The royal family

A bit of compassion for a King with cancer wouldn’t go amiss.

Yes, of course he is head of state but he is also a human being with cancer.

In the past few weeks alone he has faced the shock return of a treacherous son and an exploitative daughter in law set on destabilising the monarchy which is the King’s life works, and destroying any peace within the family.
When trying to deal with the situation he is damned if he says something to try to control them and damned if he doesn’t.

Now he has a vengeful ex brother in law accusing him (with zero evidence) of disgraceful comments and conduct at the time of the highly traumatic death of his late wife and also repeating scurrilous slander made by said ex wife (who was well known for her own vengeful nature) implying he is a closeted bisexual.

I am not of the #bekind brigade but as someone who has cancer myself I really would ask that a glimmer of humanity is shown to him.

Stress really does impact cancer. I would not be at all surprised if these dreadful goings on damage the Kings health very seriously.

I wonder if H&M or CS consider this at all or if they will feel any guilt should the King become more unwell?

Not something I could live had I treated a family member so badly.

He used Diana to give him an heir while shagging Camilla on the side.So no sympathy from me.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 18/09/2026 21:53

To those who disagree, I am not saying the King’s actions cannot be criticised.

He is of course in a public role which will be held accountable in public opinion but I do think his diagnosis should be kept in mind because he is already fighting something far bigger than any of his critics.

I have always thought in the face of terminal illness ( and as far as we know the King is “living with cancer” which implies it is incurable, as is the case with my own cancer) arguments pale into insignificance.

I’m not saying I would forgive a murderer or rapist but most other things I would put to one side and show that person a bit of understanding for the horrible situation they find themselves in.

Facing your own mortality is hard to comprehend until you have to do so yourself, and then there are the numerous discomforts and sheer exhaustion arising from both the illness itself and the treatments.

I actually nursed my own father, who I detested because he had been a horrible, horrible father, through his last months with lung cancer because I wouldn’t leave anybody to suffer that without support and, I will be honest, because I wanted to be able to live with myself afterwards knowing that I had done what I could.

I also watched my lovely mum die of a brain tumour when I was just a little girl and always wished I could have had the chance to do something to care for her but I was too young.

From experience, grief is awful to live with but grief combined with guilt is a killer.

Harry would do well to think on that.

My sympathy this week is for William and Harry - having the tragic events around their mother’s death dragged up again! Why couldn’t their uncle have showed them some compassion, rather than him having his five minutes of fame again?

Perhaps he’s as fed up as a lot of people are that the late Queen is held up as some paragon of virtue and so is Charles.

The Queen paid millions to silence Andrew’s victim - you’d not do that if you thought he was innocent.

Charles cheated on Diana the entire time they were married and told her he didn’t love her.

The whole Royal Family behaved appallingly when Diana died and it took then Prime Minister Tony Blair intervening to get them to behave more appropriately. Comments they made at the time were reported and none made them seem caring at all.

Twatterati · 18/09/2026 21:48

There’s not a lot of compassion on here for other men who spent their entire marriage cheating on their wife. Why should we feel sorry for him now that he’s old and ill?

I don’t know - you do you.

i do feel for him and his sons over this, personally. It’s petty, cruel, vengeful, small-minded and mercenary. But think of the dosh!

JuliettaCaeser · 18/09/2026 21:56

When I found out how obscenely wealthy he and William are it sickened me. It’s gross.

AllTheToddlers · 18/09/2026 21:57

I guess you can chat to others about it when you give up your chrismtas day to see them walk to church and think they are your friends.

Totally disagree with your last paragraph. They were forced by a baying mob to bring the princes back from Balmoral, just to keep the Sans Culottes happy.

And Blair really exploited the situation.

There really seems to be a lot of inaccurate information held about Charles and Diana and Camilla.
I won’t go into trying to change anybody’s views because that isn’t the point of the thread but I do suggest people do a bit of background reading from reputable sources before they form their opinions.

What is your judgment on Spencer’s own relationship record?

Or is that somehow different?

I don’t think they want to. Research into what actually happened might shake their beloved narrative of “Charles bad, Diana angelic “.

