The royal family

A bit of compassion for a King with cancer wouldn’t go amiss.

Yes, of course he is head of state but he is also a human being with cancer.

In the past few weeks alone he has faced the shock return of a treacherous son and an exploitative daughter in law set on destabilising the monarchy which is the King’s life works, and destroying any peace within the family.
When trying to deal with the situation he is damned if he says something to try to control them and damned if he doesn’t.

Now he has a vengeful ex brother in law accusing him (with zero evidence) of disgraceful comments and conduct at the time of the highly traumatic death of his late wife and also repeating scurrilous slander made by said ex wife (who was well known for her own vengeful nature) implying he is a closeted bisexual.

I am not of the #bekind brigade but as someone who has cancer myself I really would ask that a glimmer of humanity is shown to him.

Stress really does impact cancer. I would not be at all surprised if these dreadful goings on damage the Kings health very seriously.

I wonder if H&M or CS consider this at all or if they will feel any guilt should the King become more unwell?

Not something I could live had I treated a family member so badly.

I knew exactly what type of person you were when I got to treacherous son and exploitive daughter in law. One of those! It’s so weird to be so upset and invested in the life of a man who literally thinks you’re less than dirt on the bottom of his shoe. Will never understand anyone who loves the royals. Why on earth are you so content with living under a system like the monarchy? Where is your self respect?

I don't "love the royals" at all.

I like some better than others (from what we can know) and I do believe a constitutional monarchy is better than a republic because it gives us more balance to the instability of politics.

I also value the historical significance but at the same time I see the absurdity of inheritance.

My plea for compassion would be the same if our PM was suffering from cancer
and going through the abuse and turmoil the King is going through.

I judge H&M based on their own words and actions which we have seen for ourselves in their numerous "interviews", their tv series and book and I see plenty of treachery and exploitation and my self respect is fine thanks.

I can live with my life choices as someone who tries to do the right thing by people suffering from cancer (or indeed other life threatening illness) and I speak both from personal experience with family members and from professional experience as a retired nurse.

For all I dislike Harry for his behaviour I do genuinely fear for him when his father eventually dies because if he is ever able to admit responsibility for the way he has treated him it will be a very large cross to bear indeed and one which would break many people.

And it’s telling the press, BBC in particular, have had oh so much more to report on this, than a president lying about his whereabouts during 9/11

What President, when?

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 19/09/2026 02:09

pinkdyno · 18/09/2026 21:27

Ehh?? Can you link me to the BBC REPORT of the president of USA lie.

compared to the coverage of this

What lie?

If you are talking about Presidnt Trump, I don't know if he was at GZ on Day one but he was there the next day and interviewed by major news stations. He sent construction workers down there and even mentioned that a couple had been injured but they were helping.

Now, if you mean President Biden, yeah, he said he was there on Day 2 but he didn't show up until Day 8.

HTH

Harry is said to be planning a documentary about her but I agree about William who has said he wants her to be left to rest in peace.

She deserves to RIP.

Harry would never present a true documentary about his mother because to him, she had no faults.

William knew she was not perfect and wishes to let her rest, the good, the bad and the ugly. As it should be after all these years.

Totally disagree with your last paragraph. They were forced by a baying mob to bring the princes back from Balmoral, just to keep the Sans Culottes happy.

And Blair really exploited the situation.

I read that W&H went to France with King Charles to bring Diana's body back home, along with two of Diana's sisters.
I knew Charles and Diana's sisters were there but had no idea the boys went. I don't remember seeing them until they wee outside the palace looking at all the flowers/gifts.

Do you honestly think, that H hasn't been aware of the book? He's close with his uncle, I reckon he's well aware of the things that were going to come out. Diana was manipulative and passed that trait on to her youngest son.

Yes, she was. Harry and his uncle have both shown many of the same behaviors.

I think the book is why H&M came back. They want front row seats to the fall out. I am sure they have practiced their woebegone faces and the BS stories they can spout at their next interview.

Get the 🍿🍿🍺🍸ready.

I'm sure people do have compassion for him with regards to having cancer. However he has consistantly shown himself to be a rude, arrogant, short-tempered man with little empathy for others. He has made poor decision after poor decision. Having cancer doesn't exempt anyone from the consequences of their actions. He also covered up for his disgraceful brother and is still doing so. He took the minimum action only due to facing the anger of the British public.

Don't worry too much about his cancer treatment. He is recieving the best money can buy whilst others die in hospital corridors.
You've given your opinion. This is mine. I won't enter into a debate as we are worlds apart. Done.

What’s the purpose of this statement? To ask other poster to not respond? If you don’t want to debate, don’t.

Perhaps that's because the UK doesn't have a president.

This is patronising. You think poster doesn’t know?

