Kate & The Middletons

I am currently reading Russsll Myers Catherine & William. Enjoying it but one thing that stands out is how the Middletons have never put a foot wrong.
Carole was not from an aristocratic background nor was Michael but they raised their kids not to put a step wrong. Kate also had embarrassing family members (Uncle Gary) but she still invited him to the wedding which was the right thing to do & it nipped the media scandal in the bud & took the wind out of any sails.. Meghan invited none of her extended family or her dad & it caused massive media speculation.
Kate was born for royal life & is a natural. Very proud of our future queen. Her parents did an amazing job.

I did not say that MEGHAN MARKLE was wrong.
I said MARKLE
just MARKLE No Meghan.

Wikipedia call her Markle en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meghan,_Duchess_of_Sussex

thanks for proving my point by calling her "Markle" shows what I meant.

I agree. It is demeaning in my opinion. Even Sarah Ferguson is not called 'Ferguson' by me or anyone that I have noted on here, and she is a pariah in the royal family.

CurlewKate · 30/09/2026 09:13

Does nobody wonder where Ferguson’s money comes from? Or where their daughter’s money come from? Or about their involvement with Epstein?

CurlewKate · 30/09/2026 09:18

Does seem a little odd to call her just Markle-no first name or title. But I suppose her detractors have many worse names for her!

Would love to know this too!

says Meghan Markle

TheOvertGardener · 30/09/2026 12:23

Here she’s Meghan. Offline it’s often necessary to say Meghan Markle or no one knows who you mean. Even then it might be necessary to explain further “King Charles’ son Harry’s wife.”

If any other name or description was used it would result in a big wide eyed, mildly confused “WHO?!”

By no one, I mean my husband. Since he’s the only one this might ever come up with and as you can see neither of them are a common topic of conversation in our household.

Actually I do know—calling someone something other than what they like to be called is a microaggressive way of “putting them in their place” whilst still being able to maintain a faux naïvety that you’ve done nothing wrong.

Edited

Is it a micro aggression to call people “Royalists” and “Monarchists” against their wishes?

Meghan is (checks notes) not a footballer. And once again, she chooses to go by her middle name. Calling someone by their chosen name is really easy; I’m not sure why you find it so difficult.

Message boards are an odd mix of writing styles - I tend to describe well-known women by their first and last names, or just their first names, but well-known men by their surnames (e.g. Macron, Starmer, Trump) as my usual habit - but the latter approach (just using a surname) is perfectly acceptable and complies with the style guides of most media outlets in the UK for both men and women. You personally may not like it, but it is not generally considered impolite.

TheOvertGardener · 30/09/2026 12:43

Grace Kelly. Was that a micro-aggression?

Indeed.
It's not just message boards either. On University Challenge, for example, where the convention seemed to be that it was acceptable to use just a last name for a man but full names for women.
Now you might just as easily hear "Mantel" as "Orwell" as an answer which gives more equality between the sexes I suppose.
I see it too in magazine or newspaper articles. In today's Times, Jenny Riddell-Carpenter is referred to as Riddell-Carpenter.
I still tend to use full names for women, but I'm nearly 60 and perhaps haven't moved sufficiently with the times (or the Times).

For anyone interested in questions around the Middletons and their business practices this article provides a useful starting point:

Thank you @CathyorClaire
Very interesting reading.
Did they change from a “partnership” as they weren’t personally liable and kept their house etc ?

CurlewKate · 30/09/2026 13:00

It would be interesting to see the reaction to the PofW being called Middleton…

Abour as interesting as calling her her lovely children the monkier "cawvids" that you invented @CurlewKate

I don’t even know who called Meghan “Markle” but she was a willing public figure under the name “Meghan Markle”.

This premise that everyone who is annoyed by Harry and Meghan will be apoplectic over any minor perceived slight of William or Catherine is inane.

Clearly plenty buy into it and I think mainly those who do that are jealous of Catherine for some reason. It seems personal actually. Call her Middleton if you like. It was her surname.

The same person @CurlewKate who wants to call our future queen "Middleton" also wanted to name Catherine's children the "cawvids", such silly carry on

Why don't you call her "It's complicated Middleton" ? You've gone halfway there .

I wouldn’t call them any of these names ,
but why is it ok to call H&M and their children silly names. But not the Wales’ ?

One name is adorable and has positive connotations, the other does not.

Really adorable!! It is used by posters who are ripping their parents apart.

And cawvid was coined by a poster who apparently questioned whether their mother had cancer. You seemed ok with that.

TheOvertGardener · 30/09/2026 18:04

The children, by the way, are adorable. I’d be happy if no one including their parents spoke about them publicly. Even happier if they’d stop sharing photos of them on instagram.

You were the one defending name calling.

Where did they do that?
