Kate & The Middletons

I am currently reading Russsll Myers Catherine & William. Enjoying it but one thing that stands out is how the Middletons have never put a foot wrong.
Carole was not from an aristocratic background nor was Michael but they raised their kids not to put a step wrong. Kate also had embarrassing family members (Uncle Gary) but she still invited him to the wedding which was the right thing to do & it nipped the media scandal in the bud & took the wind out of any sails.. Meghan invited none of her extended family or her dad & it caused massive media speculation.
Kate was born for royal life & is a natural. Very proud of our future queen. Her parents did an amazing job.

That’s the one.

Lovelyworld1 · 04/10/2026 14:08

I really wish I could like Meghan , I honestly do, but I’m struggling to understand some of her choices.
Why invite so many celebrities to your wedding when, from the outside, it seems as though they were given more consideration than your own family? Did she really have a closer relationship with all of those people than she did with her family?
And I couldn’t help feeling sorry for her mum. She looked so alone. Surely there was a friend, colleague, or someone she trusted who could have been invited to keep her company and share such an important occasion with her.
And then there’s her dad. Yes, he made mistakes, and perhaps he’s done things that are difficult to forgive. But he’s still her dad, and he’s clearly unwell. I just kept thinking, couldn’t she have put everything aside for a moment, gone over to him, held his hand and simply acknowledged that he’s her father?
Maybe there’s far more to the situation than we know, and of course we only see a small part of their lives. But watching it, I couldn’t help feeling that there were moments when a little more compassion towards her parents would have meant so much.

I have already explained that royal supporters treat her like a living saint because they never criticise her however small, they praise her effusively for mundane things such as talking to a child, and they jump on any criticism of her however small.

You obviously are all in denial about it though. Although it is obvious to anyone else that royal supporters treat her like a living saint.

I think it must be hard for her that her supporters don't see her as a living human being with flaws like anyone else. Having to live up to the idea of a living saint is a lot of pressure.

What a childish and petty post.

"you are all in denial"?

Who are you referring to?

OneLilacHedgehog · 04/10/2026 13:19

I don't dislike Catherine. How childish. She is a stranger to me.
I think her public persona is boring. She walks, she smiles, she wears clothes, that's it. She likes cocktails and sunny places, loves her children and is sporty. Her public persona is of an identikit Barbie.

A stranger to you yet you start a thread about her using an elderly woman as a " prop" ?

fuschiaproudparrot · 04/10/2026 14:42

OneLilacHedgehog · 04/10/2026 12:22

All of you who support the royals simply say how wonderful Catherine is. She gets praised very highly for doing fairly ordinary things like talking to a child. Nothing negative is ever said about her and anyone who says anything negative at all is immediately pounced on.
What else would you call that except treating her like a living saint?

Do you mean nothing negative is said about her in the press ? That's mostly true today because she DOES the job with great aptitude it would seem, dresses appropriately and is well received by the public she interacts with.

What she doesn't do is :
go half naked to schools
turn up at a cinema in a ball gown
march ahead of veterans
act as a grief tourist from LA to Uvalde to Sydney
tell lies about her family
push her husband about in public
mock the late Queen
tell lies about her wedding
tell lies about her son
the list is endless.....

I don’t want my hard earned tax £ funding non-working trouble makers either. Are we turning this thread into a benefits bashing thread now?

Nope! Most people receiving benefits don't expect the taxpayera to pay millions for their security nor do taxpayers!
I can only think of two trouble making grifters demanding we taxpayers pay gor their security!

This entire post by you is misogynistic claptrap.

I don't feel a bit sorry for Markle but I feel incredibly sad for her children. They are completely alienated from both sides of their families through no fault of their own but due to their parents actions. It is so incredibly dysfunctional to have no family relationships.

The funny thing is that the very thing hypocritical Ham accused Mr Markle of doing is what they make a living out of... selling stories about the royal family. The irony is spectacular

They just don't see it, Tabby

Nono22972 · 04/10/2026 15:00

I agree that the overwhelming praise of Kate can be exhausting but I'm happy she's finally getting postive press. People don't remember that she was getting a lot of bad press from the time she started dating William to 2018-2019.

