Hello I thought I'd start a thread where we can build up the excitement for tomorrow 😂

I'm enjoying the English Country/ family vibe I'm getting from the setting and wedding prep.

Fox Gloves in the flowers 💕

I'm looking forward to seeing Harriet's dress, she's a very attractive women, but the flowers are always of special interst to me.

Who do we think will be bridesmaids? Peters P's and Harriet's daughters presumably? Zara's kids?

I read that Philip and Zara have a half sister who will be attending, I didn't kow about her!

I also read that Peters first wedding to Autumn was sold to Hello and criticised for this. Very tacky. It looks like he's learned and is not cashing in this time, so hopefully we'll get a good look at evryone.

Princess of Wales reminded me of a Norland nanny in uniform, especially that hat. But I expect for events like this she consciously dresses in something that will in no way over shadow the bridal party.

Maybe I'm thick, but I don't understand why people think this is a 'young bride look'? It's a long fitted dress with a high neck, since when is that 'young'? And as for the fact that it's white, which long ago may have represented purity, these days most brides aren't virgins, so where's the logic?

I’d say ‘first time bride’ rather than young necessarily; it also had Roman Catholic vibes for me, due to the lace and structure.

I don’t mind saying that I think it is odd to wear a full-on white wedding dress to your second wedding. I mean it’s not a matter of life and death obviously, and people should do what makes them happy. I also think in this case because the dress was so ‘religious’ and ‘formal’ with the full cathedral veil and everything, it was giving ‘formal first wedding in a high Anglican or RC town church’ not ‘second marriage for two middle-aged people in an English country church’.

Just my opinion of course and I know things have changed a great deal since my young day lol (I’m 50)

James was there

Happy to see James is sporting the same hair all teen boys including my DS seem to have at the moment!

OMG.

My thoughts exactly.

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 07/06/2026 12:37

After looking at the pics of all the guests and their headgear I have ditched the rather boring fascinator I was going to wear to a wedding in a fortnight and have ordered a large headband thingy off Vinted. Bang on trend, me.

I assume you're speaking for yourself?

Because you are't speaking for me or my friends.

I'm almost 70 and took a huge amount of care to look very smart for one of my children's weddings recently at a high profile venue. My 'outer layer' was a lovely midi length wool fitted coat worn with high heeled shoes.

I care very much how I look and although I don't dress to please other people, I do care about looking appropriately dressed at important family occasions.

It's nothing to do with 'ageing' .

Edited

You misunderstood. My point wasn't that you can't want to look smart, glamorous or whatever but you feel free to do what you want, dont need to rely on other people's approval.

If Princess Anne felt happy with what she was wearing good for her.

MulberryBrandy · 07/06/2026 12:40

I could not find a better picture of Mary, Harriet's mother, but within this article we see her as one of Country Life's "girls with pearls":

Aristocratic roots of Peter Phillips' NHS nurse girlfriend Harriet Sperling revealed

Theseagullsarenowclouds · 07/06/2026 12:40

I really like Beatrice's dress, she looked good.
Zara's silver shoes and blue dress are fab.

Catherines dress is nice and appropriately understaged the bride. I wonder if it was cosier than it looked, the fabric looked fairly thick. I'm sure she must wear thin thermal layers on days like yesterday. I'm skinny like her and have an assortment of long thermal vests and big pants for colder summer days.

James is in the middle of his A levels. Louise might have exams as well

James was there. Louise was on her way home this morning, behind a mumsnetter in the queue at Edinburgh airport, so a bit strange she didn't come back on Friday night. They are much younger than Peter so presumably not that close.
William, Bea and Eugiene were there. Harry not, for whatever reason.

I was wondering how many brides actually qualify for white. I 5ought she looked lovely.

I have a couple of friends who got married mid 40s (2nd weddings) and did the whole big white wedding again.
The reason being that they felt they had met the person they wanted to be with and there second marriages mattered more than there first.
I do think the not wearing white for second weddings is a bit of a hangover form when divorce and second weddings were more stigmatised as not being as valid as the first.

Amused that I'm getting hand-held steamers, and irons, advertised to me on here. Is it scanning the comments or the photos!

Just saw some more photos here:

not sure how I feel about Sarah Chatto's outfit, it's like a plain white work shirt and slightly fancier skirt, with a hat bunged on the top so she doesn't look like one of the waiting staff. (More conniptions from the style and beauty lot - black AND white!)

I have no idea who Isabelle de La Bruyere is but her outfit is stunning.

Agree i'm not keen on Sophie's bag, it's a bit of a mismatch in styles but the blue doesn't even match her dress.

Somebody in the photo with Lena Tindall having a blast is wearing amazing tartan trews.

I tried to Google who was wearing the fascinating tartan trews and the AI told me no one at the wedding was wearing tartan!! 😂

Lucky you, mine has just gone past that phase and is now sporting what I can only describe as 1990s curtains

MulberryBrandy · 07/06/2026 12:55

I wondered why Mia was holding an umbrella over Kate but it is an 'assistant' in the same dress.

Rainumbrellarainwellys · 07/06/2026 12:56

There is an article in British Vogue about the dress and lots if info regarding the materials etc.

Just conpme up on Google news

If Princess Anne felt happy with what she was wearing good for her.

But 'not needing other people's approval' is not related in any way to being older.

Have you seen a Norland nanny uniform?

It's not remotely like her dress.

It's a bit old fashioned. And it's very much a 'first bride looking demure' look. Either you see that or you don't.

I imagined she might wear an off-white or cream midi/ankle length dress in satin or silk that cinched her waist and showed off her figure. And shorter sleeves.
Something more like a gorgeous glam frock than a lacy wedding dress.

TaoJing · 07/06/2026 12:59

Well maybe not for some but for many there is a need to fit in and get approval which changes as you get older. Look at some of the frankly horrible comments on here. Younger people are often more anxious about the criticism so I say good luck to the bride who doesn't care that some people think she should have been in a smart suit or Princess Anne who wore what she wanted. My experience is the older you get the more you can ignore the horrible judgements like on here and wear what you like.

no I don’t see that, I see a very religious woman, in a wholly appropriate dress for the ceremony, which is elegant and very understated, she wasn’t there to show off her figure or have a cinched in waists. To play demure, or play the siren, not every occasion is about showing off your body,

when the lace top coat came off, I assume at the breakfast, after the ceremony, she’d be in a very elegant sleeveless column dress.

either you see that or you don’t.

HoldMyWine · 07/06/2026 13:18

I thought Lena Tindall looked sweet, her dress was pretty and I liked her velvet shoes and matching bow in her hair.

I see someone who chose to dress in a wedding dress more suited to someone much younger and on her first wedding. If she is ‘very religious’, surely she’d not have gone for the full on virginal look including a chaste veil.

Her choice, good luck to her but she actually looked better in the rehearsal photos.

Ivory crepe dress, according to Telegraph fashion editor

I thought she looked lovely. It looked as though it was a lace overlay which may have been removed for the wedding breakfast.