They don’t want the truth to get in the way of their articles of faith.

I don’t think people I have never met are my friends, I am simply suggesting a man’s state of health is considered.

As for travelling anywhere to see anything chance would be a fine thing.

That is the reality of cancer, I’m lucky to get to the end of my garden but thanks for the snark.

I have done a lot of reading from trustworthy sources. Try Andrew Lownie. He is actually a monarchist but pulls no punches in his critique of their behaviour. Including the Queen.
I don't know what sources you are forming your opinion from but it's strange that you think nobody else researches before forming an opinion just because it differs from yours.

I have read two of Andrew Lownie’s books actually and he describes the King as “a very kind man”.
I also have not said he is never wrong.

What a load of old bollocks.

I couldn’t give a shiny shite about Charles, but I hardly think his son moving back to England is a trauma. Nor his ex brother in law writing a book about his ex wife.

From what I’ve seen, he’s an arrogant prick, like most of his dysfunctional family.

Agree with that. When these people get cancer all I can think about is the people with cancer who get NHS treatment, and my compassion disappears.

Theunamedcat · 18/09/2026 22:12

"Charles cheated on diana" "diana did nothing wrong ever"

She cheated on him broke up marriages destroyed a young womans reputation (tiggys) threw herself downstairs (gently) while pregnant shall I go on? Continued to have relationship after relationship with engaged men even after her divorce breaking up more relationships used her son as an emotional support animal....

Charles wasnt perfect he wanted camilla and took diana instead but after his divorce he stayed with camilla and married her

Im sick to death of the bullshit tripe about Charles and diana ignoring all her admissions and beating him for his its boring it was over thirty years ago

CurlewKate · 18/09/2026 22:09

Why does Spencer’s relationship record have any impact on the King’s?

if one is wrong to have mistreated one wife (allegedly), how about the other mistreating several? Why is one condemned to his dying day and the other given a free pass in the cruelty and adultery department?

Do you honestly think, that H hasn't been aware of the book? He's close with his uncle, I reckon he's well aware of the things that were going to come out. Diana was manipulative and passed that trait on to her youngest son.

CurlewKate · 18/09/2026 22:16

I remember being impressed by Spencer’s eulogy. I have no idea whether he kept any of his promises to his young nephews, but his righteous anger seemed genuine at the time.

OneLilacHedgehog · 18/09/2026 22:19

Okay got the message. People with cancer can never be criticised or held accountable for their actions.

Personally I hate the emotional manipulation of using cancer in this way.

Edited

So that was your takeaway from Lownie's work. He may have said this but his many revelations of Charles might call into question what he meant by kind. Putting that aside, you say that you never said he didn't do anything wrong.
He took cash donations handed over in shopping bags to get someone a knighthood. He covered up (and still does) for a peodophile. I consider that a bit more serious that the slight misdemeanor that you appear to.
He shouts abuse at his staff and breaks things.
Fine. You think he should despite everything be given a pass because he has suffered from Cancer. Others disagree.

alexdgr8 · 18/09/2026 22:20

I have heard several people ring phone ins to say they had had some dealings with then prince Charles.
All of them said they did not recognise the picture the earl painted.
One was a hairdresser who said he seemed genuinely devastated st the time of Diana's death.
Another was someone who produced events and was from the Irish Republic.

So not his king.
He had met him several times and said he was courteous kind and considerate. And compared with many other celebrities came across as genuine and a gentleman.
he said he could not imagine him reacting like that or speaking like that.

Another was the flying spanner on the Queens flight to Paris and back.
He had previously met Diana several times and was a fan of hers.
Yet on that sombre occasion he was impressed by Charles respect and dignity and consideration for others eg Diana's sister.
Charles didn't have to go to Paris.
He wasn't expected to.
His parents were astonished that he intended to and tried to disuade him.
He wouldn't be moved.

OneLilacHedgehog · 18/09/2026 22:21

The truth is if he was not a royal, Charles would have done prison time for his actions.

ABitFab · 18/09/2026 22:22

Well this thread went well OP!
regardless of people's opinions I do agree someone with cancer does need a little less stress.
