Thanks, @OrangeBlossomsinthesun; I don't have much faith in the BBC either, but at least it's some sort of indication

One might ask , if Harry was paying for his own private security in the US , why not just do it here instead

A fair point, @BasiliskStare, except we don't actually know whether Harry's being paying for security in the US or if daddy has

As for Harry "having regrets", I can quite see he's sorry that the US sojourn has been a disaster, but very much doubt he recognises his own part in that - or indeed in anything else

Im confused by the security issue. Does he want the same round the clock security that wlliam has, which is only afforded to working royals? What is his argument for this? If that's the case, surely Zara p can demand it ???

Agreed.

H returning, non-working then I'm not sure what the thinking is in the HAM camp. Even if by some miracle he came back as a working Royal he won't get what W gets.

If H thinks he needs more because of his deeds in Afghanistan then maybe he needs to consider whether it was wise of him to blow his own Persec (Personal Security) on some of what he claims he did there in the Spare book.

In fact if you really want to get into tinfoil hat territory was that revelation done deliberately with all this in mind?....I guess best not go there....

So true, I'm afraid my tongue was firmly anchored in my cheek, I doubt she could find him herself!

The woman is mercenary. She'll spit Harry out eventually. If she can't find an ageing billionaire, it will be tell all interview to the highest bidder. My life with a drug addled Prince. The RF refused to help him blah blah . That's why this pair and hamlets need be kept well away from RF

Harry is setting himself up for reinforcement of his " Spare" feelings. He's the boy looking in the window at the family inside. Let's be honest - who would you rather be chummy with - the future King or a hypocritical liar? It's not a difficult choice. They will reap what they have sown. They have shown themselves to be devious, to pick up and drop people. They have the knack of "Markling" people. He seems to think " I know . I will go back to the UK and everyone will forget and I can be a Prince properly but - no I don't want to do any duties, just have the title. And protection. And money" . I would bet too that the press are not going to show them any mercy.

It's very much Déjà vu isn't it? He has learned absolutely nothing

I didn’t think I could dislike him more than l do.
I was wrong.
If he gets full time taxpayer funded PPO I will give up and become a republican.
Im just so sick of him , his behaviour and his demands on the public purse.

Absolutely. H arrogantly dropped a few friends because of M when they first got married. Why would anyone choose him over W? The royals have also managed perfectly well without him and seem to all get along really well socially. Why upset the apple cart? I expect to see lots of articles about hurty feelings and victimhood.

Nah it’s not the Waleses fault the Sussexes are back. Blame the enabling father and grandmother perhaps…

MrsLeonFarrell · Today 08:38

Catching up.

I don't want to live in a country where the monarch or Prime Minister can stop a private individual from going anywhere or saying anything political. The Biden story proves what I've been banging on about for sometime, that no one with actual power thinks that the Sussexes represent anyone beyond themselves and that politicians will never give attention to Sussex celebrities at the expense of their relationship with the UK and the monarchy.

There is no need for dramatic interventions, a quiet statement, as was released by the Foreign Office when they went to Nigeria, reminding countries of their status is all that is needed if the government thinks there may be confusion. Harry visits Ukraine to represent Invictus not the UK, that's clear.

Calls for him to be silenced or restricted in some way inflate his importance. He is less influential than Angelina Jolie on the world stage and those who operate at that level recognise this.

Clarifying an earlier post of mine. I wasn't advocating for what you describe here @MrsLeonFarrell . I'd said

Then Charles is going to have to tell Andy straight that he should bar anyone in government from speaking to Harry or getting involved with any of his plans.

That doesn't stop Harry taking any initiatives of his own or making his own arrangements to visit whatever overseas destination. As a private individual he should of course be free to organise that and fund it himself, just as various British people have when they've, for example, driven lorries to Ukraine with donations. However, they shouldn't be government supported, endorsed, or enabled. No more photos with the likes of Yvette Cooper (what was she thinking?) Harry seems to imagine he's such an asset that he can piggyback on government activity, and also that he can criticise the MIGS and British institutions relentlessly for years, yet still expect them to organise his life for him when he decides it's time to come home.

@bluegreygreen you'd posted agreeing with @MrsLeonFarrell and adding 'people seem to have no idea what they're asking for'. In case that referred to my post, that's why I wanted to clarify what I was asking for: no government enablement.

My2cents1975 · Today 14:36

At the end of the day, the monarchy will roll forward. The UK has far bigger fish to fry...PM Andy needs to get a grip on the rising gilt yield. Somehow the UK has to rearm to face Russian aggression...as everybody is rearming at the same time driving up costs further. But national security has to come first...having a Russian Iskander missile slam into Picadilly Circus would be a bad thing.

HaM are journalistic junk food. Media/social media is delighted beyond words at torrent of briefings. Content, content and more content.

I feel for A&L, stuck with reckless parents who weaponise all relationships. I cannot see a good outcome from HaM feeding the media beast.

I agree that appearing with Government officials is not helpful, although celebrities who get involved with campaigns do it all the time. The problem for Harry is that he has changed status so there needs to be very clear comms around his participation in events.

