Hello I thought I'd start a thread where we can build up the excitement for tomorrow 😂

I'm enjoying the English Country/ family vibe I'm getting from the setting and wedding prep.

Fox Gloves in the flowers 💕

I'm looking forward to seeing Harriet's dress, she's a very attractive women, but the flowers are always of special interst to me.

Who do we think will be bridesmaids? Peters P's and Harriet's daughters presumably? Zara's kids?

I read that Philip and Zara have a half sister who will be attending, I didn't kow about her!

I also read that Peters first wedding to Autumn was sold to Hello and criticised for this. Very tacky. It looks like he's learned and is not cashing in this time, so hopefully we'll get a good look at evryone.

Also not to let the chaps off

No indeed.

You would think the groom could have got his trouser legs tailored.

Those milk ads mustn't be paying as much as they used to!

Ha ha - I missed that one - one break before the shoe I thought. He's nailed it down the bottom of the waistcoat but as you imply not being able to sell the photos to Hello! clearly meant the tailoring budget ran out then 😂

Well there's one thing I learned from today's so called Royal/society wedding, and it is that no one should fret about what to wear to ANY wedding. Having seen the gear on most of the guests today I was just so underwhelmed. Most of it was dull, creased, boring, nondescript, too short, too long, but with one or two notable exceptions. Anything goes as long as the fabric is expensive it seems!

On another note, I had a vision of the Mother of Bride and Father of Groom hiding behind one of those white flowered bushes at the back of the church having a sneaky fag and a hip flask slug of G+T. Cos they weren't to be seen anywhere else!

English upper classes prefer frumpy style in general. It’s their thing. God forbid you look like you care about fashion or look like you tried to make an effort

That seems to be his preferred style as his trousers were like that at the Queen’s funeral and at Charles & Camilla’s wedding (I think it was their wedding - certainly one of the weddings).

I doubt she needed to panic.

Her wardrobe would be full of dresses and she may even have access to something they call a weather forecast! Now, they can pinpoint weather a week in advance and down to the hour.

Hmm, this time last week, today’s weather forecast wasn’t that bad!

She does have a lot of lovely dresses, like this one, a rewear from only a short while ago. Which makes me think it wasn’t the original plan. If she always planned a rewear, I’d assume something she’s held back from wearing this spring already,

measuretwicecutonce · Today 20:01

On a separate note, and everyone is free to do what they want but AIBU to think it’s a shame that she was given away by her brother and is changing her name but her daughter is keeping her name. I know it’s her name from her first marriage but doesn’t this just show the ridiculousness of women changing their names and how archaic all these practices are.

A very interesting summary indeed.

I still think three inches off the length would sort out the exaggerated visual imbalance between the top and bottom halves of the outfit, but I often think that about those almost-ankle-length skirts.

Clearly, Mumsnetters need to get together and be Kate's dressmakers! 🤣

Most skirts these days seem to be very short or very long. Whatever happened to an inch or two below the knee? After all, most women aren't that tall and are drowned in long skirts.

An inch or two below the knee is quite an unflattering length on many women, hence the preference for a lower hem hitting below the calf muscle.

Her wedding, her choice! She’s the bride, and if she wants to go full bridal, she should!

I don't think anyone's of the opinion that the bride shouldn't wear what she wants!

On the other hand, maybe a visit from the Fashion Police wouldn't have gone amiss...for a few of the guests!

But an inch or two below the knee isn't long enough to hit at mid-calf, the widest part. It's just a little below the knee.

I googled Eugenie's shoes because I just couldn't make them work in my head from the photo angle. They are these apparently . I personally can't see the appeal 😊 By which I mean they are to my eye just very ugly. Each to their own.

Sarah Chatto looks like she should be serving the canapes at the the reception! 🤣 You really have to be careful not to do the waitress or school-uniform look when wearing a black skirt and white blouse! What was she thinking??

Odd shoes to wear when you're heavily pregnant. Look like a fall risk.

HoldMyWine · Today 20:13

Yes , very odd choice for Sarah

TaoJing · Today 20:20

I'm fed up of all the media going on about 'NHS nurse'.

FGS- are they trying to say' He's married a commoner'?
Or she works for the NHS?

She can't pay £60K school fees on a nurse's income so either her ex or parents are funding it.

But the headlines make out she's a pauper .

So true! Remember Diana’s sister in law? She was quite cool yet on her wedding day she wore something that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a zombie in the Thriller video. Also Linley’s first wife wore the most dreadful get up and unflattering hair-do, ditto Helen Taylor and Beatrice.

I thought Helen Taylor’s dress was beautiful. David Linley’s first wife’s was a sort of homage to her MIL’s wasn’t it? The first Charles Spencer bride was awful for sure.
I wasn’t keen on the dress today.

Yes but maybe there is a certain cache in calling herself Mrs Phillips?

Most women do have a wet weather/ dry weather plan for an occasion.
I have very few clothes but for an important outside event in the UK I'd have at least 2 options and I'm not a Duchess.

I just looked up Victoria Lockwood's wedding photos. In her defence, it was the eighties!

I can't believe how enormous the Spencer tiara looks on her, compared to on Diana!

His shoes are not right. They are also old and creased.

He's wearing black shoes with a buckle fastening when the correct dress with tails is Oxfords- lace ups. Check out the King and Prince William's shoes.

Teakettletrio · Today 20:30

Asking again - what is stuck to the tiara? And why wasn’t it removed before the photos?

I thought it was a bit of confetti or a stray flower from a bush or a tree.

I was just out of shot (thankfully) to the left.
Really not “hundreds” of people as described by the DM. Maybe a hundred? Most were local or fairly local I think.
The house behind had a third story which provided the best view.

I’ve just remembered - I saw a Chinese woman rock up carrying a bouquet (supermarket best) ! No idea if she thought the bride might like to swap or she would just hurl in the hope of someone catching it but the crowd were kept well back so no chance of handling it to anyone. 😆

I think the bridesmaids had some Love in the Mist in their bouquets. I have lots in my garden. Mum loved it so I bought a packet of seeds and scattered them around. They spread like anything, self seeding and get rather messy but I think they are very pretty.

I thought the bridesmaids looked sweet. Loved their hair. I managed a rear view picture of them.