BoaAlba · 18/09/2026 22:45

While I’m paying my taxes to him and his family of fuckups, I want to watch him squirm.

Alternatively, he could abdicate and continue to be one of the richest people in Britain by birth rather than having actually worked for it, and use his position to get the best treatment for his cancer that money can afford. That’s our money and we can’t afford the same treatments.

sorry, no sympathy at all.

How much money comes from you to the RF? I've been told it's actually very, very little, around 4 pounds/yr/pp?

So, how much is it actually?

Taxpayers pay approximately £86.3 million a year to the Royal Family through the Sovereign Grant, which funds their official duties and maintenance of royal residences. However, anti-monarchists claim the total cost to taxpayers is around £510 million when including additional expenses like security and lost income from royal properties.

The Royal Family does not have a legal obligation to pay tax, but since 1993, the Monarch and the heir have voluntarily paid statutory rates of income tax on income from the Duchies and personal investments. They also pay capital gains and inheritance tax in certain circumstances, but the exact amount of taxes paid is not publicly disclosed.

The Royal Family, particularly King Charles III, has paid significant taxes, with King Charles revealing he paid £12.9 million in tax for the year 2024-25, which is notably higher than what many other wealthy individuals might pay. This reflects their commitment to contributing to the British state despite their immense wealth.

What a load of old bollocks.

I couldn’t give a shiny shite about Charles, but I hardly think his son moving back to England is a trauma. Nor his ex brother in law writing a book about his ex wife.

From what I’ve seen, he’s an arrogant prick, like most of his dysfunctional family.

Your post is a load of bollocks. What a cold cold heart

I think that many people are on the king’s side, despite his failings.

M&H are bitter, illogical and just deranged. Their actions make no sense. They have both trashed their own families repeatedly and shit talk for money. They’ve just returned to the UK having apparently escaped racism, suicidal feelings and a family they seem to despise. Hmm. Why? Want money? Want content? No person or business trusts them as they are proven liars.

CS looks like he needs money. He can say what he wants about Charles and Diana - that was a shitshow for sure - but let’s not forget his wife at the time, Victoria Lockwood, was despairing, in pain, anorexic, lonely and basically destroyed whilst she was married to him and he was cheating. I am old enough to remember the photos in the newspapers in the 80s/90s. Three divorces and about 7 children. Married for the 4th time recently. I don’t think it makes him sound loyal and reasonable. It makes him sound selfish, arrogant and ruthless. Again, book=money. I think he’s damaged his own reputation more than the king’s.

Absolutely well said 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I'd be more interested if one of Spencer's ex wives broke cover with a tell all.

Yes me too. Earl Spencer has done quite a lot in recent years to let it be known he is a reformed character. His PR have been working hard behind the scenes to polish up his image ... probably as a soft launch for this new money grabbing enterprise book of his.

We all know about the King's character flaws by now. I don't think the Earl is going to do any lasting harm to his reputation. Much like Harry, he is more likely to be reviled for exploiting his connections to make a lot of grubby money from a tacky book.

Janecat23 · 19/09/2026 05:04

Charles Spencer is the one capitalising on his sisters death by serialising in the daily mail. Honestly these people complain about the press then court the press.

It’s ok.
I actually struggle with social conflict and sometimes sort of use the benefit of MN to try to toughen myself up a bit because nastiness seems to come with the territory here.
When it all gets too much I potter off to the Gardening board.
People are lovely there.

I'm the same OP. I hate conflict and confrontation in the real world but have used MN to practice toughening up a bit lol.
I'm sorry to read about your cancer diagnosis and hope you are on the road to recovery 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Apparently CS has written that Diana told him Charles was in love with his valet.

Knowing Diana and her sense of humour I can only imagine this was said as a wry joke in that he spent more time with his valet and cared more for him than me. It may not have meant in a sexual way yet of course media have jumped on that! As for KC just because he has cancer does not mean he is an empathic man. I’m on the fence tbh there is no proof that anything said in the book is actually true re KC

As reported elsewhere on this board,
my dc came home one day this week and asked me how I was feeling, now the person I loved more than anyone else in the world, was back from their 2 month holiday. My dc was talking about my cleaner.

There’s not a lot of compassion on here for other men who spent their entire marriage cheating on their wife. Why should we feel sorry for him now that he’s old and ill?

justasking111 · 19/09/2026 09:03

Some families are dysfunctional. When one such family marries into another family of the same ilk sparks and feuds, imagined slights cause uproar.

When theyre famous instead of complaining to friends they get to write a book about it. Publishers love it. The recipients of the complaints now have to endure some version of their lives being available to all.

I am thankful that the worst member of our family for spreading untruths, twisted versions of their slights is dead. And yes I know they weren't quite right in the head. But the damage they did to three generations was unforgivable. It would have been a lot worse if they'd been able to write a best selling book.
