The more I read the more I think Meghan won’t last 3 months back in the U.K.

And now the Labour government gets to facilitate Harry bringing the Israeli IDF into Birmingham, the absolute loons, while its foreign secretary castigates Israel.

And will give him a platform - not just IG but other events they'll invite him to attend - to feed the "rival court" narrative and undermine the working royals.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Today 16:50

I really hope the soft-minded people with short memories will not rally round them. I cannot bear to see nastiness, spite and lying rewarded
W & C's courage and resilience is what should be rewarded

I agree with you, @CoffeeCantata, but with those for whom "identity politics" is all that matters, someone with a newsworthy tale to tell will always win out over others who prefer a bit of dignity

Luckily these things are cyclical and those who care about "identity" easily distracted, so when they scamper on to something else it's often seen that saying less was the better choice

Though I don't support a monarchy even I can see the things they do get right, and without doubt they've taken the right approach with H&M ... at least so far

But I'm braced for the press to start pitting them against each other. Apparently the loathsome Liz Jones wrote a piece saying she was glad HAM were back because she was bored with W and C. I can see a lot more of that rubbish coming because it sells newspapers.

I saw a clip of Nina Mishkov (?) on GB news gushing about how in love Harry and Meghan are and claiming William and Catherine are not and she says she wants Harry to be King Henry the ninth, the presenter had to step in and say that W&C very much loved one another, so yes I agree, in the media it’s going to be all out war, how many years are we going to have to put up with this? It’s going to be relentless, until William is King anyway.

At the end of the day, what the fuck has it all been for? So depressing. I wish they’d just stay on the other side of the pond ffs!

Or it is all a dead cat.

They know they won't get the security, so later next week they say they can't return because the country won't keep them safe- KC is so relieved he personally pays for their US security.

The Kimg spends most free weekends at Highgrove.
It’s the home he loves the most- and Birkhall on the Balmoral estate.

And Highgrove belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall (ie William), so no chance they'll be living there 😂

Agree. I cannot see a world in which Meg can hack it here. I don’t believe even if she does come, it will be full time.

She couldn’t hack it when she was a royal with all the trappings and a deferential press.

Rem that she was suicidal because they were talking about her holding her bump all the time. That’s what got her so upset!!!!! That literally, was the worst of what they wrote.

Since Megxit, THATS when the damning stories came out about the wedding etc. Even then, the stories here have been pretty tame and nothing like the articles in the US (Hollywood Reporter, Vanity Fair etc)

So how can she hack it with no royal fan fair, no blues and twos, and a pissed off press….and shitty weather!

MrsLeonFarrell · Today 17:07

Nice little dig at William in that article. I'm sure if William behaved like Harry we'd be told he wasn't serious enough to be the Heir.

BigWillyLittleTodger · Today 17:10

So what goes wrong in some people's minds that they support the HAMs against the people they've been cruel and malicious to? A simple-minded way of putting it, but it just seems so perverse to me.

I’ve said before one here but certain so called republicans champion and fawn over the HAMs they think they are going to bring down the monarchy, they don’t see, or want to see that the HAMs absolutely believe in the monarchy, they just want to be at the top of it, and honestly I don’t believe these types are republicans at all, they just want their hero’s on the throne. There is also a certain demographic who for whatever reason see Meghan as one of them, she married a Prince! maybe one day their fairytale can come true as well, they live vicariously through her so they will never see any wrong in her because in their eyes she is them. Then you just get people like NM and LJ who probably just get a thrill and a paycheque for being nasty. There are others who hate the UK and everything it stands for and the HAMs with their claims of racism, victimhood and “Empire 2.0” have been very useful idiots for them to disparage our country.

Is Nina Myscow (?) still around? I'm old enough to remember her being a bitchy TV critic a la Simon Cowell before Simon Cowell was heard of. Not sure we need more of her wisdom. And Liz Jones is an 18 carat idiot.

Nina Moscow! 😂 I’ve not seen her on tv for years though it looks like she’s a commentator on GB news these days.

IF the children are going to the same school as the Tindall children I would imagine the Tindalls are mightily pissed off.