As someone who likes both women (yes, we exist 🤣) and kind of dislikes both princes, it's interesting how much hate both women get. Meghan is more targeted because the media is also constantly on her back and her father's side of family bashing her every chance they get but Kate also gets a lot of hate on social media.

I don't know how they both do it. Imagine having people constantly talking about your marriage, your children, your appearance. I would go crazy, take my kids and run away from the craziness

What "overwhelming praise of Kate"?

I like her but you can't deny she gets a lot of positive press than she deserves. A lot of the press and supporters act like she's a saint, can do no wrong, how she's the saviour of the monarchy, how it would crumble without her.

Kate is the least working royal. The numbers don't lie. Older royals in their 80s do more than her. She does the bare minimum. Her charity work is barely visible. She doesn't seem to be passionate by any of her patronage.

Yet, she's never criticised for it

I have never seen her referred to as a Saint.
Perhaps you can provide some links to these articles with positive press, which is "more than she deserves"?
Just to add; you are incorrect with your comparison to the Royals "in their 80s".
You have also possibly forgotten that she was off with treatment for cancer.

Lovelyworld1 · 04/10/2026 17:58

You’re entitled to that opinion, but you’re presenting it as fact without actually providing any evidence….. Saying she’s the “least working royal,” does the “bare minimum,” or isn’t passionate about her work requires more than personal perception. If the numbers really don’t lie, then show the numbers and sources rather than making claims based on how you feel about her
Also a compassionate and unbiased person would acknowledge she’s recovering from cancer.

Yes. Sparse evidence.
The Royals in their 80s are the Gloucesters. The Kents I believe are in their 90s. Understandable that the Gloucesters do only a few engagements, and the Kents nominal.
So. Not true.

I think part of the reason is that she’s the mother of 3 children and, while obviously there is help with that, attitudes to bringing up royal children have changed over the last 3 decades. The influence of the middle class Middletons will also mean that Catherine is more involved with her children than either Diana or the late Queen would have been.

Plus she has been seriously ill and that experience, even if the treatment works, is a longterm process.

Also - a pp on MN once pointed out that not all her/ their engagements get into the Court Circular.

I don’t see her as lazy at all in view of these considerations. She and W have a lifetime of duty ahead of them…at the moment there’s no retirement age for royals.

TheOvertGardener · 04/10/2026 18:11

When I am exhausted I have a nap. Though I’ve never found praise of another person to be exhausting.

I would find Catherine’s duties exhausting, though. Having to be “on” and smiling and making small talk to strangers looks exhausting.

Tabbytiger122 · 04/10/2026 11:17

As a taxpayer I am very invested as I do not wish my hard earned money to cover the security of a pair of non working trouble makers! And the feeling is mutual however I wouldn't spit full stop as it is a vile disgusting habit.
Interesting that you feel Ham are more than capable of that dirty habit!

Agreed

CoffeeCantata · 04/10/2026 18:17

Yes - if you’ve never had to do that kind of thing you might think it’s an easy gig. And on top of what you mention, there’s also the fact that she’s mustn’t put a foot wrong, mustn’t have the “wrong” facial expression and will be under extreme scrutiny at all times with some people ready to tear her apart if they manage to find a fault.

ThrwhelsOntHEbuzgoroundandrund · 04/10/2026 18:30

Again with the saintyness.

Was that in a crossword clue or something today?

It’s having a bit of a twirl on this thread today.

Kate's job is obviously very skilled, not giving your opinion, not being controversial, portraying the Royal Family in the best possible light.
Never complaining. Never explaining. Knowing exactly what your role is.

Markle couldn't manage ANY of the above despite declaring her "boots on the ground " those boots legged it accoss the Atlantic when she realised she did not have the skills for the role she signed up for!

Meghan didn’t understand the role at all. I blame her arrogant dismissal of offered help but also Harry’s sheer hopelessness as a mentor to her. She never seems to think she has anything to learn from anyone and possibly thought “I’ll show them how it’s done!”. But she didn’t get it at all.
