I wonder how many threads we will get through before their return.

How can they be stopped from attending the Sandringham walk about now.

It will certainly up the ante on their involvement in family occasions.
Will they go to the carol service? Ascot? Weddings? Christmas?
Being out of the country provided a good cover for non attendance at family things. That will be gone, and their non involvement painfully stark if they are not included.

I saw this video of the California house on twitter that I hadn't seen before.
It stuck me how enormous and empty it must have felt for them. Games rooms, guest house, tea house, wine cellar etc etc . Made me think of that video of Harry watching sports in that empty cold looking screen room.
Life must have been very odd and empty in that enormous house.
But the gardens and grounds are gorgeous 😍.

I can’t understand how Megs is allowing the kids to live in the UK. She had an enormous advantage in the inevitable future custody battle with them settled in the USA.

All that I can think of is that she has been paid off to let them return to the UK. Maybe a 6 month settling in and then she will leave for Cali with her big cheque.

Wiglio · Yesterday 08:21

AtIusvue · Yesterday 06:41

There must be huge money issues but I’m also getting vibes that this is the end for Harry and Meg.

She will hate it here, like last time- (to the point she didn’t want to live anymore) and now he’s bringing her back to that? I can see a divorce in the near future…it’s clear the kids will remain here

Edited

Agreed, when she sees the Sentebale coverage and the DM stories about Harry after the costs for the ANL case are made public she’ll be outta here like a stabbed rat.
’Bye.

I can’t understand why either unless it’s that H has given her an ultimatum or bribe.
After all the drama she’s generated about the Uk and the royal family, the lies and the hyperbole, all I can say is that she’s got a nerve coming back here to live.

NewAchievement · Yesterday 08:30

I think there’s a lot of reasons why they’ve made the decision to return

  1. Visa You can’t badmouth the President of the United States and not expect repercussions! Especially from him!!

  2. Financial They can’t afford that mansion and have no money coming in. When the costs of the courts case are released, we will get the sad sad story of them having to sell it because of the costs of the case. Again … you can’t bad mouth a judge and the English justice system, and not expect repercussion!!

  3. Ingriftus That story has to break soon. Why it’s so expensive, how much actually went into Harry’s pocket. He needs to be in the UK to soften that story.

  4. Royal Connections That’s all they have to sell their “brand” and a cup of tea and cake once a year with the King doesn’t a brand make!

  5. The Kings Health They need to be settled back here before PW ascends the throne. It will be easier to manipulate his enabler father, than an angry brother.

However while I think Harry will be ok if he keeps his head down and shuts the fuck up (almost impossible) but if he does the MiG will work their magic on PR and within a decade he will be forgiven. Look what they did for Camilla!!

But none of the UK public, not matter what spin, would be able to forgive Meghan.

And as for UK A list celebrities! Who’s going to want them in their circles? The Beckhams, haha I think not! The guy who now has a farm (can’t remember his name, has cancer), no one but no one is going to want that toxic couple near them! And the only royals would be the Yorks! And that doesn’t bode well.

it’s such a mess and won’t end well. Also, as many PP have pointed it, this soap drama is ok to watch from a couple of thousand miles away but on our doorstep? NO THANK YOU!

I genuinely feel sorry for those poor kids. Yanked out of school to go to an alien culture with no family support. Awful.

I imagine there will be whispers to charities etc from the MiG to keep HaM away.

Serenster · Yesterday 08:36

It’s such an about-turn in the face of so many public announcements, and so chaotically timed, that there must be some driver behind the scenes that we can only speculate about. NewAchievement’s list above covers most of them - another possibility is the soft launch of an eventual separation I guess? Who knows. We will just have to wait and see.

But what a way to grab the global news headlines, I guess.

Also, it's clear this isn't about the children. Again they're used as a smoke screen for HAM to do what they want.
The children were already in good private schools. They don't need to move.
It might be about the children if they were focused on building relationships with their family but HAM seem incapable of doing this.

I anticipate those children are going to be dragged from pillar to post, disoriented about where they belong, why they are estranged from their wider families, confused about the history and differing accounts, and pawns in their parents never ending psychodramas.
It's really not good for those kids all this.

I imagine a nanny change is on the books too, as presumably they had employed a USA citizen / California local nanny. They may be happy to come over and help smooth the move but will they want to stay? Won't there be visa issues - I don't really know how it works for these types of international families who take their domestic staff everywhere with them.

Talking of domestic staff - I wonder how many cleaners and gardeners have been handed the USA equivalent of a P45?

How can they be stopped from attending the Sandringham walk about now.

