Inappropriate photo op for William and catherine

This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

Well, we’ve come a weird full circle here.

OP’s original post was to accuse W&K of taking advantage of a poor elderly woman to do a photo shoot for their own advantage and that being a terrible and shocking thing. (Which ended up not being true it was a selfie requested by the woman herself caught at a bad angle on that particular shot)

But now apparently according to another poster when defending H&M it’s perfectly okay and normal for someone to use anything to their own advantage including sites of tragedies, sick and mentally ill children, even Holocaust memorials are not off limits.

OP - we all know why you started this post - to accuse the Wales of doing the thing that people are criticizing the Sussexes for.

The problem is that Meghan and Harry keep consistently making poor judgement after poor judgement on their attempt to be in the public eye.

I can’t tell whether it’s indifference, incompetence, some sort of impulse control issue or just selfish stupidity at this point.

@wordler

I think it’s all those things - and the inability to take advice. Neither of them seem to like being told what to do, or what not to do, and I think they’re out of their depth now.

How is PMK and her broach different than what Meghan wore to Bondi beach? Can anyone explain?

I would assume that Meghan’s top was an unfortunate coincidence rather than a deliberate choice. I would say I’m fairly knowledgeable about this period in history and have even visited the Holocaust memorial and museum in Israel but I wouldn’t have automatically made the connection without someone pointing it out.

Based on her past reputation I can imagine PMK wearing the brooch deliberately.

Thank you. I didn’t know anything about PMK so assumed after Harry defended her that it wouldn’t have been an intentional message.

No I don’t

Every single day, people go to places like Chernobyl, Auschwitz, the 9/11 Memorial, or historic battlefields, take photos, tag their outfits ("fit checks"), and post them to Instagram or TikTok where they earn ad revenue or affiliate commissions. For a huge portion of the internet-native population, this is just normal digital behavior.

You still see her as a royal even if she is non working royal so hold her to the standards as though she is and therfore going to these sites is to offer comfort etc. But she is a private citizen, was not a working royal and therefore for me.I dont need to hold her up to those same standards. I don't call her trips quasi royal tours because they aren't imo.

🙄

So @LipglossAndLies are you saying that if everyone else jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, you would do it too? And it would be justifiable?

Still waiting for your links

MeghanAndTheSeals · Today 06:34

@LipglossAndLies - wow, can’t quite get my head around what you’ve been posting. I’ve tried, but I just can’t find any way whatsoever of finding even a smidgeon of it being worthy of making me stop and think.

To other posters - I am on the app (cos website is totally useless on my iPad) so I only have the option of the thanks gesture which, honestly, doesn’t feel appropriate for most of the posts. I know I don’t engage much, but I do read on here a fair bit. Your robust and factual responses are appreciated. And the recent, personal ones, resonate with my family history.

They are indeed tragedy tourists and grief vultures. It's so predatory it's chilling.
What a way to make money

I’ve observed them for a long time and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are only 2 possible explanations for this:

  • HAM are cynically exploiting tragic situations for their own benefit in terms of aggrandising themselves (acting like politicians or royals) and improving their public image
  • or they are genuinely so crass and stupid that they actually believe that their attendance helps the victims/bereaved in some way…because they’re such special, charismatic people who can bring ‘healing’ in some mysterious way.

Or most likely, it’s a bit of both. And they’re so unreflective they may not even realise this is what they’re doing!

I agree with Wordler on this because I’m afraid PMK has form in this area! Now if theHAMs had accused her of racism, I might have thought they had a point!

I’m sure M’s shirt was the result of thoughtless ignorance, but highly unfortunate.

I used to work at a museum which had an exhibition and archive of the Holocaust and I and my colleagues tried to be aware of things like wearing stripes or dressing in red, white and black (very chic but sadly reminiscent of Nazi Germany in that context). I’m not suggesting these things shouldn’t be worn - I wear them a lot now - but in that context it didnt feel right.
