Last weekend I put all that weight back on. Anyway have done three days of not eating crap so hopefully ok now to keep going. Down to 13st10 so finally in right direction hopefully.

@Monkeytennis97 you can do it! I’m struggling with steps as sitting down all day working but have used mfp for calories and kept below 1490 which is what it sets me.

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 24/01/2021 14:32

4.5 lbs off in a week, nice to have something positive after counting calories and steps. Now if it was increasing calories and fewer steps I needed... 😂
I'm finding it really difficult to go out and walk, I hate the rain and the weather is somewhat incontinent ☔ So I tried a dance workout on YouTube but then trod on duplo and swore a lot. I used to have an exercise bike, but I hated it with a passion. What I really want is a cross trainer, but they're so pricey

HarrietDVane · 24/01/2021 15:27

Well done @Stepawayfromtheminirolls! 4.5lb off is fantastic! Commiserations @Monkeytennis97 - it's so tough isn't it?

I am struggling with exercise. I have an ancient exercise bike which I used a lot in lockdown 1, but which has been gathering dust ever since. I found listening to audiobooks made it more tolerable to use. I'm just lacking time, energy and motivation at the moment. I am finding it really hard to keep on top of everything work-wise and at home, so there's not much time left for me. I wish we were in on a rota!

HarrietDVane · 24/01/2021 15:28

@MrsHerculePoirot Oops - missed responding to you! I am very good at gaining weight back again overnight so I can identify with your week! Hopefully it'll come off again just as quickly.

Monkeytennis97 · 24/01/2021 18:18

Well I started well but failed by 4pm however I did do some treadmill and have done around 7k so far which is about 5k more than I've been averaging this week. I think I'm going to go for it from Feb 1st. I've never been good in January. Too miserable. February feels like the beginning of Spring for meSmile Well done to everyone who is going for it. Will try and be good tomorrow and will go for a walk (haven't left the house since Christmas).

OP posts:
HarrietDVane · 24/01/2021 20:03

Well done @Monkeytennis97 - 7km is further than I've walked all week (probably put together Blush)

I am hoping to get a stone off by half term. It is coming off quite steadily at the moment but that is probably because I have a lot to lose. I'd need to lose 6st to get into the healthy range which is a bit daunting.

I agree about January - it's cold and dark and not really a good time to start, but I know if I wait until February I will just keep putting it off and never start.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 24/01/2021 21:09

What can I do about anger?

Diet is fine, 8-10k steps a day (boring), 3 or 4 resistance things a week, not drinking, relationship fine, work a pain (dreams), but otherwise fine, trying headspace.

Am furious all the time. Absolute bubbling rage. Could just scream and punch things.
