Inappropriate photo op for William and catherine

This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

Sorry, cross post, @noonames

The PP’s apparent suggestion that Meghan’s exploitation of vulnerable people is comparable to a normal royal / celebrity hospital visit is shocking enough to warrant more than one response I think!

Absolutely! There is no comparison between the two women's public appearances. Whatsoever.

Catherine hasn't taken that opportunity to merchandise her clothing.

People still make comments about how Meghan is using sick children for PR. Not about merchandising clothes that's a seperate point.

She is a private citizen she isn't required to follow whatever Royal protocols are in place, if she wants to merchandise her clothes or let people know what she wore and? Plenty of people.do it, influences, celebrities etc. To a certain point we also used ro know what Catherine wore.

Yes, we know what Catherine wears. It's not a secret.
Meghan is a private citizen who makes well publicised quasi royal tours. Remember that tour of Australia? The visit to the scene of the antisemitic massacre?
Read up on that.
I was utterly disgusted. Just when you think the Sussexes couldn't stoop any lower.

Merchandising your outfit that you wore to visit sick children would suggest that your motive for visiting the children was not your concern for their welfare, whoever you happen to be. So, bad optics. Do you not agree?

I mean yeah, she can indeed plug her merch as much as she likes, indeed as much as others do
.
Doesn't mean it's a good thing to do though does it? This just feels like we are arguing she has a right to behave as she does. Of course she does.

TheOvertGardener · Yesterday 10:57

Yes, she has every right to behave however she likes. It will continue to be noted and discussed.

Holy hell, does she have a stake in Mumsnet?

Meghan isn't above criticism.
Some of her followers seem to think she's a saint.

You and the media call is a quasi royal tour they didn't.

No I don't agree. She didn't visit the children just so she could merch her clothes otherwise she would be doing fsr more engagements than we have seen.

There are plenty of people who ask or wonder what she wore just as there are for Catherine. Sharing what they did wear isn't the reason why they went to do what they did.

BemusedAmerican · Yesterday 11:41

Really? I find that hard to believe.

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 11:42

Sharing what you wear is one thing.

Sharing what you wear on a visit to sick children or bereaved relatives at the worst anti-Semitic massacre in Australian history is another.

Sharing what you wear on a visit to sick children or bereaved relatives at the worst anti-Semitic massacre in Australian history using an affiliate link is yet another.

Sharing what you wear on a visit to sick children or bereaved relatives at the worst anti-Semitic massacre in Australian historyusing an affiliate link on a website of a company that you have shares in is another again.

All these things are free choices. People are also free to comment on them.

So she provides a link to where you can buy her outfit, so she can get a cut. Including that tragic scene.
Tasteful.

But there were actual “links” to the clothes for sale. That isn’t the same as just listing what she was wearing 🤔

Launched just before the quasi-royal tour. But no, that’s not why she did it. She was doing a public service by helping people find her outfits.

TheOvertGardener · Yesterday 11:47

In fact, it shows she cares about people that she makes it easy for them to find her clothing and buy it. It’s a kindness. Others could learn from her largesse.

I don’t believe Meghan’s primary motivation for those Australia photos was PR, it was money. Catherine is not getting commission on sales of the clothes she wears when visiting vulnerable people.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Yesterday 13:56

Catherine also doesn't benefit if the clothes she was seen wearing get sold out after being reported on.
