Hello I thought I'd start a thread where we can build up the excitement for tomorrow 😂

I'm enjoying the English Country/ family vibe I'm getting from the setting and wedding prep.

Fox Gloves in the flowers 💕

I'm looking forward to seeing Harriet's dress, she's a very attractive women, but the flowers are always of special interst to me.

Who do we think will be bridesmaids? Peters P's and Harriet's daughters presumably? Zara's kids?

I read that Philip and Zara have a half sister who will be attending, I didn't kow about her!

I also read that Peters first wedding to Autumn was sold to Hello and criticised for this. Very tacky. It looks like he's learned and is not cashing in this time, so hopefully we'll get a good look at evryone.

India Hicks was a mature bride, and her dress was very elegant.

Just looked up India Hicks' wedding. Elegant? Noooooo! It's probably the frumpiest wedding dress I've ever seen! It has a polo neck 🤣, sleeves down to her hands, skirt almost ankle-length but not a beautiful bridal length, and all in thick, solid, curtain-like fabric. What was she thinking? She looks like a nun attending a tea party! For reference, one of the wedding dresses I've liked best was Kate Middleton's. Appropriate with just the slightest hint of sexy, and nothing frumpy about it at all!

India: Omg.

I thought kates dress just looked like beautiful tailoring and and a great fit.
I love the classic style of it too, which others find dull.

Kate obviously has a great tailor/ seamstress as her clothes usually fit beautifully.

An inch or two below the knee looks very old fashioned to me now and to be avoided if you’re middle aged but don’t want to look too matronly! A bit longer is more flattering to my eye, particularly because you want to avoid the skirt ending on and hitting the fatter part of the leg.

But at inch or two doesn't end at the fattest part of the calf, which is the mid-calf. It hits just below the knee.

dapsnotplimsolls · Today 19:26

I just hope someone lent Kate a jacket during the service.

tarheelbaby · Today 19:27

Love a good set of wedding pic's.

PoW did look like the Norland nanny! That was my first thought. Lately, her dresses have been v. long, heavy and 'drapey' - cf her heart-spotted dress and her blue dress this week.

Zara looked great. Her children looked like normal kids at a family wedding.
Eugenie gets a pass but a merit for effort. Check out her shoes and Beatrice's; so sad that the York sisters have not sported some insane hats.
Do royal ladies wear giant alice bands, sometimes with faux pearls/jewels, to remind folk that they are princesses?

I agree with @santamole that many of them looked like they'd rolled out of bed and put on whatever they found. This for me showed that it was a very 'family' wedding. I hope most of them stayed on and that it's been a hella good party.

Harriet's dress was one of the more flattering wedding dresses I've seen on royals' brides. I like that she wore a tiara and it's a borrowed one - no commitment there. (as tiaras go, it's a great pastiche of known tiara motifs)

We could have another thread ranking our favourite brides' dresses at 'royal' weddings. My all time fave happens to be Autumn Kelly's with Diana and Sophie following. That's not meant as a snark at Peter or Harriet (b/c I wish them every happiness and am grateful to have seen their wedding pics), just an opinion.

I agree on all counts! 😂

I have a sartorial dilemma. A Scottish summer wedding in an area where the estimated high based on previous years is 16 degrees and rain. My wedding guest dress obeys many of the rules people have specified above being a block colour in a silky fabric with movement in the hem. However I will freeze and was considering a cashmere shawl…. You’ve made me think I need to look for a satin hooded trench or something of that nature!

StrawberryWasp · Today 19:30

What would you have worn if you were Harriet?

I think I'd had done for something like this. With a fresh flower crown and a wildflower bouquet. Hair half up down.

I liked Snowden's girlfriends dress! (Apparently her name is Isabelle de la Bruyère)

She's the only guest that I've seen who looked in any way chic imo

Edited

I don't think the guests were aiming to look chic.

Nah, she looked like a Westerner in Hong Kong attempting to fit in by co-splaying geisha. Amazed people aren't screaming "cultural appropriaaaaation!"

Either that, or she just put on her silky dressing gown from Rosie for Autograph and added a random wide belt!

I rarely like what the ultra-rich wear - I think they mostly look hideous - and this wedding is no exception.

Fluffypuppy1 · Today 19:31

Sophie’s outfit being a rewear makes me think she planned to wear something else more summery, looked at the weather forecast and then panicked about what she’d got in her wardrobe with long sleeves for some warmth.

Agree. I imagine that a lot of the guests had to change outfits as it was unusually cold and rainy today for June.

I wasn’t keen on the bridesmaid outfits. The high necks and sleeves reminded me of the white Next rash vests that ds used to wear on holiday when he was younger.

Linencat · Today 19:32

I loved the dress
Personally she got a bit lost under the huge veil , see Pippa Middys veil, which if she had to wear one, was perfect

I think when the lace top comes off and its simple sheath with hair half up it will look stunning

Im of the mind that most wedding guests are oh fuck what can I wear, grab something and go

What is in as regards head wear these days if twiddly fascinators or tudor head bands are out?
Full hats?

A agree about India Hicks. Not a nice dress at all. High necks are rarely flattering unless maybe you're Linda Evangelista in that George Michael video.

As for Kate, I thought the skirt on her dress was exquisite but I didn't like the lace sleeves and the pointy Barbarella boobs. To me it was an inferior version of Grace Kelly's gorgeous dress.

