They don't believe in giving their family much notice, do they?
King Charles was only informed by his son on Sunday that he plans to move back to the UK later this month

Taken from the last thread but I don't necessarily believe this, @bluegreygreen

I've said all along that Charles will do whatever he wishes regardless of advice, family and public opinion or anything else, and since the RF have quite rightly kept schtum we've no way of knowing whether this has been planned for a while

I do agree though that this would be a good time for a statement - not that it would count for much, since if they then decided to do something else that too would no doubt be spun

It’s now being reported that the PM has said he wishes H&M well on their return to the UK, but that their security is a private matter. So no special protection

Well thank god for that.

I do think a statement is needed. A lot of spin around them having royal roles, security etc

Hopefully they might get Lilibet some shoes in time for the UK winter...

Well thank god for that.

So does this mean they’re not automatically entitled to security just because they’ll be back living in the UK?

Do they have to be working members of the RF to have it?

Starryfifty · Yesterday 13:42

we all know they returning because California has been an utter disaster but will be interesting to see what their spin is

As I said upthread, working members of the RF only have police security on official duty, apart from the King and Queen and the Wales family.

Agree.

Thank you. I was a bit confused despite all the mentions of it over our 29 threads.

I’m extremely surprised and entertained that the bbc news this morning has been reporting that they are coming back etc…then running the interview he did with them after the security case failed….🤣

I think though if this wasn't a snap decision, one that's been made for necessity rather than choice, we'd have seen a lot more spin in the last few weeks from HAM as they got ready to do it.

Eg. Rather than M was humiliated at the restrictions, we'd have had gushing "leaks" at how delighted they were to be taking their part in a wonderful family and how they felt they were needed, so hard for them to keep away ( anyone can add "like a hole in the head at that point") They'd have been trying to love bomb KC and the UK.

It's also uncharacteristic for them not to leak, don't think they could have sat on that for a month.

I suspect they've been both dashing round to try and find someone that will pay their legal bills and hoping they won't be asked for much over insurance. That hope has run out so they have little option.

I can't see it is in Burnham's interest to be seen to be paying towards a wealthy prince. It also affects their Republican narrative with them coming back.

The only thing I can say about them is their absolute gall astounds me. I could do with some of it.

Recklessismymiddlename · Yesterday 14:03

@Starryfifty i hasn’t thought about Kate having to suck it up. But if Meghan does end up here, then things must be bad.

Andy Burnham: It's a private matter

Sky News: Andy Burnham

All security is private, we know which royals get 24/7 security but apart from that no one ever comments on individual security arrangements (except Harry). Any one can be assessed as needing security, Salman Rushdie for example, is available to anyone who meets the required that level. The PM is never going to comment on security, regardless of whether Harry gets it or not.

Personally I think he won't receive security, unless the threat level changes. If he had any sense at all (not a given) then he would try to keep his house and the kids schools private. This of course assumes he's not going to try to leverage that information to force security provision. The papers won't print that sort of thing but social media isn't as careful.

So presume M going to try to pivot AsEver to full on Cotswold trad wife? So predictable.

he’ll continue to pretend he is still a working royal “because invictus”

And well have the spectacle of them at Christmas in Sandringham

I really do feel for the Wales with this pair of grifters.

They have some gall. It's astonishing

I don't think it's possible to generalise about overseas moves. My husband and I both moved internationally as children. His moves were for job related reasons and they were well planned out by engaged parents who provided a stable family unit and ensured educational continuity in English language schools. He is largely unaffected, although he misses some of his friends who live overseas. My moves were chaotic and based on parental whim. One was thrown together within a few weeks and my mother put me into schools where I couldn't speak the language. Unsurprisingly I'm much more affected. We agree the international background drew us together.

I agree with this. Moving schools frequently can be a risk factor for many things, but if carefully managed by stable parents who understand and prioritise the children it needn't equal difficulties.
In this case however we already see these are not stable adults likely to prioritise their children, who have already experienced disorientating narratives about their families. And they are still young and I suspect there is lots more confusing change for them to live through.
HAM themselves are saying its just temporary! So already planning more moves for the children!

Interesting

What does dynamic of the hierarchy mean?? Isn’t hierarchy by definition static? This woman is not very intelligent.

Starryfifty · Yesterday 14:09

Just a musing. If KC gives them Royal roles (which I do think he will) can KW rescind them all when he takes the throne ?

Meghan’s struggles to keep friendships and will end up surrounded by z listers as thirsty as attention for herself.

Harry and Meghan want soap opera drama so serious people will run for the hills

Maybe Meghan's new British bestie will be Katie Price?

Its interesting, if its true, that they're going to go to the same schools as the Tindall children.

I can imagine they've been watching the Tindalls and their kids thinking that's a nice life: private, do what you want, make money, but part of the family. And want to try to create that.

And they could have had that SO EASILY. Just quietly step back. Move to the cotswolds and don't slag the family off. Simple.

But the fact they think they can retrospectively create this is deluded. They can't undo what's been done, and they don't have the strength of character to quietly rebuild trust over time.
They'll want it all to fall into place for them with this new plan immediately and when it doesn't the whining will start again.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · Yesterday 14:16

I don’t believe this is a fast decision either. The press are grumpily accepting this now because they’ve not had leaks about it, but it does show Harry can keep a secret when it suits him. I do think they must have been planning this for a good 6-12 months.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the King has had a hand in this too.

the summer visit may have been a final approval - they were in the UK early July, met the king apparently on 10th July. But most private prep schools broke up for the summer first week of July, so they were here in time for the kids to do visits to their new schools. Plus we know harry has been over a couple of other times. House and school visits may have been done then.

I do think when Meghan isn’t in her “glam” is quite normal/ordinary looking, obviously pretty but not someone who’d stand out, she could easily have been over and visited schools without anyone really noticing. Of course if it does turn out they’ve been popping back and forth without the press being informed or finding out, certain columnists who delight in being on the inside will explode. This could be fun.
