Giles Coren admitting to making up the original tweet (I think the book extract is from Robert Lacey's book, but not certain).

The King knows his reign will be short.
Im certain he, like most men has an ego.
Will he really want his legacy to be AMW and Hopeless, weak, feckless, disloyal Harry?
I don’t think there is a cat in hells chance of him ‘letting H&M’ return.
Without a doubt Camilla is the love of his life - I still like seeing them together and the clearly obvious deep bond they have. I think Camilla is a down to earth, intelligent woman who is the power behind the throne. Harry’s biggest mistake was going for her.

The Wales family are like a tank with a force field of protection - moving forward slowly towards their destiny.
HAM and the SS throwing mud at them means nothing -they keep rolling on. Some of the mud sticks, then it dries and falls off, squashed by the caterpillar track.
William has the full weight of the monarchy, the family, and vitally the public behind them. The public are the force field.
Can you imagine how strong the Wales family will be when William is King & George -who has zero relationship with his uncle- is Prince of Wales?

If William does not extend an invite to HAM to his coronation ( and I see no circumstances under which he would) then that is the final nail in the coffin.
There will be no clearer message sent.
The tank of monarchy keeps on rolling forwards, slowly but always getting there.
Harry needs to remember that tanks have turrets with weapons with the capability of blowing apart houses.

I wonder how Shakespeare (or Marlowe) would have written this saga!
Much ado about nothing 2?
William V?

I didn't know the stuff about M not being at Pippa's wedding.... wouldn't you just love to hear Catherine and Pippa talking about Meghan?!

Pippa had a “No ring no bring” rule so M couldn’t attend the wedding service but was invited for the evening do.
I suspect she rightly guessed her wedding would be hijacked by Harry’s girlfriend so it was a neat way to say no. Carole M was probably on the ball about it too. Well done the Middleton family standing up to H&M.

I can’t recall exactly what happened I think M had to wait in some hotel or somewhere for Harry to come and get her for the evening do and she made sure they got photographed somehow.

ShamedBySiri · 13/08/2026 10:57

AI version of how it happened. I think M might have had ideas of swapping seating but I suspect Carole would have outmanoeuvred her. 😉

I like the analogy of the Wales family as being like a tank.

Even if only about 10% of the stuff we hear about Meghan is true, she still seems to be a really horrible individual. As previously observed, she might be a complete delight, however the public perception is that she isn’t, and perception is everything.

I think Meghan is one of those ‘ KIss up / kick down’ characters, putting on the charm offensive for the Oprah’s and the billionaires, but no respect for those who she feels superior to.

She 💯 is. Her entire family are hideous. She didn't lick it off a stone

Just a quick hello 👋 to @BigWillyLittleTodger - nearing the end of this thread my lovely Big Willy.

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/08/2026 12:09

Re the story about the non-interview of the Sloaney girl, I did have a thought. I'm not a MM fan, but her experience of applying for work was auditioning, which everyone knows is absolutely brutal and impersonal. I am not excusing her behaviour, which was appallingly inconsiderate and unkind, but I do wonder if that is part of it - she decided this young woman didn't look the part and that was it.

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/08/2026 12:10

Honestly, if I could be bothered to devote as much energy and brain space to work as I do to this sort of shit, I would probably be head of the UN or BBC director general or something (but then when would I find the time to post shit on the internet?).

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/08/2026 12:12

The King knows his reign will be shor ... will he really want his legacy to be AMW and Hopeless, weak, feckless, disloyal Harry?

I'm not sure it matters what he wants his legacy to be, @DaisyDooley; among those who forget the undoubted good he did via the Prince's Trust (now the Kings Trust, though still run by others) that's what it will most likely be

It's well understood he's a "caretaker", and if I was a monarchist I'd worry about the consequences if he uses his frequently shown poor judgment to indulge himself with some fairytale about Harry being around for his last days

Remember too that, apart from the fact Harry would probably blab, we can't actually know whether they're in touch behind the scenes, and while W&K may or may not approve (another thing we can't know) I certainly wouldn't expect Charles to let what the little people think stop him

As for the idea of people being angry if he had Harry back ... initially perhaps they would, but a few leaks about his mental 'elf and a coordinated hatchet job on Meghan would soon have the more gullible insisting it was the right thing and that we should all move on

NewAchievement · 13/08/2026 12:21

@StarryfiftyYou know what? I actually feel really really sorry for her family after reading Bower’s book. 2 teenagers with a mum who had problems with drugs and who were left with their workaholic dad.

