Kate & The Middletons

I am currently reading Russsll Myers Catherine & William. Enjoying it but one thing that stands out is how the Middletons have never put a foot wrong.
Carole was not from an aristocratic background nor was Michael but they raised their kids not to put a step wrong. Kate also had embarrassing family members (Uncle Gary) but she still invited him to the wedding which was the right thing to do & it nipped the media scandal in the bud & took the wind out of any sails.. Meghan invited none of her extended family or her dad & it caused massive media speculation.
Kate was born for royal life & is a natural. Very proud of our future queen. Her parents did an amazing job.

Perhaps. But this is a thread about Kate not Megan.

Threads do expand though...

I never understood what the big deal was about the clooneys at the wedding.
Did William invite them and they said no? I can't see any other reason for the anger around this.

You keep going on about the Clooneys for some obsessed reason.

George will have known H's late mother probably since the 1980s. What do you not understand about including one of your Mum's friends to a big celebration?

They're not your friends though....they were his mothers.

Because Meghan invited none of Doria's family & none of the Markle side. Poor Doria was the lone ranger on Megan's side.
But.... the Clooneys were invited. When they decided Ham weren't worth being associated with (like many other A listers) they dealt the blow that they didn't even know Meghan when invited to the wedding 😆

And just maybe H wanted to have a chat with him about his Mum, and show recognition of any support he may have been to her in darker days.
All sorts of people get invited to very big weddings.
You'll be saying the charity people shouldn't have been there next because they didn't go to school with the bride or groom.

Thats true actually. I forgot about all the hard graft they did to place her in the right position and at the right time in order to ensnare him!

After all that calculated work I can imagine she was simply too exhausted to ever work again.

No, seriously, was it not a feat? I mean, 'marriage across the barricades' is there was ever one. Like how? I look back at myself in disgust, aghast at my primitiveness - like when I liked a boy, I could never ever engineer anything - not even like bumping into him accidentally on purpose in school during a break. I am seriously jealous. I think if the Middletons were put in charge of annexing, say the region of Bordeaux, it would have been done no problem and the residents of Bordeaux would have been expressing their gratitude and saying how lucky they were.

'Dealt the blow?'
For gods sake, hear yourself.
What better occasion for both of them to introduce their new wives?

simpsonthecat · 18/09/2026 12:41

I don't think she's lazy. If you add up the royal engagements and the prep time for them, she likely works a standard 35 hour week

Seriously? Do you think she carries out all her own research ? Honestly? Why have they got all these staff then? Even before she was ill, she worked about half a day a week!
She has averaged about 50 engagements a year for years! And then there's 16 weeks off during school holidays

And some of those engagements take 15 minutes.

Really???? And the bride didn't invite a single member of either side of her family? No neighbours, school friends? Why??
Kate invited the whole of Bucklebury Village, all her old school friends she's still very close with, extended family on both her mum & dad's side...

TBH. This post is making me feel sorry for Meghan 🤣. Ok she’s obviously not perfect but the woman didn’t choose who her dreadful family are. She can’t help her deranged sister, a father that goes to the press and a brother who thinks impersonating her on YouTube is funny. Do we know how much family her mum has?

Lucky for Kate she doesn’t have to deal with this.

And some of those engagements take 15 minutes.

And the background work to prepare those 15 minute engagements could take hours of research, factor in time travelling to get to said engagement etc & the small matter of raising our future king!

Hi OP. I absolutely agree with you. I think she is great and currently the major highlight of the royal family. She hasn't behaved badly at all. I do hope Catherine feels as though she can cut loose sometimes and 'be naughty' and feisty and doesn't always feel she has to be good, though? Everyone needs to let go sometimes. She looks very self-controlled and perfect (mean that in a good way). Does she ever have a massive curry and a beer because she is hungry and it's a friday night, I doubt it but I hope she can if she wants to.

I embarrassingly used to find her a little 'bland' but I can now see she was doing the thing that the Queen did which was not to have opinions as she doesn't think that is her job. Catherine does look like a caring and loving person.

Tabbytiger122 · 18/09/2026 12:11

We already established she had no family barr poor Doria.
I asked you for proof of the friends. Who were the old school & college friends? The suits gang were co workers..
Neighbours?? Kate had the whole of Bucklebury village there to celebrate with her!

You haven't asked me for proof of the friends. I offered names, you didn't pick up on it.

Longtime friends like college best friends Lindsay Roth and Genevieve Hillis, designer Misha Nonoo, makeup artist Daniel Martin, and Benita Litt were present.. Close friends from Suits, they weren't just "co workers". Priyanka Chopra, Serena Williams too.

Why are you obsessed about the Clooneys and "poor" Doria?!

I invited some of my mum’s friends and some of my MIL’s friends to my wedding. Never met MIL’s friends before the wedding, and have never seen them since.

If you read the book you will find out that both Catherine & William were furious behind the scenes & very concerned for the ex Ham staff but the palace didn't want Megs behaviour leaked to the press so didn't handle it appropriately.

Why are you so obsessed with Meghan? Your thread was meant to be a sycophantic thread about Kate.

Are you saying Kate spends hours researching the places she goes to?

Don't be silly. She has private secretaries, principal private secretaries, digital advisors, Media advisors, researchers, assistant secretary, personal assistants. Yet you insinuate she does hours of research before shaking someone's hand!

You must think we're all stupid!

So 5 friends?! Poor Doria was the only family member there, no extended family were invited. I just feels it is very odd & cold to invite the Clooneys who you never met.

Compare to Catherine having all her loving family around her & even nvited all of Bucklybury village. For Catherine family is everything & it shows, William is still on great terms with all of his family & extended family barr Andy & Haz...
Haz out in the cold now with all his family, never met his father in law. Like the dysfunction is glaringly obvious in comparison to Catherine who had an idyllic childhood & family support.

Grin

It certainly was a feat. They played the game very well and it paid off. The pièce de résistance being the catwalk show in her undies - fucking genius!

I bet the Clooneys never even said anything like that. It was tenth hand tabloid tittle-tattle alleged to have come from the late Queen's racing manager who happened to be seated adjacent.
I suppose you think he shouldn't have been there, either?
It's a royal wedding, not a Jehovah's Witness do where you have to shun everyone not in the sect.

Reading a summary for 15 minutes in your chauffeured car, then cutting a ribbon for 5 minutes, and spending 20 minutes talking to people ain’t exactly a hard day’s graft.