Pippa wore a similar dress for her wedding. I preferred it to her sister's!

Oooh I don't love India Hicks dress in that photo. Isn't her personal style a kind of posh girl boho? She should have leant into that vibe instead. But I agree with the pp who said that a lot of women seem to abandon their usual fashion instincts when it comes to their wedding day.

I doubt she needed to panic.

Her wardrobe would be full of dresses and she may even have access to something they call a weather forecast! Now, they can pinpoint weather a week in advance and down to the hour.

Sorry to have gone awol on contemporaneous commentary - internet connection went down, then I was having a long enjoyable conversation with a lady from a coupe of villages away and then I had to concentrate on trying to see something!
To pp who asked - no it wasn't me peering through the hedge!😂
The people with the best view (apart from the press) were the occupants of the house behind the public viewing point who were up in a top story window watching the action.
There weren't actually many people there, but all squeezed into quite a small public space and I was about three back and barely saw a thing. Even when I stood on tiptoe and held my phone as high as I could people started waving and obscuring that too so I have very little evidence of my presence. It was entertaining listening to the chatter though. People are funny, there was a little boy, probably about age six or maybe a very small eight, Granny asked for him to be let through as he was "press" 😉 - he was indeed kitted out with quite a serious looking camera. He stood patiently for about half an hour then got bored and was nowhere to be seen when the cars started arriving. 🤣
Most people (including me) headed off as soon as the bridal party had gone in, I'd probably have had quite a good view if I'd waited for them all to come out but that was enough royal watching for me.

All those in short sleeved dresses - don't they feel the cold? I was wearing my standard winter wear, warm polo neck and raincoat. No wonder Anne was huddled in her pashmina.

I agree with all re: Sophie's bag - it's just the sort of thing you buy your five year old. Probably a lot more expensive though.

Thank goodness Sarah Chatto was wearing a hat otherwise she's at risk of being sent to the kitchen for more canapés once the guests have quaffed a bit of champagne. Reminds me of the time (a long time ago) when I was with a friend who was trying on half the stock in Laura Ashley. I was slumped on the material cutting table when a lady came up and asked me the price of something. I said "Sorry, I don't work here". She looked confused and then said "Really??? (Yes! Really!!) You looked so "To the Manor Born" as it were". (Very posh voice). She seemed quite outraged that I wasn't going to jump to it and serve her.

I hate the dress of Isabella de whatever her name was. Great hat though. What is the word for a wrap that is a thin dressing gown but not a kimono? Anyway her dress (I think it may have been a wrap around) looked as if she'd just got out of bed and slipped her wrap on.

Anyway, it seemed a very happy day. I wonder if some of the children, like the Wales children, were at the reception later having fun with their tribe.

AsparagusSeason · Today 19:36

I don’t know what India Hicks was thinking. Another bride that lost her style on her wedding day. She’s so striking, but extremely masculine in her features, so the harsh slicked back hair was awful. As was the dress. She’s attractive and lovely and slim - she could’ve looked amazing whilst being age-appropriate.

I suspect her dress is quite like those once she takes the lace jacket off.

Were the younger Tindall children there?
Why weren't William and Kates children there?

I get not bringing toddlers to church but children over the age of 5 should be able to sit through a church service imo.

I find this excluding of children from weddings sad. Weddings create family cohesion and teach children so much about what families value.

They also look cute and usually have a great time and create key memories.

All of Zara’s kids were there, and on another forum someone said Harriet’s nieces/nephews were there.

I don’t think not inviting cousins children is too bad tbh. There would have been 8 children just between William, Beatrice and Eugenie’s children, then children from Mark Phillip’s side and then Harriet’s cousins.

I think even when you’ve got plenty of money drawing a line somewhere is fair enough.

Oh, I had forgotten about the weird boob-casing on Kate's dress. Yes, that really wasn't the best. Pippa's bust-shaping in her wedding dress looked much better. But I prefer the deep yet narrow neckline on Kate's. I think wedding dresses that come right up to the chin with no relief look a bit too nun-like and severe. Kate's neckline was perfect, imo.

"We could have another thread ranking our favourite brides' dresses at 'royal' weddings." Oooh I'd be up for that @tarheelbaby if there is the appetite for it. I suspect there has been one , but just passed me by.

Anyway about today - I am not seeing surrendered wife for the bridesmaids' dresses ( apologies if I read that wrong) Maybe I live in a parallel universe but I think they strike me a very classic clean lines , more Audrey Hepburn , especially with the ballet flats. Which might explain , because I like those so much , why Harriet's dress is not my cup of tea - too fussy for my taste.

Also not to let the chaps off - Beatrice's husband's morning suit seem to be very badly cut. Morning suit trousers are deliberately very high cut ( and mostly worn with braces ) so that the waistcoat sits neatly over the waistband. In photographs of him I am sure in more than one you can see the trouser waistband. Just sayin'. I am a gender/sex equal commentator. 😊

Oh and by the way Thank you to the poster who posted the pictures of the flowers inside the church - they are just stunning in my view ( Sorry I get nervous scrolling back in case I lose my post)

No indeed.

You would think the groom could have got his trouser legs tailored.

Posh boho girl, yes, that's how I think of her. I'd have imagined her in more of the style that Kate Winslet wore for her first wedding, which I thought was just so pretty. The headpiece, pre-Raphaelite curls, and the dress all looked so good together. I'd have expected this kind of look from India:
