The royal family

A bit of compassion for a King with cancer wouldn’t go amiss.

Yes, of course he is head of state but he is also a human being with cancer.

In the past few weeks alone he has faced the shock return of a treacherous son and an exploitative daughter in law set on destabilising the monarchy which is the King’s life works, and destroying any peace within the family.
When trying to deal with the situation he is damned if he says something to try to control them and damned if he doesn’t.

Now he has a vengeful ex brother in law accusing him (with zero evidence) of disgraceful comments and conduct at the time of the highly traumatic death of his late wife and also repeating scurrilous slander made by said ex wife (who was well known for her own vengeful nature) implying he is a closeted bisexual.

I am not of the #bekind brigade but as someone who has cancer myself I really would ask that a glimmer of humanity is shown to him.

Stress really does impact cancer. I would not be at all surprised if these dreadful goings on damage the Kings health very seriously.

I wonder if H&M or CS consider this at all or if they will feel any guilt should the King become more unwell?

Not something I could live had I treated a family member so badly.

Which bit is wrong?!

Almost all of it.

Can you evidence this?

The king is a petulant brat, cancer or no cancer.
And having seen Charles Spencer's interview with Laura Kuenssberg, I believe him.

💯

Anyone else feel the Palace machinery might be behind some of the threads and posts? Not saying you OP but jeez oh, many read like RF paid staff posts.

FWIW I believe CS.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 18/09/2026 21:59

There really seems to be a lot of inaccurate information held about Charles and Diana and Camilla.
I won’t go into trying to change anybody’s views because that isn’t the point of the thread but I do suggest people do a bit of background reading from reputable sources before they form their opinions.

Hm, you sure you aren’t on the RF payroll after all OP? Asking for a subject 😉

People who write books about private family affairs and conversations are akin to people who post their family dramas on social media. Pathetic and a desperate attempt to make money.

I never know if it's palace machinery or simply people who believe everything the royal family do is wonderful and should always be defended.
I actually know someone like this. She reacts to any criticism of the royal family however mild, as if someone were criticising her own children. She defends them no matter what. It's honestly a bit bizarre, but strangely fascinating.

Charles Spencer has about £40 million in liquid assets. He is very rich.

This. Classless behaviour.

It’s very embarrassing to be represented as a country by such a dysfunctional family. The less we see of them, the better.

I'd be more interested if one of Spencer's ex wives broke cover with a tell all.

My sympathy this week is for William and Harry - having the tragic events around their mother’s death dragged up again! Why couldn’t their uncle have showed them some compassion, rather than him having his five minutes of fame again?

It's "fifteen" minutes of fame

Valeryvictorious · 18/09/2026 23:31

I’m a cancer survivor. I’ve never expected special treatment.

I think he should abdicate, so him and Camilla can enjoy their retirement. William and Kate appear to have more integrity.

BrokenWingsCantFly · 18/09/2026 23:33

I agree in part about Diana's brother bringing all this up now is unnecessary. But not because of KC cancer, just in general. If he was genuine about this then he should have brought it up then, not sit on it and bring it up after 30 years. He might be telling the truth, but it doesn't look good that he only mentioned it at a time where it happens to bring a light onto his book. Noone would care or even want to look at this book if it wasn't for a fresh scandal.

Disagree that Harry is doing anything wrong returning to the UK at the time his dad has cancer though. Harry is obviously mixed up and going through some sort of pain, no one on this thread knows if what he has spoke up about is truth or not. Only he and his family knows that. But a dad is unlikely to be suffering at the thought of his son returning to live in the same country along with the grandchildren. Any decent father would be glad to be able to spend time with them all, especially if their time may be limited.

The whole family seems riddled with issues and scandal though, so I find it hard to gather sympathy for any hurt 1 gives the other. Look at what we know about these people, that is only what we know, im guessing there is more scandal and hurtful behaviour that they have managed to keep out of public knowledge. They have more than your average family of dysfunctional behaviour, but yet they are looked up to by many.

William and Kate seem to be doing alright. The late queen also seemed like a decent woman with morals, respect and dignity, but even in her marriage she had to just turn a blind eye to infidelity.

They are a mess. If this was your average family on an estate then they would be looked down on, not admired

Is it though? Why should folk who expose or call out wrongdoing be treated like they’re doing wrong? Not classless at all. Courageous given daft statements like this to be expected but do it anyway.

I knew exactly what type of person you were when I got to treacherous son and exploitive daughter in law. One of those! It’s so weird to be so upset and invested in the life of a man who literally thinks you’re less than dirt on the bottom of his shoe. Will never understand anyone who loves the royals. Why on earth are you so content with living under a system like the monarchy? Where is your self respect?

CalamityJane81 · 19/09/2026 00:05

Hahahaha his beautiful home, private healthcare, chauffeur and not worrying about the bills being paid will offer him some comfort I’m sure. He’s not in a care home that stinks of piss, eating puréed food is he ffs?

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 18/09/2026 21:53

To those who disagree, I am not saying the King’s actions cannot be criticised.

He is of course in a public role which will be held accountable in public opinion but I do think his diagnosis should be kept in mind because he is already fighting something far bigger than any of his critics.

I have always thought in the face of terminal illness ( and as far as we know the King is “living with cancer” which implies it is incurable, as is the case with my own cancer) arguments pale into insignificance.

I’m not saying I would forgive a murderer or rapist but most other things I would put to one side and show that person a bit of understanding for the horrible situation they find themselves in.

Facing your own mortality is hard to comprehend until you have to do so yourself, and then there are the numerous discomforts and sheer exhaustion arising from both the illness itself and the treatments.

I actually nursed my own father, who I detested because he had been a horrible, horrible father, through his last months with lung cancer because I wouldn’t leave anybody to suffer that without support and, I will be honest, because I wanted to be able to live with myself afterwards knowing that I had done what I could.

I also watched my lovely mum die of a brain tumour when I was just a little girl and always wished I could have had the chance to do something to care for her but I was too young.

From experience, grief is awful to live with but grief combined with guilt is a killer.

Harry would do well to think on that.

I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through and are going through.
The process of turning from a child, taking and being cared for by a parent, to an adult giving and caring for an elderly parent, is quite a life changing and actually an enriching one. It’s when we finally grow up. I hope Harry gets there in time.

I’m very sympathetic. I think the best thing would be to let them all hand in all their titles and properties and go off into peaceful private lives, never again bothered by the peasants. It’s only fair really.

A pox on both their houses

PlayingMyBongos · 19/09/2026 00:31

All a mess if his own making.

I wish him no ill will and feel sorry that he isn’t well, but he treated Diana outrageously, obviously wasn’t father of the year and seems to have lived a very selfish, self interested life. Being old and ill doesn’t excuse you from facing the consequences of your own actions.

Had you thought I wasn't and then changed your mind?
It is quite possible to show compassion for someone with a life threatening illness without being paid to do so.
