Kate & The Middletons

I am currently reading Russsll Myers Catherine & William. Enjoying it but one thing that stands out is how the Middletons have never put a foot wrong.
Carole was not from an aristocratic background nor was Michael but they raised their kids not to put a step wrong. Kate also had embarrassing family members (Uncle Gary) but she still invited him to the wedding which was the right thing to do & it nipped the media scandal in the bud & took the wind out of any sails.. Meghan invited none of her extended family or her dad & it caused massive media speculation.
Kate was born for royal life & is a natural. Very proud of our future queen. Her parents did an amazing job.

I can't be bothered to argue with you. It's really boring.

You carry on calling people by their surname if that's your thing
It's not mine. I've never done it and won't start now

You are fine to write as you please. Others people are also fine to think it a bit presumptuous to tell other people that they are in the wrong for writing something perfectly acceptable just because you don’t like it.

fuschiaproudparrot · 03/10/2026 17:20

We've all possibly seen the odd random crazy posts on here by occasional visitors or name changers where they use extremely offensive terms to try to stir the pot about both the RF and the Sussexes. They are routinely ignored. This isn't Reddit or other worse places I hear about where this is the norm so people trying to suggest this are being deceptive. Markle isn't one I see regularly on here. No credence is given to her not having children or that she had a hysterectomy and they are not hers. These topics are not engaged in by regulars here and are usually firmly shut down . However there IS a thread on here by a current regular poster which IS demeaning to the Princess of Wales suggesting that she uses old people as a " prop". I suggest @simpsonthecat consider that. What does that tell you about that poster ?

And it’s also fine to say that calling a woman just by her surname is rude.
meghan Markle fine
markle. Rude

simpsonthecat · 03/10/2026 17:26

Serenster. You never give up do you?

I haven't challenged every poster who has called Meghan by her surname. They can carry on doing it if they want and I will carry on thinking it is rude. My prerogative.

Fuschiaproudparrot. I haven't posted on that thread or even read it and I'm not the thread police for the whole of the RF board! Besides which it's nothing to do with calling women by their surname. I suggest you report posts that you think break TG.

CoffeeCantata · 03/10/2026 17:29

@fuschiaproudparrot

There have been many appeals on there for the OP to return to answer pps’ questions, but they seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

Take it up with the Times, BBC and Associated Press style guides, not me….

“Speaking at a function, Thatcher noted…”
“Accepting her Oscar, Winslet thanked…”
“At the summit in Brussels, Merkel visited…”
“In her seminal work, Woolf wrote…”

These are all perfectly normal, perfectly acceptable references in written English . Finding it rude is a very personal reaction.

Exactly

No one on this thread called Meghan by her surname.

Also “You never give up do you?” Whole Wheat Schmidt! This comment from you.

Thank Heavens Serenster never gives up or name changes. One of the most credible voices of reason on this board. Always unfailingly polite, intelligent and mature. Never personal. Thank heavens, I say.

ThrwhelsOntHEbuzgoroundandrund · 03/10/2026 17:38

Serenster. You never give up do you?

Now that’s rude.

simpsonthecat · 03/10/2026 17:39

I never said, not once, that it was 'Markle' just on this thread. I was speaking in general which is obvious by my posts.

It’s fine to say but it’s an opinion that is. It widely share. It’s also fine for me to say that.

I wonder if the surname name were something else it would be less upsetting for some. It is possible the name got tarnished by the behavior of Meghan’s family and that’s the real objection.

LipglossAndLies · 03/10/2026 17:43

TheOvertGardener · 03/10/2026 12:11

Hey Folks, @LipglossAndLies says no one has asked me to post here. Is that how you all feel?

Lol talk about misrepresenting what I said.

You wrote "This is a curious post and I don’t know what to say about it." And I quoted this back to you when I said "well noone said you had to say anything". So why make a big thing about not knowing what to say, say nothing then. I never said noone asked you to post here.

Gosh talk about trying to play a victim and misconstrue what was said. End of the day if someone says I don't know what to say, the immediate thought is well say nothing then lol christ making a mountain out of nothing

simpsonthecat · 03/10/2026 17:44

That's interesting. Not for me, I think it's a reasonably attractive surname. As is Middleton, as are most surnames !

CoffeeCantata · 03/10/2026 17:46

The Straw Man argument features a lot on these boards. Pps tell you you’re saying something you’re certainly not (either because they’ve misunderstood, or they’re being wilfully obtuse) and demand you defend a position that you never held in the first place!

Exhausting.

Well its their choice to come back or not you don't get to demand or dictate what someone else should do. Although not surprising this is your attitude as you do love to go on about what other people should do like you get to control them 🙄

Well maybe you should read it as it is VERY relevant to the points you are making .

simpsonthecat · 03/10/2026 17:54

Totally irrelevant AFAIC so I beg to differ

To repeat, do report posts that break TG.

Also rude.

It saddens me to see people resort to being rude when they have no comeback.

But it isn’t unexpected.

How can you decide something isn't relevant to a topic if you haven't read it ? 😂
I don't know why you are going on about and telling me to report threads ? I didn't say anything that relates to that 🤷‍♀️ Bizarre 🤷‍♀️

Totally, totally bizarre response. But what I’ve come to expect. LOL.

Of course it’s reasonable to expect an OP (an OP, not just any poster) to return to the thread THEY themselves started to answer pps’ questions.

One reason I would never start a thread myself is that I couldn’t guarantee to be around enough to honour that.

But the glaringly obvious situation I referred to had the OP abandoning their original very controversial thread and going off to start another!

This is what you yourself would call a lie.

You wrote “Nonone is asking you to say anything so don't lol. ”

I went to edit my post but it was too late. I am not ploughing through a huge thread I am not interested in, even though you want me to. And I am not here to police other posters. Unless it breaks TG or is a direct personal attack to me.

I really think you need to calm down, maybe even lie down.

I don’t think I’m in the habit of “ripping into” anyone, as you so hyperbolically put it. It sounds like the same rage-inflation we see with dear old vitriol and frothing and spitting bile.

I wish to inform you that I’m not in the habit of doing any of these most unsavoury activities, but I am partial to a bit is satire and mockery, in the great British tradition of Gilray, Hogarth, Rowlandson and others…right up to Private Eye and HIGNIFY.

If you have a problem with that the internet may not be for you.

Here you are again trying to tell others people what to do like you control them. No I dont need to lie down and I dont need to calm down. I dont get upset, angry, frustrated or disgusted as you do and as you have said in your past comments that's how you are feeling. Seems like you're projecting your behaviours onto me.
