Charles would be well advised to start being seen more with William, and being supportive of William, if he cares about the longevity of the Crown.

He needs to ‘show and tell’ more that the lineage sits far above his personal feelings about individual troublesome family members.

Charles has got a whole heap of reputational trouble heading his way with what he knew and when re his brother A. The organisation Republic has scented blood on that one. (As a mild-mannered republican I don’t like Republic, as explained previously. I don’t want a mean-spirited bunch of idiots representing me on any side in any capacity whether that’s in government, the Crown, or as part of political protest.)

How do you know he's not supportive of William?
You have zero evidence.
They're seen at big events together, but they've both got their own stuff.

I can just imagine if Charles and William did a whole load of stuff together! People on here would still be critical.

bluegreygreen · 13/08/2026 13:12

That would be a very definite change in policy for the monarchy @AnAutumnCrow, as historically senior royals have not attended each other's engagements.

There was the joint engagement at the Natural History Museum for the Countdown to COP30 last year.

Baital · 13/08/2026 13:12

I have no idea whether William didn't want to inherit the Prince's Trust, or whether Charles wanted to continue his involvement. Nor does anyone on MN. I can't see any evidence one way or the other.

I don't think QE2 and Charles did much together when he was in his 40s? Why would they?

I think I'm right in saying KC wanted to keep his involvement going, which it why it was renamed the King's Trust. So I think it was KC's wanting to keep it rather than W not wanting it. I am sure I have read that , but as you say - as an MNer rather than a member of KC's inner circle - I don't have an indisputable receipt for that 😊

No-one has had a Harry before.

You were correct in mentioning they each have their own things, Baital, but up to a point they can make of the role whatever they want and given the disasters which have hit the RF in recent times I can see why some feel a show of solidarity between the two men might be welcome

As said, though, we have no way of knowing whether this is something William would be happy to go along with

LatestDM piece from Richard Eden.
These bullying accusations will never sink .
The Palace has ‘buried’ the report which will ‘never see the light of day’.
It must be utterly utterly damning.

And then we had part 2 across the pond with 2 separate independent legally watertight investigations published in The Hollywood Reporter and Vanity Fair where numerous staff spoke of witnessing and / or being the victims of bullying and belittling in MM workplace. There were reports before she met PH of her behaving appallingly on a fashion shoot with Reitmans where the director stuck his head above the parapet to announce on SM that she was yhe worst person he had ever met. She abused her ‘power’ whenever she can - she behaved on Suits because she was waaaay down the pecking order and her behaviour then was to ‘kiss up’ whilst elsewhere she ‘kicks down’. Seemingly a consistent and persistent pattern of bullying behaviours reported in many different settings on both sides of the Atlantic over many years. Can’t wait for the day when some bouffanty LA lawyer rounds up all her victims for a joint claim.

bluegreygreen · 13/08/2026 13:23

It's very noticeable that he's completely ignored all his father's causes when forging his own path - even the Prince's Trust which he might have been naturally expected to inherit - so who's to say if he might not prefer things this way?

That's an interesting take on a decision that none of us has any information about.

Another way of looking at it might be that the King had a vision and developed it well over 30+ years.
William has a separate vision which he is developing alongside his wife, which hopefully in 30+ years' time will have produced as many benefits as the King's Trust and Foundation.

I suspect those who criticise William for not taking over the Prince's Trust would have criticised him for being too lazy or indifferent to do his own thing if he had.

This made me laugh! I look forward to a female version of David Sherborne taking her down!

Actually yes, maybe William’s steering clear of Charles. Perhaps that’s just tradition, perhaps it’s for other reasons.

It's well known Meg was a toxic bully before she met H

Yes that's equally possible, bluegreygreen, and certainly fresh initiatives can sometimes produce better results than thrashing the same old thing, but personally I'm back with we can't actually know when it comes to the interpersonal details

OP posts:
bluegreygreen · 13/08/2026 13:37

Exactly my point @Puzzledandpissedoff - we don't know any of the interpersonal details.

It's therefore just as inaccurate to talk about William 'ignoring' his father's causes as it is to talk about divisions between them.
For all we know they could chat about them over tea and scones at Highgrove (with proper jam!).

Baital · 13/08/2026 13:40

Just as the Duke of Edinburgh awards didn't go to Charles. Maybe because he and Philip were at loggerheads. Maybe because Charles respected the DofE but wanted to do his own thing.

Baital · 13/08/2026 13:42

The DofE awards and Princes/King's Trust are now both well established and doing amazing work. It would be great if William could establish something equally good over the next decades.

None of us “know” anything, we are all just musing and drawing our own conclusions from what we see and interpret, I don’t think we need evidence for that.
