The royal family

A bit of compassion for a King with cancer wouldn’t go amiss.

Yes, of course he is head of state but he is also a human being with cancer.

In the past few weeks alone he has faced the shock return of a treacherous son and an exploitative daughter in law set on destabilising the monarchy which is the King’s life works, and destroying any peace within the family.
When trying to deal with the situation he is damned if he says something to try to control them and damned if he doesn’t.

Now he has a vengeful ex brother in law accusing him (with zero evidence) of disgraceful comments and conduct at the time of the highly traumatic death of his late wife and also repeating scurrilous slander made by said ex wife (who was well known for her own vengeful nature) implying he is a closeted bisexual.

I am not of the #bekind brigade but as someone who has cancer myself I really would ask that a glimmer of humanity is shown to him.

Stress really does impact cancer. I would not be at all surprised if these dreadful goings on damage the Kings health very seriously.

I wonder if H&M or CS consider this at all or if they will feel any guilt should the King become more unwell?

Not something I could live had I treated a family member so badly.

Spencer has written this in the full knowledge that the king has little recourse. Most of the content hitting the headlines is his opinion and let's be honest, he's not coming across as impartial.

It's "fifteen" minutes of fame

Don’t you recognise deliberate irony, when you see it?

I never understood pedantry. We use words to convey a message; so long as people get the message, how does pedantry improve the meaning, being conveyed?

Besides which, having spent over 30 years, mixing with people with dyslexia, word finding difficulties, syntactical language disorders, difficulties with top down or bottom up processing of language, etc, I never criticise people’s spelling, grammar, etc online - because nobody ever knows, if they are mocking people’s disabilities?

In the end the family are just like the rest of us.. imperfect and dysfunctional, trying to do a job, trying to raise children.
One of the issues I have with the royals is people try to categorise them.. bad or good .. most people are not wholly bad or good (Andrew MW excluded!)
I think the King has done fantastic things .. he was way ahead in environmental concerns , and was openly laughed about, his speech to the American Congress was wonderful.. nuanced, thoughtful, humorous, he coped well with his brother and made it clear that his thoughts where with the women affected. He has been very clear with his son when he and his wife returned from US. I like him.

His speech was great. But let’s not pretend he wrote it.

He only took action against Andrew because of mounting public pressure. And he’s been petty and vindictive with Harry.

I think he’s simply an arse who’s come from a long line of arses.

I would have more compassion for Charles if he hadn’t, independently of the Palace, during the war of the Wales’s, spent a lot of money hiring a PR guru who, in the process of rehabilitating Camilla, embarked on a nasty strategic campaign to characterise her as a mad whore.

Patrick Jephson, who worked with Diana for over seven years as her private secretary and travelled with her to five continents, in challenging circumstances, testified that Diana was robust and down to earth throughout, as well as being quite an exacting boss, and said that;

“It’s not the palace…but advisors to Prince Charles, who over many years have crafted a systematic, sustained and expensive campaign to rehabilitate Camilla’s reputation and make her suitable to be the next Queen,” he said.

Jephson want on to say,

“This is linked, of course, to a pretty vile campaign to publicise a bogus psychiatric diagnosis that Princess Diana had a personality disorder.”

“This may have cost the Prince a lot of money, paying for PR spin doctors”

“I think it also raises ethical question marks over the methods they (Prince Charles’ PR representatives) have used.”

If this is true then I have very little compassion for King Charles I’m afraid.

There’s been a lot of explanation about how a speech such as the American Congress one came to be written. It involve many people and was composed over the course of several months. No 10, No 11, royal aides, diplomats and the king were all involved. No one person wrote it.

Couldn’t give a f*ck. Nasty horrible man getting what he deserves. (Not the cancer, just the stuff coming out the woodwork).

Perhaps he’s as fed up as a lot of people are that the late Queen is held up as some paragon of virtue and so is Charles.

The Queen paid millions to silence Andrew’s victim - you’d not do that if you thought he was innocent.

Charles cheated on Diana the entire time they were married and told her he didn’t love her.

The whole Royal Family behaved appallingly when Diana died and it took then Prime Minister Tony Blair intervening to get them to behave more appropriately. Comments they made at the time were reported and none made them seem caring at all.

How do you know that Prince Charles cheated on Diana the entire time they were married? Where precisely has that information come from? On the TV interview PC said that he was unfaithful to his wife 'when the marriage had broken down irretrievably'. Did you follow him around everywhere from the day he married until he and Diana separated formally? Did you get all of your information, which is only your opinion, from The Crown?

I guess you can chat to others about it when you give up your chrismtas day to see them walk to church and think they are your friends.

You don't have to 'give up' your Christmas Day. It's part of Christmas Day to take the dogs for their usual Sandringham walk, just as you do on Sundays. You can take a flask of soup and a turkey bap and get home in time for the Monarch's Speech at 3 p.m.

Ehh?? Can you link me to the BBC REPORT of the president of USA lie.

compared to the coverage of this

Because everyone knows it's a lie and he's a liar. I saw coverage where at the time he said he was glad Trump Towers was the tallest building in NY. It's a non story that a liar lied about something that is clearly proven to be a lie. Trump has done far worse than that.

