The royal family

Why does Harry need to announce his visit to Canada ?

Mylovelygreendress · 04/11/2025 08:46

Harry has announced he will visit Canada for Invictus events .
The announcement is made while the POW is in Brazil undertaking important official business including representing KC at COP.
His spokesperson says the announcement had to be made at short notice for security reasons !
If this non working royal has security concerns , why announce it at all ?

What the hell is ‘remebrancetide’??

I just checked the context to make sure and it's from Harry's office. It's a good example of the mistake they keep making, and which imo Meghan has made from the start when she kept her American team rather than using British advisers. Americans, or to be more specific the ones who work/ worked for the Sussexes, simply do not understand the intersection of royals and British culture, politics and society, well enough to make good PR decisions for this arena.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 15/11/2025 12:20

Love Harry's signature. He can manage two letters, then it's basically a flat-line. Even his signature says, 'I'm not important.' Spare, indeed.

MrsLeonFarrell · 15/11/2025 12:21

Or i could be wrong and it's just part of their general ham fistedness and terrible PR, like Meghan posting Happy Mental Health Day recently.

Another unflattering photo of Meghan

If they want to do foreign trips, they'd be far better advised to choose places that aren't in the Commonwealth. Much easier to carve out their own identity.

What are they actually trying to achieve in these foreign trips? They aren’t serving any purpose at all apart form to generate publicity.

Or I can’t be bothered.

Harry seems to genuinely believe that he has lived a life of service for 35 years (he's said that on record) and that he is still living that life. I see no evidence he has ever grasped that he left the status and purpose of life as a senior working royal behind when he and Megan chose to leave.

He thinks nothing has changed because he was born into the Royal family and therefore, in his head, he keeps that status for life. He doesn't seem to realise that royal status is linked to representing the Monarch and he no longer does that.

He doesn't see these trips as trips, he sees them as royal tours.

Indianrollerbird · 15/11/2025 13:56

Thanks for the Australia info @JSMill @Thedom and @bluegreygreen . Not sure they need a psychic to tell them that idea will be dead in the water.

I can’t find the clip but he said to one reporter, regarding, I believe, his visit to Sunnybrook Veterans’ Centre, “my aunt has been here, my grandmother has been here, my great grandmother has been here “, as if he thinks he is still a link in the chain.

I found it irritating.

ETA, I’m still talking about his Toronto trip.

Ohpleeeease · 15/11/2025 15:34

I can’t decide whether it’s pathetically deluded or downright shameless. I’m afraid I’m inclined to think the latter.

I find it sad. Why bother to leave the security of your role, causing all this fuss and bother and hurt, if you are just going to keep doing the same sort of thing butwithout the impact you had before

Ohpleeeease · 15/11/2025 16:21

I think both of them are very weak headed, @MrsLeonFarrell. They were dazzled their own stardom. But their fatal error was to think they were the stars.

bluegreygreen · 15/11/2025 16:22

I do think it's sad.

He and Meghan could have been part of developing the monarchy for the 21st century, and a real help over the last couple of difficult years with key people being ill, had they been able to accept that their role was to be supportive of the monarch and heir.

That's without even considering all the hurt and distress.

Insightful as ever, MrsLF, but with a wife who IMO never intended staying here in the first place, and who then let it be known she was being driven to suicide, perhaps Harry was weak minded enough to feel he had no choice?

As has been said countless times, he at least made it clear he didn't want to leave completely, but once again he failed to understand how these things work and here we are

StartupRepair · 15/11/2025 20:12

I don't think they will get a big welcome here in Australia. The crowds they drew in 2018 were due to curiosity and legacy goodwill towards Harry, not because of their innate awesomeness.
The rumours of tea throwing and tantrums in Government House started very quickly after that visit.

Choux · 15/11/2025 20:39

Tea throwing? Meghan did that???

It was reported that Meghan threw a cup of tea at a member of staff . Also that H and M complained that they had to share their accommodation ( Governor’s House?) even though they had their own wing .
Allegedly.

Admiralty House. https://www.gg.gov.au/about-governor-generalgovernor-generals-official-residences/admiralty-house
Very grand with lots of room.

Mylovelygreendress · 15/11/2025 21:04

Not too shabby !
She was also quite disparaging about their accommodation in Africa - referred to it as a housing unit !

Harry is hardly the poster boy for resilience or healing, no matter how many times they write that about him.

OMG, from senior working royal to giving a talk to a bunch of estate agents 😬

He’s not even qualified for that Norma ! , he’s being paid, he’s doing it for money and no doubt will reuse or shoehorn his mental health, victim mentality and Diana into his speech!🙄

Kalpitiya · 19/11/2025 14:16

I wonder how many of these engagements he does each year and if the number has fallen off a cliff post Sentebale.

I can’t even be a big fee given the price of the tickets.

I wonder if Canada is a target market for him for some reason?
