There are people doing Public roles such as politicians and then there are people who are well known to the public. There may be some cross over in these groups there may not.

HaM are well known publicly. They have no public role.

I sort of understand how H could get on the public speaking circuit but, like other PP's, don't feel this is sustainable. Personally, I struggle to listen to him for 2 minutes yet alone 20, 30, 40 or however long an after dinner speech takes

But the thing that shocked me most from your replies was that M might ask for expenses for her clothes! Really!? So, it was OK for her to wear ripped jeans for her 1st appearance with PH at the Invictus Games (my DM still hasn't recovered from this!) But she now wants/expects charities to pay for the outfit she wears when she visits them?

I think, if donors to charities connected with her found out this was happening, they would withdraw their support. So surely the charities would be shooting themselves in the foot, so to speak?

I don't want to derail this thread as this seems like quite a big topic to me so I will leave it there . . .

I guess people who are famous because they previously did a public role eg former prime ministers get different security from people who are famous because they commercially chose that?

I guess H's argument is he's famous because he previously did a public role so shouldn't just be treated as any other famous person would be?

Obviously H&M overreacting and experiencing another perceived personal slight - the pomposity of ‘public figure’ is irrelevant also in this context - basically saying ‘no recourse to public funds, time, resources’ - As Ever.

The Meghan can do a quick tidy up before education welfare officers come round for a support visit wanting an explanation as to why their children are absent from an education setting 🫠

Because, as has been said in these threads quite a lot, PMs have access to important state information (like nuclear codes, for one).
Knowing whether someone is circumcised or not, for example, is less important to national security.
Poets Laureate, it could be argued, did a public role. Still different from being PM.