Having said that it for the government to intervene, not the monarch. If Harry is interfering politically then the political part of the establishment should be the ones to reign him in. This where I feel constitutional monarchy needs a bit of work. The checks and balances don't work if politicians are going to defer to the monarch even if that monarch is wrong (the AMW debacle) or pose for group photos with a minor royal who is making political statements (Harry).

Harry can, and will, say whatever he wants, but the establishment need to avoid any hint of official status or approval.

I put it down to clickbait at the time, Starryfifty, but IF there's any truth in the story about Meghan's people approaching publishers about a post-divorce book, what you said may already be happening

And even if it isn't, I can't imagine the story will have done much for Harry's state of mind

If his father had been paying for his private security in the US and that same security company was the one writing the report on Harry’s threat level, could it be seen that C 3 was influencing RAVEC. Obviously not saying he is just speculating. Personally I think H is paying for his own security or I don’t think he’d be so invested in passing the cost on to us.

Am sure he can logically see that Anne, Edward, Sophie etc only got security when they were on royal duties even when they were children of a monarch but he will try to claim that he still needs security for his family because:

  1. he was in Afghanistan - yes but the details of what he did came in his own book. Perhaps he should have taken personal responsibility for his own safety and not revealed that???
  2. he and Meghan are the least liked members of the family other than AMW - yes but that is because of their own actions. Again they should have taken personal responsibility in how the public perceived them.

If MI5 detect an actual threat to the Sussexes then no doubt security will be provided until the threat has passed. But 24/7 security for a non working royal who takes no personal responsibility for his safety? No.

They never clapped back either. I 100 💯 believe a post divorce book is inevitable and will destroy H

I don't know the answer to that, @KittyTinker, but am quite sure any enquiries around the subject would be squashed very quickly, almost certainly with a few more "He didn't know" claims

CoffeeCantata · Today 14:48

I have been plunged into abject misery at this news. Just been to the supermarket and nearly every paper and magazine has THEM or Meghan on it. At least they were several thousand miles away in California. Now they’ll be competing with poor William and Catherine for attention and the press will lap it up…and I’m sure, actually feed the whole rivalry narrative. If I find they’re even on the BBC News app every day that will be insufferable.

Please tell me it’s just a bad dream.😢

GoodnessGraciousMeh · Today 14:49

The DM is claiming that Harry is whining 'privately' to the Home Secretary about lack of tax payer funded security. It is beyond belief that he doesn't see the absolute crassness of this behaviour.

My2cents1975 · Today 14:49

If the government is too lily-livered to stand up to H, they always can hire Sophie Chandauka to say no. She can also be seconded temporarily to the MIGS (WAMIGS - women and men in grey suits?) to simply say no. It would certainly be cheaper!

Given that, H wrote about killing his father in Spare, the UK taxpayer can offer accommodation in the Tower of London. Let H be a tourist attraction to earn back what it cost the Home Office to defend itself against baseless lawsuits!

And on that note - off to the garden now the rain has stopped!

bluegreygreen · Today 14:49

@PullTheBricksDown I hadn't been thinking about your post. I was thinking more of the multiple posters I'd seen over the last few days insisting that Charles should have banned Harry from returning to the UK.

I agree with you that the Sussexes 'shouldn't be government supported, endorsed, or enabled'. However, the links are very close, as I've said previously (I think on this thread):
Sussexes / Archewell / CCDH / Morgan McSweeney / Labour
(Ideologically, James Holt and the Lib Dems are in there too, of course.)

I agree with @MrsLeonFarrell (again) that we need clarity in communication, and that it should be from the government rather than the RF when the opportunity arises. I suspect it won't happen.

The best thing would be for HAM and HAMlets to have their titles removed and then they can live private lives .

Tina Brown on X is stating the role for The Gentlemen isn’t going ahead now!

Yeh, it never was! Liam was laughing his ass off at the press falling for this crap, which helped him disguise the bad news that Harry owes millions….and millions.

Why the hell does the Telegraph, The sun, The BBC and The Guardian keep printing this stuff without bloody doing some journalism first….they might as well just let Liam write their headlines for them. It’s ridiculous

PullTheBricksDown · Today 14:51

BillyBites · Today 13:56

So, Harry pestered Ravec back in July about security but neglected to tell them his plan for returning to the UK full-time?
Wasted their time, in other words?
Unless, of course, he had no idea at that point that he would be doing this (despite it apparently being planned for months).
Does he think we’re stupid?

I can see the argument for him saying a new review is needed, given that his bespoke arrangement was mainly based on a model where he lived in the USA and came here on occasion for visits. However, what's the saying about 'Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part'? Shabana Mahmood is a busy person, and given that HAM and the Hamlets were here very recently and managed fine without the level of security he claims he needs, his pleading for everyone to hurry up and attend to what he wants can be ignored. Join the queue like a private citizen, Harry.

AtIusvue · Today 14:52

What does that mean for the family now? Because we were told that’s the reason why they were bloody moving over here.

They can’t even keep this crap going for 24hrs