Only yesterday I was posting about the dilemma an invitation to Sandringham would present to Meghan what with a choice between the ultimate Royal adjacency and having to let the children be photographed by the press. 😅

binkie163 · Yesterday 08:55

I am stunned at h saying he wants to be closer to and spend more time with his family, like it is his decision! Other than his dad I doubt any others want to be within 10 miles of him.
If hams are invited to the family gatherings others may make their excuses, all have other places to be. William is not going to allow hamlets near his kids.
There is no going back to his old life, it's gone. His old friends that he dropped will have moved on and won't want his bullshit round them, it's one thing getting pissed and stoned in your 20's but they are middle aged now. His Eaton contacts will all have successful businesses or running the family estate.
His army pals won't want him due to his disloyalty.
I don't think m will care if people don't like her, she has never nurtured friendships. She lives in her imaginary head of being a world leader! I think having no friends will hit h hard but that's what happens when you shit on people.

Edited to say: I'm betting the friendship with mark Dwyer will be in the shitter after sentabale.

BasiliskStare · Yesterday 09:16

I think one other reason for the move apart from all the good ones previously mentioned is this (and apologies if it's been said & I missed it.)
I think at least part of this is what passes in H's mind for strategic thinking. If the Hamlets go to a British school and he can kindle relationships with others in the RF then the children might (in his mind) , not H&M , the Hamlets, will have a shot at being working royals. Of course this ignores the W factor. However, I think this is H&M's way - keep telling people what you want is so and it will become so.

ETA somewhat of a cross post with @Thedom

Thedom · Yesterday 09:16

I do tend to think it’s all about getting the kids back in the Royal fold as they navigate going their separate ways, that would never have happened if they split up and stayed living separately in the US.

‘They are a laughing stock all over again, on both sides of the Atlantic, The Cut are currently promoting the infamous interview.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · Yesterday 09:33

Just when you think the hypocrisy can’t get any worse!

Do they completely wipe what they have said about life in the UK, their family, the law, the press, security etc from their tiny minds once they have said it?

There is a psychiatric term “folie a deux” which suits these two exactly.

Thedom · Yesterday 09:37

Omg, I laughed out loud at this comment

Harry: "They won't stop until she dies."

Also Harry: "Whooooo! Headin' home!"

HoldMyWine · Yesterday 09:46

The hypocrisy is off the scale, I would love to see them interviewed forensically and asked to account for every lie they have told.
There is only one reason they are back and that’s because the money has run out. H is going to have to pay out bid money to ANL and likely to sentebale.
my thought ( and hope) is KC is bailing them out with strict restrictions on them, the main one being they keep their mouths shut and heads down.

Agree. But do we think M can manage that?

Maybe Charles will give Meg Duchy Originals to run so she can continue on her mission to sell jam
and Meg will finally achieve the success she has been searching for in jam spreads.

I wonder if something was said between H and KC when they had their brief meeting last month.

Maybe H asked for money, KC said “ok but there are conditions attached, eg you move back here”, H said “absolutely no way”.

H reports convo back to M, they have a week long argument before concluding it’s the only way they can survive financially. Not wanting to lose face with KC, they put the arrangements in place before telling him, and spin it somehow as “Dad, we’ve got a surprise for you …”.

Obviously pure speculation but there’s got to be a very good reason for them coming back. They may have hides like rhinos, but even they must realise they’re not popular here. Even they must remember all the reasons they gave for finding life here completely unbearable. Even they must realise that this decision makes a mockery of their freedom flight (what’s the reverse of one of those by the way?). So what’s happened that makes this the only option?

The other thing that occurs to me, and I hope I’m wrong, is that it’s something to do with KC’s health.

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 10:58

Commenting on a couple of things from the other thread that has just closed as I was posting:

There is an order of precedence but HRH doesn't curtsey to HRH - you don't see the Duchess of Edinburgh curtseying to the Princess of Wales.

I think the reason we didn't see Meghan and the children during the visit in July was that they were looking at schools.

Starryfifty · Yesterday 10:59

Clever move on their part. KC is an ailing king. They had to move before he passes

An open return?

When were they here in July? I can’t remember. If it was right at the beginning then maybe, but private schools are closed from fairly early in July. I doubt they would be opened up just for them to have a viewing. And you wouldn’t get much idea of how the classes feel. I doubt they were that organised anyway. This smacks of panic at having to pay a large legal bill to me

That's a good point, I do not believe they visited before term end- this has not been planned and thought out.

If I was a betting person, I would bet the main reason is the results of ANL
