Just imagine if you had fallen out with your remaining parent, slagged them off repeatedly in public then leaked to the press that you were considering apologising. And clearly thinking of issuing a sorry not sorry apology.

It really takes the biscuit.

…..considering an apology….
Quite honestly I would tell them to fcuk off in no uncertain terms.
Dear god these two irritate the hell out of me but it’s like watching a car crash in very slow motion.

That feels like an unnecessarily uncharitable interpretation of Charles' actions. Yes, he was determined to rehabilitate Camilla, but I would imagine that trying to support his sons, especially Harry, who really was a child, would have been his primary motive. And because nobody was probably blunt with Harry's parents about his academic limitations, it would have taken a while for them to play out and to reveal how disastrous Eton really was for him. It must have been very hard to be the thickest boy in the school, and I'm sure he knew it.

I think it's in Tina Brown's Diana book that she is reported to have said that she wanted Harry to go to Eton too, as her brother and father had as well as William, "because otherwise people will think he's a thicko".

But unfair to both of his children -

It it not "kind" to drop a troubled and grieving 14 year old into a hothouse, full boarding school, that he was academically completely unsuited to. Not to mention feeding the jealousy of living in the shadow of his more academic brother - jealousies that had existed since the days of counting sausages in the nursery. It left Harry to struggle rather than allow him to attend a less rigorous school where he could have found activities that let him shine and his own tribe of friends. Another school might have allowed him to pass his A-levels on his own rather than the cheating scandal where his written work being ghost written by a teacher.

It was also unfair to William at 15 to parentify him by expecting him to look after Harry and always include him in his friendship groups. From a young age William had been his mother's confidante to lean on during her troubles - passing the tissues under the door and comforting her. I cannot imagine what the divorce was like for William age 13-15 at Eton with the lurid "War of the Wales" headlines involving tampongate/the Bashir interview with his peers reading the newspapers. At least Harry, at a secluded prep-school, would have been more protected. Yet even after his mother's death there was still an expectation that William look after his envious and increasingly wild brother as a teenager - Harry, who threw tantrums when William chose to study in Scotland and then (25 years later) wrote about William "abandoning" him when he got together with Catherine. Harry, it appears, treats William more like a parent than a brother, and even in his 40s is taking out his anger out on him in his "Saint Mummy/bad William" narrative.

To be fair, most parents get things wrong. I certainly did! I know that being in a setting where you really struggle to keep up has a negative effect on your self esteem and it probably did for H.

Yes. I agree wholeheartedly.

A genuine apology would not need to be “considered” —and leaked— in advance.
Ffs, is there no end to this pair. Why won’t they just go away and be quiet.

Well no , because they provide endless entertainment for so many people !
Re the “ apology” , I thought it was Harry who was demanding one ?

JSMill · Today 14:25

I have this hazy memory of H in an interview, around the time of Spare, demanding an apology from his family and saying ‘you know what you have done’. Does anyone else recall this?

I do think that there was a genuine case for thinking that Harry would be better off being close to home, and at school with his brother. No-one would necessarily have known that he would struggle so much with the academics - thinking here of DS who suddenly switched on at 13, having been a very middling student beforehand!

I also think it's pretty cynical to align the choice of school with Camilla's rehabilitation - I really can't think that a father would have put anything above the wellbeing of his young son, who has just lost his mother. Maybe I'm just being naive!

But it wasn't really "close to home" was it?

Charles didn't live at Windsor in those days - during the week he lived with the Queen Mother at Clarence House and spent his weekends at Highgrove as he started a huge, post-divorce redecoration and renovation project to remove Diana's decorating. Radley would have been much closer for weekends with Charles.

Of course the person unhappy was the one expected to look after Harry. William had been happy to be at Eton by himself - his "sanctuary" where he could be himself and not wanting to look after a difficult younger brother which was clearly the expectation. Then it triggered new jealousy that QEII starting mentoring William to be King over tea at the weekend and William was pressured by both sides - burdens of duties and responsibilities as heir and the envy of a younger brother who thought he should get to do exactly the same as William and was jealous not to be invited.

Just how mealy-mouthed can this pair get? I can’t for one minute imagine it would be a genuine, contrite and honest apology, they’re confirmed liars, can’t be trusted one inch and are clearly only doing it to get $$$$ for their gluttonous lifestyle.
They’re obviously trying to crawl back into Charles’ good books, gloat about how they’re HIHO after all and exploit the situation for as much money as possible.
If this happens then it will show KC to be a fool.

I suspect it will go like this:
HaM: We apologise
KC3: i accept
HaM: And now?
KC3: [the sound of silence]

That potential apology is couched in SUCH pass-agg terms - "the last five years have caused enormous pain". NO. Over the last five years, YOU have caused enormous pain TO YOUR FAMILIES, H&M. Passive voice won't wash here.

(on a purely grammatical level I have always wondered why nobody picked up during Kate's PhotoshopGate incident that her statement doesn't actually say that she doctored THAT photo, just that she has experimented with photoshopping in general)

her statement doesn't actually say that she doctored THAT photo, just that she has experimented with photoshopping in general

It's a lot less complicated and/or humiliating to give a blanket statement that you edit photos. Full stop. No need to go into the minutiae detail of every photo.
It covers all past photos and photos yet to come.
Job done.

Yep but no explanation as to what they did. I assume what they did wrong was to not let the grifters have their half in half out gig

Interesting. Rob S usually reliable

Of course it will be directed at Charles because he currently holds the power and the purse strings.

Here’s my advice, HAM. No need for the apology to the King to be public, make your peace with him in private. But if you’re in the mood for public apologies, address the “racist” British people, y’know, the ones who would be paying for the security you’re after, and make your sincere and humble apology to them.

Wasn’t Harry wanting an apology from the royals when he said during the OW interview that “they know what they did”?

Happy to be corrected, but I think the word he used was "accountability", @Noseyoldcow - though of course that was in the days before Spottify, Netflix and just about everyone else dropped them and he probably still believed they'd be regarded as the Second Coming

Now it must be clear even to Harry that they won't he wants back, but if the RF were stupid enough to allow it they'd just be back in the same position the instant something didn't suit

Scorchio84 · Today 14:59

It really hasn't, it's so sinister in it's tone & his bullshit alas "this could all easily have been avoided.." 😂😂

Edit @Starryfifty (I keep forgetting to tag!)

JSMill · Today 15:01

It always amuses how in their exit statement they were happy to stay in the royal family for half a year and then when they were told no, suddenly H is saying he chose to leave to protect his family and fight for M.

Mylovelygreendress · Today 15:26

I would love to know what their supporters are saying about H and M wanting back . After all they are supposed to be so in love , living their best lives and well on the way to be billionaires.

Yes, and I've always wondered what he was alluding to. I'm pretty sure, although am willing to accept I'm completely making this up and letting my imagination run away with me 😂, it was an objectively "unfair" (by peasant but not royal standards) snubbing or slapping down of Meghan in favour of William and/or Kate, or Charles and/or Camilla. In Harry's mind it will have been "but we're all equal family members and you owe my wife respect like you give Kate respect and doing [whatever they did] was hurtful and rude and you owe her an apology". In reality it will have been "future/current King/Queen get everything because and only because they're the future/current monarchs. You and your wife are there to support the current/future monarchs and this isn't about you". Which, obviously, he's weaponised - with Meghan's encouragement - into "they hate us, they treat us like second class citizens, must be because they're racist" etc etc.

Like I say, I'm completely making this up 😂