Then the step mother appears who also has a problem with drugs followed by the appearance of the golden child. Who got a private education, ferried to her father’s work every Friday. And was absolutely adored by her dad.

Then having to read and hear all Meghan’s lies, would drive you insane. I really don’t blame Thomas Jr for writing a letter to Harry warning him, and Samantha publicly claiming Meghan to be a shallow social climber.

Everything they have said about Meghan has subsequently proved to be true. As for Samantha encouraging her father to the staged paparazzi photos. There’s a big back story to that.

I don’t think they are the villains that the H&M pr machine make them out to be. Imagine being in that situation hearing insane lie about Meghan’s childhood and your dad. It would be extremely difficult to keep quiet!

Thedom · 13/08/2026 12:21

David Foster has given a personal statement / explanation to none other than People Magazine, this is excruciatingly embarrassing for all of them..

The video is there for posterity, Meghan was trying to guide him to a spot she deemed appropriate and he wasn’t engaging with her, and in fact looked irritated. Like the Sophie Chandauka polo video, we all have eyes and can see what happened !! David Foster obviously conceded to their pleas to try to change the narrative, more respect to Sophie for not blinking under the same circumstance.

I agree completely, Thedom, but it doesn't help that she lacks either the skills or wit to hide it, and even her (very obvious) constant acting can't hide this

Despite their habit of putting on a show to distract the public when things go wrong I've never thought any of them care what the masses think, but at least they put a better face on it and have some idea of how to behave in public

Yes I think the spin will be his mental health and welcome back H. I really don't know how they will spin Meg though. Maybe H needs her by his side blah blah

StartupRepair · 13/08/2026 12:39

All the factors that they took the freedom flight to escape are still in play: having to defer to Charles and William, having to take advice from MIGS, no-one cleaning mean comments from the internet, being held accountable by the press.
They wouldn't last 6 months.

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/08/2026 12:43

Surely it's the degree of "back" that counts? I can't see any way H, far less M, could ever be a WRF member again. If the reconciliation is purely private then it really is no business of ours - the rubber hits the road if and when public money, assigned to the Crown by Parliament, is used to support HaM.

I think KC has been conditioned by his long years as PoW to consider the need to protect and perpetuate the Crown above all else, and I hope he has the sense to see that he needs PW onside far more than PH.

LatestDM piece from Richard Eden.
These bullying accusations will never sink .
The Palace has ‘buried’ the report which will ‘never see the light of day’.
It must be utterly utterly damning.

Baital · 13/08/2026 12:47

I don't get the impression KC is weak or inadequate. Some of the causes he has taken up - and been ridiculed for - have turned out to be very astute.

I doubt any decent parent would want to be estranged from their child, and I don't see any evidence that KC hasn't done his best for his sons. Probably has made mistakes, but so has every parent.

I don't see this translating into H&M getting back into the RF fold. I see a parent trying to balance clear and healthy boundaries while not giving up.on their child.

AnAutumnCrow · 13/08/2026 12:54

Charles would be well advised to start being seen more with William, and being supportive of William, if he cares about the longevity of the Crown.

He needs to ‘show and tell’ more that the lineage sits far above his personal feelings about individual troublesome family members.

Charles has got a whole heap of reputational trouble heading his way with what he knew and when re his brother A. The organisation Republic has scented blood on that one. (As a mild-mannered republican I don’t like Republic, as explained previously. I don’t want a mean-spirited bunch of idiots representing me on any side in any capacity whether that’s in government, the Crown, or as part of political protest.)

Another factor you omitted to mention is that Meghan was allegedly made "suicidal", StartupRepair

Some may well wonder why Harry would be so keen to reconcile with a family who allowed that to be done to his wife, but I notice he never mentions it now

Funny, that ... perhaps in creating whatever his latest narrative is he forgot Confused

Charles would be well advised to start being seen more with William, and being supportive of William, if he cares about the longevity of the Crown

Edited to add that another thing we can't know is whether that would suit William, @AnAutumnCrow. It's very noticeable that he's completely ignored all his father's causes when forging his own path - even the Prince's Trust which he might have been naturally expected to inherit - so who's to say if he might not prefer things this way?