They probably try to keep their kids as normal and low key as possible, and now suddenly their cousins who are part of an international circus arrive at their school bringing attention to them as well.
And what do the Tindall kids do at school around these newly arrived estranged cousins? It's going to be awkward for the kids: we saw your granddad at Christmas why weren't you there? We've been on holiday in scotland with your other cousins you've never met, but you couldnt come because our parents dont talk to your parents etc etc?

Feels like unecessarily dragging the Tindall kids into complex family dynamcs.

I really don't think that any school with the kind of standing to attract royal-adjacent children would ever let such a situation arise. I don't believe such a school would blindside the Tindalls.

Rhaidimiddim · Today 17:27

BreadInCaptivity · Today 16:04

You may be right. Happy to stand corrected but I don’t think we will see both HAM and WAC at the walk from church or being in each others orbit at Xmas in any capacity.

I agree.

I think W&C will want to keep their children as far away from HAM and the hamlets as possible, so that M can't go back to Cali telling tales of the nasty, racist things George and Charlotte and Louis said to her kids when they were together at Balmoral or Sandringham.

Charles is going to reap what he has sown for the rest of his reign, sadly.

She will last as long as it takes to get a documentary in the can to shill to Netflix is my prediction, plus potentially beyond that if they can leverage other benefits to being here, such as security cost savings which may well give them the cushion they need to hold onto their other bases in Montecito and (possibly) Portugal.

I can imagine them considering themselves (to be fair like other Royals re: regular spells between multiple homes) spending time at their uk home base during term time then de-camping to the US/Portugal at other times.

Thanks, Puzzled.

Yes, it's something which should apply across the board of political opinion: decent versus nasty behaviour. The RF might be privileged but the fight was very uneven when M & H attacked them in such an underhand and damaging way.

I will always feel sorry for Catherine who bore the brunt of the racism claims and I think has had an awful few years.

To me it comes down to: are you taken in by superficial, narcissistic manipulation or do you value more boring but worthy qualities? I'm definitely in the second camp!

The fact that M has fallen out with pretty much everyone in her family and among her 'friends' since the wedding speaks volumes to me.

The way to do Christmas is to give them lock them up in the cottage on the estate that used to be made available for Sarah Ferguson so that she could see the children at Christmas.
Invite the children over for a private children’s tea party. Which won’t include the Wales children as the Wales’s will be at the Middletons.

They can come to Church and say their general confession “I have done those things I ought not to have done and I have left undone those things I ought to have done”. Walk back.
Send some cold turkey over with a flunky.
And send them packing.

Exactly this. If nothing else, the RF and the MIGS are experts in this area.

This is what I don’t get, their super supporters claim how awful the British press were to her while she was a royal so they had to flee for their lives! yet she was never hounded, stalked or chased like Diana, Sarah and Catherine, hell Meghan had to stomp around Kensington in her hunter wellies to try and get a little bit of attention. There was absolutely nothing in the press that would drive anyone to leave the country, performative bump holding, avocados and a row about tights and tiaras doesn’t cut it, not that they ever wanted to leave anyway, it’s just an urban myth their supporters like to believe despite the HAMs own statement.

Sadly nice guys don’t win. And most people seem to have no memory and no critical thinking ability. If they see constant pictures/instas/whatever of Meghan swanning around in innumerable new outfits at glam spots, and Harry being Mr Fun Clown of the People - then H&M will have achieved Project Back in Britain. Any nfi events of the rf will just result in rf looking mean to H&M and worse A&L.

How much are these ‘journalists’ being paid? How ever much it is, it’s too much. They are all being played (again).

Harry and Meghan have a long tradition of aspirational PR by attempting to "manifest" their wants by dropping it into the ear of a friendly journalist on the WhatsApp group and hoping that the invitation (or whatever they want) will materialise.

They don’t have a very high success rate but here are some of the previous attempts.

