News banner from the Torygraph saying Andrew and Sarah are losing their titles. They will be ‘put into Abeyance’ Andrew also to lose the Order of the Garter. Sarah will be known as Sarah Ferguson, he retains ‘Prince’ as he is the son of HM QE2.

She's Sarah, Duchess of York. Similarly, Lady Di became Diana, Princess of Wales upon divorce. No HRH for either of them.
This is why our Megs, styling herself as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is so odd, she's using the style normally reserved for those divorced from royals. Admittedly she also isn't HRH.

She also thinks her last name is Sussex, which it isn't. It is Mountbatten-Windsor.

I think it achieves quite a lot. While he has those titles he can still use them for business leverage but this sends a really strong message that he’s officially out of favour with the King. By default it’ll remove Sarah Ferguson’s privileges too.

I guess it also sends a subtle message to H & M as well - it says, ‘we can remove titles and if pushed, we will’.

Fuck me, "out of favour with the King."

It's like fucking Shrek.

Aren't we all a bit beyond this?

Oh she won't like being plain old Sarah Ferguson 😁

I reckon she will go by Princess Andrew (despite the divorce) knowing that many Americans will abbreviate to Princess Sarah which is probably not losing face in her eyes.

He still has the titles, he’s just not going to use them, just like Harry and Meghan don’t use HRH, they are still HRH, to remove the title of Duke it has to go through Parliament.

Not necessarily. There’s a legal argument that has been published by a senior legal authority that works through the law and precedents. It looks like the monarch could strip the lot, should he be so minded, as all the titles and styles derive from the pleasure of the King or Queen.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 17/10/2025 19:30

No he hasn’t, he’s just not going to use it, in public anyway, I expect he will still be referred to as HRH by acquaintances, friends and staff.

Not according to the BBC - they used the word 'renounced'.

Yes, but he hasn't. Andrew still has all his titles.

She would have to be really hard faced to continue to use it now! The reports are saying she will be known as Sarah Ferguson from now on.

I think cuddly, goofy Fergie is as hard faced as they come. And stupid to boot. She’ll be using the title, maybe not in public, but possibly in her future email correspondence with her benefactors.

What kind of lickspittle, know-your-place friend is going to refer to that dirty nonce as "your royal highness." Who hates them self that much? It's insane.

localbutterfly · 17/10/2025 19:32

Still eighth in line for the throne, though!

They are wrong. He's also still a Prince.

Here is Andrew's actual statement:

In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.

Too little too late . RIP Virginia.

notacooldad · 17/10/2025 19:33

Im keen on her, she should have more of a role but then she also has had her moments, didnt she have a few speeding incidents and her dog attacked someone?
That's not as bad as having a King who is an adulterer. Im sure people would have got over speeding, a vicious dog and a princess telling the press to Naff off!

diddl · 17/10/2025 19:33

York is generally given to the 2nd son & was given to Andrew.

It wasn't therefore available for Harry, although he wasn't the 2nd son of the monarch when he was given his title anyway.

Butchyrestingface · 17/10/2025 19:33

🎵 Oh, the grand old Duke of York
He doesn't have 10,000 men
He doesn't march them up to the top of hill
And he doesn't march them down again 🎵

Sounds good, innit?

Middlemarch123 · 17/10/2025 19:34

The timing of this at the same time as all newspapers are publishing extracts from VG’s book, too much of a coincidence. I think Charles gave him the option of jumping, before he was pushed. He jumped.

She can’t be called Princess Andrew! They are not married!!

AFAICS, there is no reason for her not to use it. Unless it upsets ex hubbie.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 19:34

The more important aspect is removing his Garter Knight status so he can't turn up at events in the robes anymore. His statement is just him face saving but basically everything that can be done has been done.

Finally.

Oh he was very much pushed. This is the compromise they have come to, to avoid Kingy of having to actually strip him of his titles.

He'll always be a Prince though.

weegielass · 17/10/2025 19:35

will they give the titles to the sussexes, seeing that Harry is worming his way back in and he's the kings second son who normally gets that title?

I couldnt care less if someone is an 'adulterer'.

No because the title is still Andrew’s, he’s just not using it.

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:36

He's also still an HRH.

They have their titles & I don't think it's usual to swop them.
