Sorry if this is obvious/already discussed.. I can’t find it.

Im just wondering why Harry can do these ‘engagements’ but his wife and kids can’t step in the country.

Every time I read this stuff I think he's trying to use it as a bargaining chip, that his father will be so desperate to see the grandchildren that he'll give in re the security stuff.

Well the security stuff is not up to the King. If Harry hasn't understood that yet, even after all his court cases, he's even more lacking in braincells than previously thought.

KC3 has now seen A&L so any cold grandfather blackmail won’t work again. This meeting probably ticked a box for KC3 personally and professionally - he got good PR out of it, PH probs won’t realise that and if/when PH tries that nonsense again it will hold no power over KC3 personally or reputationally. The only people who it will hurt are his own children if he dangles them and they are disappointed. Shooting himself in the foot. PH was cock-a-hoop at his kids meeting his DF but having also ‘resolved’ a family estrangement recently I don’t think PH has clocked as Dua Lipa would say there are ‘new rules’. In my situation I am happy that we have now moved to be able to be polite and civil with brief greetings and moving on swiftly at necessary family events. That’s enough for me - there will not be anything like the involvement we had before. So PH assuming he’s back on for Christmas, Trooping, Ascot, Balmoral etc is decidedly naive and premature. He’s being managed at arms length.

Absolutely agree. The fact that they only met for an hour or so whilst C and C were hosting an event for a group of embroiderers says it all. I imagine the conversation was very stilted and concentrated on pleasantries. Nothing that could be used to twist meaning or be included in future books or leaks.

Agree, it’s like a business meeting rather than a family reunion, even the statement from BP confirming the meeting did take place, was so formal.

I think Charles was emotionally coerced into meeting them, and the fact Camilla was front and center of a 1 hour meeting, indicates it was not the awesome homecoming Harry & Meghan would have liked, nor can they use it to springboard or reestablish any royal adjacency.

Harry’s behaviour this week attacking the judge as well as his constant chaotic and desperate press briefings around security and will MM and A&L come to UK or not will have been another nail in the coffin of any real ‘home-coming’ - they will have seen his persistent reactive behaviour yet again - hes a loose cannon.

What C&C shoe horned them in between other things?
Where did it say that?

I strongly suspected the meeting would have been kept brief. An hour tops, based on the last time they met was a whole 20min.

diddl · 15/07/2026 20:50

Friday’s meeting was “a top-secret arrangement,” and Harry and Meghan are “delighted” they were able to pull it off, a source close to the Sussexes tells Vanity Fair.

😂😂😂

I dont think it likely that the King will have felt any great sentimentality or connection during this perfunctory meeting. He had the opportunity to briefly see two grandchildren that he has supposedly only met once before. There isnt any relationship there surely and i doubt he was exactly enthused about seeing either Harry or his wife again.

They also live in completely different worlds. His grandchildren don't know the UK and don't know any of their father's family, know nothing about being inside the RF. It must be so hard to forge any sort of connection.

Agree. Sadly the children are his grandchildren largely in name only. There isnt any connection between them and their fathers family or any of their heritage. They arent likely to ever meet their cousins or their Uncle and Aunt or any of their other relatives from Harrys famiily.

It's very easy to be detached from family who have brought so much hurt to the family. I'm sure Charles has regrets about how it has turned out but he really does have many wonderful relatives around him.

You have no idea how many regrets he has. He's met up with the Sussex family, credit to him.

Yes you are correct but I'm assuming any father would have his regrets about a distant son and his children. That's just common sense.

Low contact is generally less draining than no contact when you have high conflict family members, it gives them less to fight. So it seems a sensible strategy to have occasional, short, very private meetings.

Yes I think it takes the sting out of all the 'will they won't they' media speculation. Just a quiet meeting once or twice a year in a neutral place without other family members present.

When I meet up with my home friends for a whole day there's hardly time for a proper catch up with all three of them. Four people, two of whom are children, in an hour max, is no foundation for a relationship.

I'm in a similar boat group of 5, meet 2/3 times a year in the middle for lunch, OMG the chatter is nonstop and the day disappears then it's time to leave on the last train home.

But thats not strained relationships nor are we worrying that someone will leak to the village gossip.

If it was only an hour. How do you actually keep to that timetable, is it like school parents night, someone chaps the door, your times up, it's time to leave?

It seems a long journey to meet Pa for an hour. But they need to build relationships somewhere.

Easy enough when one side is grey rocking and has put the otherside on an ‘information diet’ …. lots of vagueness ‘umma’ ‘ahhs’ and avoiding commitments ‘will have to look into that and come back to you later’

There are a lot of reasons he would be a higher risk than just rich and famous people. Terrorist threat for one given his royal and military status, plus likely white supremacist groups viewing him as a race traitor. I dont think we always fully know what these threats are, because we arent meant to, but they absolutely exist. I agree that our intel doesn't seem to have assessed that threat as high enough to require the security he is demanding though. it is clear he does not trust the state to correctly judge the threat. I don't agree with his approach to everything but in his shoes yes I would worry about a lot about the safety of my family, more so than myself.

Total, total rubbish. I don’t even see her as a woman of colour, and if she was so proud of her roots she wouldn’t have spent so much money and effort to look the opposite, ie nose job, hair relaxing 😳

To be fair, she's hardly alone in that. Plenty of black women in the public eye straighten their hair : Beyonce, Michelle Obama until recently, Rihanna, Meghan Thee Stallion are among the many who either straighten their hair or wear wigs when usually in public.

Emma Dabiri's book Don't Touch My Hair is quite interesting as to why.

You’re right, but tbf, I didn’t say she was the only one 🙂

Why don’t you make the effort to find out? If you are truly interested in these issues, all you have to do is ask for an AI summary of the book, which I highly recommend btw.

The answer is within the question. Harry accepts the UK security status situation but Meghan doesn't. That's up to her. She doesn't have to travel anywhere or take their children to places she is uncomfortable going to. She hasn't by all accounts taken them to see their other grandfather even though he's ill. Lots of parents worry about their children's safety in today world. They are no different in worrying but at least they have choices and far more resources than the average parent.

True. Though those parents probably don't happily leave their children at home while they go off on a jolly on another continent.

Anyway, she did travel to Britain with her children and their trip was perfectly safe and private, without the elevated security they supposedly need.