  • Presenting an Oscar (had to hastily arrange the 2 day Moroccan tour to cover the £90,000 she'd already spent on that Dior abomination to wear to the Oscars)
  • Obama 60th party - not invited
  • Meghan's 40th Party full of celebrities - idea dropped and replaced with that mocking tea video
  • 40x40 - flopped and never spoken of again
  • Christmas with the royals at Sandringham/Earl Spencer at Althorp etc
  • Summer at Balmoral
  • Met Gala - never invited
  • Face of Dior - denied
  • A list actress
  • Collaborating with the Kardashians - didn't happen
  • Bezos wedding (not invited but claimed to be unavailable)
  • Duke of Westminster wedding - not invited
  • Trooping the Colour - not invited
  • Lunch with Michelle Obama (denied)
  • Oscars after parties - Vanity Fair/Elton John - not invited
  • Meghan to get Dianne Feinstein's Senate seat
  • Peter Phillips’ wedding - not invited
  • Meghan at the Coronation (she even added it to her IMDB page as a "forthcoming appearance in a TV special 😂" ... the Queen's funeral is still on her IMDB)
  • Collaboration with Balenciaga - denied
  • Archewell Foundation - flopped only a few donations and shut down last December - unclear where the $ millions have gone
  • Sentebale - flounced and now being sued
  • Invictus - hanging on by a thread with few sponsors
  • Family photos with the King published - private photos only
  • In talks with Guy Richie for a role in The Gentlemen - denied

etc etc

I don’t agree. I think a lot of people in the UK especially will have long memories re: HAM’s behaviour in respect of criticism of the UK and H’s family (especially in the context of HMQ and PP when they were both very elderly and unwell).

Yes HAM have a core of very vocal and “enthusiastic” support predominantly on SM but the majority of the British public don’t give a fig about them - apart from when they are expecting to fund their security.

If they do another documentary (as I suspect they will) I think it will be more of the same self centred whinging about why they haven’t been welcomed back with open arms and wallets and that will piss people off further.

On the other hand they may surprise me and not demonstrate the hubris that has defined them to date: but it’s not looking good so far, with blindsiding KC about their return (and I do believe they didn’t tell him, it’s classic HAM as per Megxit on repeat) and the demands for security already.

Re Royal events:

The King has been clear since accession that appearing on the balcony with the family is for working royals only.

As far as I recollect, Trooping and Remembrance Sunday were always events for working royals.

The Sandringham walk at Christmas and walking to St George's Chapel at Easter are family events, not formal working events.
Presumably family members are there by invitation of the monarch. If so, a decision can be made at the time whether or not to invite them.

AcrossthePond55 · Today 18:11

So I'm sitting back here in Cali getting ready to wave bye bye to 2 wastes of air.

Take this for what it's worth but I know 'someone in the entertainment field' who told me months ago that California had apparently been a 'big disappointment' for HAM. Sure, they were originally welcomed with open arms, but the 'top tier of entertainment society' (TToES) that they expected to be a part of faded away after they realized that either they weren't going to make money off of HAM and/or that HAM had a very different idea of 'who they were and where they belonged' than the TToES did. TToES may like royalty, but they aren't going to treat them 'as royalty' IYSWIM. Your place in the TToES is pretty much based on your 'numbers', not who your forebears are. So HAM were pretty much in the B and C crowd, not the A list.

So my opinion is that they feel that returning to the UK, where there is a monarchy & a peerage, will put them back in the 'top tier' merely because of H's 'rank'. But again, I'm an American so what do I know about that.

I do think that KC is taking a 'wait and see' attitude when it comes to their involvement with the RF's 'get togethers'. So Xmas, Oct at Balmoral, and the like will evolve as time goes on. But I do think it'll be minimal and as much as possible be 'private' and not involve W&C. I expect this Xmas will be one that they 'choose to spend with Catherine's family' if there is any hint that HAM will appear in any way. Maybe it's time that that decades old tradition is ended. KC wants a slimmed down and more 'budget conscious' monarchy, so perhaps 'command attendance' at Sandringham for Xmas should be the first to go. I'm sure there are quite a few members of the RF that would be happy to see that end so they can spend the time with their own extended families.

PS, if HAM aren't invited I expect them to say they want to 'spend Xmas with Doria'.

That's a useful reminder @bluegreygreen. The one difficulty is that I'd see it as hard to invite them to the church walk and not then to Christmas itself at Sandringham. And I am guessing that if they are invited for Christmas then the Waleses won't go.