I don't "love the royals" at all.

I like some better than others (from what we can know) and I do believe a constitutional monarchy is better than a republic because it gives us more balance to the instability of politics.

I also value the historical significance but at the same time I see the absurdity of inheritance.

My plea for compassion would be the same if our PM was suffering from cancer
and going through the abuse and turmoil the King is going through.

I judge H&M based on their own words and actions which we have seen for ourselves in their numerous "interviews", their tv series and book and I see plenty of treachery and exploitation and my self respect is fine thanks.

I can live with my life choices as someone who tries to do the right thing by people suffering from cancer (or indeed other life threatening illness) and I speak both from personal experience with family members and from professional experience as a retired nurse.

For all I dislike Harry for his behaviour I do genuinely fear for him when his father eventually dies because if he is ever able to admit responsibility for the way he has treated him it will be a very large cross to bear indeed and one which would break many people.

For someone who claims to not love the royals, you sure seem to have invested a lot of your personal time into digesting whatever media you can about them! Doesn’t entirely sound like it’s unbiased media either…

@Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit , I appreciate why you started this thread and do agree that compassion would be nice , however I’m not going to read beyond your opening post because I already know what comments it will elicit, usually…….he is rich and gets higher treatment…..etc…..

@Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit I am sorry to hear that you have cancer. I agree that stress can only make having cancer more challenging. I can quite see why you feel for KC3 in the circumstances. I had a cancer scare during covid. I've lost 3 people to cancer in the last 4 years - my last bio-parent, my husband, & now my adoptive mother. ALL had pretty patchy NHS care. KC3 will have the very best treatment & care that most of us could never even dream of.

I feel KC3 has had a difficult path in life (being the heir to the throne is not a choice, although he could have stepped away I guess). However, over the years he has seemed to me to be cold, petulant, self absorbed, spoiled and selfish.
I can imagine Charles Spencer's remarks have a least a grain of truth in them.

Oh I don't worry.

I knew full well some people are so set in their negative opinions about KC that his cancer means nothing to them so I would get a lot of flack for suggesting any degree of compassion.

I just felt it important to say what I have and that's done now.

I'm always confused by why people are so offended that the Royal Family have messy lives. They aren't elected. They don't hold a campaign promising certain behaviour and principles then go back on them. They are royalty by birth, nothing more. They're just people.

I'd hate to be royalty. I think Charles is making a good stab at being King. It must be so hard to follow Queen Elizabeth, who apart from the Diana Debacle navigated many, many situations that other people created. She always managed to smooth over Phillip's foot in mouth moments.

I'm sure people do have compassion for him with regards to having cancer. However he has consistantly shown himself to be a rude, arrogant, short-tempered man with little empathy for others. He has made poor decision after poor decision. Having cancer doesn't exempt anyone from the consequences of their actions. He also covered up for his disgraceful brother and is still doing so. He took the minimum action only due to facing the anger of the British public.

Don't worry too much about his cancer treatment. He is recieving the best money can buy whilst others die in hospital corridors.
You've given your opinion. This is mine. I won't enter into a debate as we are worlds apart. Done.

Edited

I agree. Having cancer now doesn’t excuse all his bad behaviour in the past and it doesn’t mean it can not be discussed now. That is emotional manipulation and won’t cut it I’m afraid. It’s like when people use being elderly to excuse what they’ve done in the past. Nope. If you’re an arsehole, you’ll get called out for it no matter what your health status is.

Well I am one of the people with cancer who has NHS treatment and I can feel compassion for him.

Good for you. I'm happy you're receiving proper treatment at the NHS. I'd be happier if the king was having the same treatment as you.
But in the end, I don't think the king is too bothered about my opinion of him.

bingobangs · 19/09/2026 18:14

I wonder how bad Andrew feels?!

bingobangs · 19/09/2026 18:22

marlboro · 18/09/2026 22:56

My understanding is this:

charles never loved Diana, married her when she was basically still a kid, and was coercive and shit.

William had an affair, the royal family covered it up by vilifying Harry and Megan.

megan and Harry had to move their kids from school because a fellow mum doxxed them.

charles Spencer was barely talking to Diana when she died.

this is a fucked up family. I don’t understand why we’re all vehemently taking sides when they’re all shit to each other

Indeed!

I think that is a little too simplistic.

No one publicly criticises the monarch unless they have a pretty sound and provable basis on which to do so.

At this point we have two journalists confirming that CS repeated statements to them about KC, at the time of Diana’s funeral, which aligned with what he is saying today.

And no established publisher would risk allowing accusations against the King to be published without their legal team going over the manuscript with a fine tooth comb.

Given what has been allowed to stay; I would be very interested to know what the legal team has taken out tbh!

And sorry but we know from Lownie that the Palace very much do have access to plenty of methods of recourse in the form of well resourced advisors, legal letters, NDAs, leaning on ex staff and PPOs and reminding them of their pension agreements if they dare to speak up, not to mention encouraging mutually beneficial relationships with tame journalists, some of whom fancy a gong!
And they use them regularly as has been discovered in relation to the AMW debacle.

paulinecnd · 20/09/2026 17:05

Charles Spencer is very well respected locally. I believe he is the one who is telling the truth.
