So continuing on from our boycott/flowers we need to continue to defend our profession. This is teacher/school staff chat - if you do not fall into that category please start you own thread elsewhere.

I got sucked in. What a plonker I am Grin

Hope everyone's had a good weekend Brew Cake

echt · 03/05/2020 22:03

I've just flowered that hateful thread about teacher shortages on AIBU.

TubereuseNordlys · 03/05/2020 22:04

Thank you echt

Secondary is going to have to run like primary with a single cohort of pupils in the same room all day. Makes sense to avoid transition times but we would run around like idiots teaching in different corners of the school. Doesn’t look good for anything non core based, or even practical Science. I pity the poor buggers who have to sort KS4 into option block cohorts. Staggered lunch breaks could make for some strange shaped days, too. Overall, I can foresee a very static school day for teenagers and a frenetic one for those secondary teachers who are usually ‘spoiled’ with a single class room. Most important purchase before school opens: a trolley thing to cart everything around in.

likeafishneedsabike · 03/05/2020 22:42

Sixth form? Not a clue how that would work without moving about the school.

EducatingArti · 03/05/2020 22:43

I flowered it too!

Piggywaspushed · 03/05/2020 22:44

Well, that won't work in my enormous split site school...

WhyNotMe40 · 03/05/2020 22:44

I got sucked in, but I think I've fought our corner reasonably well.
Bed now. Got my own kids to home educate, and students to distance teach, and a feral preschooler to potty train....

Asuitablecat · 03/05/2020 22:58

I move a lot anyway. Don't know how kids Will cope in one room. Pshe straight after form can be...challenging towards the end. They want to get up and move. And of course, toilet breaks for those who donate have teacher size bladders.

Piggywaspushed · 03/05/2020 22:59

They must be getting rid of form time , surely? That seems an obvious thing to go. And assemblies.

Asuitablecat · 03/05/2020 23:12

My job would be so.much better without form.time. was 6th form form tutor for years, which was lovely, and have had very hard ks4form in my new school. It's frightening how 20 years counts for NOTHING when you move. I comfort myself by telling myself it'd be worse if i was an.nqt.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2020 07:06

What are the unions saying? I'm hoping they see the same issues.

DreamingofBrie · 04/05/2020 07:30

Checking in with Brew. I loaded all of this week's lessons last night (apart from Year 13... They go on official study leave after Wednesday and they've been so good at handing work in since lock down... I'm torn!), sent a couple of emails about kids I'm worried about.

Got an unpaid day today so going to try and clean the house. And catch up on marking, although mostly on top of that.

I know we'll return when we're told to, but I'm a bit anxious at the thought of having to classroom teach and set online work at the same time. I hope it's one or the other.

Hope everyone has a good day Flowers .

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2020 07:41

☕️ and it's never too early for Cake for all.

Interesting discussion on R4 of a parent of an SEN pupil who feels the government are ignoring them as these pupils can't SD. How complex it it if you're in an SEN school.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2020 07:41

Poor mother, her child sounds extremely challenging.

RigaBalsam · 04/05/2020 07:43

Morning all. Set my work last night too. Off to plan some schemes for the day.

Wonder how many articles/threads today. Confused

Asuitablecat · 04/05/2020 07:50

Eagerly awaiting today's gcse grade wranglingGrin

MigGril · 04/05/2020 07:59

Hi guys can I join you, also getting fedup of all the teacher bashing going on and the constant press questions of when we are going back to school. I'm support staff, science technician, spend a lot of time helping our lovely teachers. Don't now what science is going to look like when we go back at all.

GravityFalls · 04/05/2020 08:02

One thing I’ve discovered in lockdown is how to schedule emails in Outlook, so I write mine the day before and set them to send at 8.30, and my assignments to appear on Teams at 9. That gives me time to go for a run/do Joe Wicks before I have to sit down at the laptop (I do check it for urgent things before I go!) and it makes all the difference to my day. We’re not expected to stick to our usual timetable though as so many staff have children at home, it’s fine for us to shift hours to the evening. But I prefer to keep to a school day and I’ve timetabled the DC’s day too just to keep it simple. Spent some time last night printing out all their White Rose maths sheets - I’ve had to spend £££ on a printer and ink - wonder if I can get a bailout loan for homeschooling costs?

GravityFalls · 04/05/2020 08:04

And I had my second stress dream about going to back to work - this time I had year 9 (who I don’t even teach) and it was a predictable nightmare as someone from the pastoral team came to tell me “Connor needs to be 9m away from everyone” 😂 I don’t even teach a Connor but I’m sure he does...

Thank you!

Morning everyone and another Monday. Was up till 10:30pm last night doing the feedback for my Year 12 before this morning's lesson. I too have been working late whilst DC in bed to schedule work/communication for some classes the next day.

Piggywaspushed · 04/05/2020 09:06

The delightful Times having another teacher bash on its front page today, this time about not setting work to year 13s FFS.

Appuskidu · 04/05/2020 09:31

Don’t know why I clicked on it, but the Fail are going with a ‘leaked Whitehall source’ saying more key workers will be told to send their children in next week as not enough are taking those places. Then it says y6 back, 1st June followed by the rest of primary later that week!

LolaSmiles · 04/05/2020 09:37

The government seem to have a real problem with leaks at the moment.

Who'd have thought that parents might want to keep their children safe and avoid needless mixing of households?

On the news this morning there's talk of canteens being closed when workplaces go back, but then in the papers people are pushing for schools to go back. Where are the children meant to eat?
The news also said workplaces should stagger start/end time to reduce demand on public transport. How are children meant to get to and from school on public bus services and school busses that are normally full?

It feels like children are about to be subjected to a lower level of care and protection than adults.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 04/05/2020 09:37

Papers are scrabbling for stories. All the 'celebs' are not up to their usual stupid antics and so are not providing the necessary newspaper filler fodder.

Anyway - a bit more smarter working this week for a couple of groups in that they will listen to powerpoint with voice over then watch a youtube clip then take an extended quiz which is marked using Teams Smile otherwise I am growing with on line marking
