News banner from the Torygraph saying Andrew and Sarah are losing their titles. They will be ‘put into Abeyance’ Andrew also to lose the Order of the Garter. Sarah will be known as Sarah Ferguson, he retains ‘Prince’ as he is the son of HM QE2.

I assume this means there are more allegations around the corner. Otherwise why now?

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:37

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 19:34

The more important aspect is removing his Garter Knight status so he can't turn up at events in the robes anymore. His statement is just him face saving but basically everything that can be done has been done.

Finally.

Has that been removed?

No5ChalksRoad · 17/10/2025 19:37

I wonder if this is also trying to get out ahead the Epstein report that may be released soon in the US.

Sagaciously · 17/10/2025 19:37

It’s all a bit meaningless. Why did they not strip him of his title via parliament?

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 19:38

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:37

Yes.

MasterBeth · 17/10/2025 19:26

That went well.

Dirty nonce.

It did at the time. It would have overshadowed the Jubilee. You saw the interview. They were never letting the liability loose in court!

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 17/10/2025 19:38

He is still Prince Andrew
He is still the Duke of York
He is still HRH
He is still in the line of succession

None of his titles have been officially removed (as yet) he is just not going to use them, in public anyway.

Teado · 17/10/2025 19:38

Never mind garters and titles and all that nonsense. He should be in prison.

maybe Ferguson will spill the tea in a memoir in revenge 😆

She has been since she got divorced.

Andy likes to refer to her as "the Duchess" when speaking to the sort of people who pay tax.

Edited

Andrew referring to his ex as ‘The Duchess’ actually makes me feel sick because that’s how Jimmy Saville referred to his mother 🤢🤢

I think cuddly, goofy Fergie is as hard faced as they come. And stupid to boot. She’ll be using the title, maybe not in public, but possibly in her future email correspondence with her benefactors.

Like Meghan and the HRH!

JemimaTab · 17/10/2025 19:40

I do feel this is all a bit cosmetic / superficial. He said he’s not going to “use” the titles, which is not at all the same as giving them up. Since he’s not a working royal anyway at this point, what does it actually change? He’ll presumably just be referred to as Prince Andrew when he’s photographed going to church etc. with the rest of the family as he no doubt will continue to be. It just feels like a bit of an empty gesture so the royals can say they’ve done something to address the Andrew problem.

I suspect that this is an easier and quicker way to do it. With the government rather busy it makes sense. In a similar way he was shuffled away from ever being a Counsellor of State, they didn't go through the long process of changing the law, they simply added a couple more people.

I don't think they can remove the Prince bit though.

It’s sad but all their own doing! No sympathy!

Too little too late . RIP Virginia.

Well said. Not just Virginia but all those girls. Not just that situation but all abused girls. As a SA survivor myself I'm going to raise a glass to this news. THANK YOU Virginia x

notacooldad · 17/10/2025 19:41

soupyspoon I couldnt care less if someone is an 'adulterer'
Neither do I.
I dont have an interest in the Royal family on the whole, but I don't think 'her moments' as it was referred to are that bad compared to some one who was to become a King and with all the responsibilities it entails.

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:41

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 19:38

Yes.

Says who? Where?

ZoeCM · 17/10/2025 19:41

They'll make Prince Louis Duke of York if he gets married.

He remains a Prince but the BBC article said he would "cease to be" the Duke of York. It may seem trivial to us but I don't think it is to him.

anamo · 17/10/2025 19:42

Smoke and mirrors. For the PR of it all. This wasn't done by the King, but by his advisers in the Firm. Deep breath now your majesty. We will word it so that Andrew is doing this off his own bat, back to your roses and veg patch. Whew.

Tiredofbullsit · 17/10/2025 19:42

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:23

He's not surrendering them. He's just not going to use them.

And he will still be Prince.

Splitting hairs. Surrendering the use of them better for you?

Rhaidimiddim · 17/10/2025 19:43

ifeelsostrongly · 17/10/2025 19:26

I think it achieves quite a lot. While he has those titles he can still use them for business leverage but this sends a really strong message that he’s officially out of favour with the King. By default it’ll remove Sarah Ferguson’s privileges too.

I guess it also sends a subtle message to H & M as well - it says, ‘we can remove titles and if pushed, we will’.

This is a really important point. For the first time the modern Monarchy has needed to act in response to a RF member acting in a way that brings the RF into disrepute. A precedent has been set, and the consequences of pissing off the Monarch demonstrated.

He is not ceasign to be anything. Why can't people understand this!

FlakyDenimHiker · 17/10/2025 19:44

the woman he had a relationship was 17,which doesnt make him a paedophile. also who knows how much of the book is true shes dead so she cant be questioned'when are the other friends of Jeffs going t have their lives ruined?

NotOvertheWorstofit · 17/10/2025 19:44

KeepTalkingBeth · 17/10/2025 19:10

About bloody time.

Earlier in the week, I read an excerpt from Virginia Giuffre's book on the Guardian. The most harrowing thing I've read in a long time. She will never get justice now, and Andrew will likely never face questioning. But any association with him will remain toxic. Cutting ties with him is the right thing to do for the royal family PR. I wonder what took them so long.

Yes I read the same excerpts from Virginias book. It’s incredibly sad. He’s still denying it even after the poor girl ended her own life. Stripping him of titles is not a severe enough punishment for what he did.
