It’s on the news now. Done.

Indianrollerbird · 17/10/2025 19:02

It’s on BBC news right now. He’s issued a statement saying he’s giving up the titles.

NewAgeNewMe · 17/10/2025 19:02

Just on Bbc
so it’s happening!

SpottyAardvark · 17/10/2025 19:02

Now being reported by the BBC & Sky, so it’s true. They check sources very carefully before publishing.

She’s still the duchess - what a joke !

She would have remained so until he remarried.

AgentPidge · 17/10/2025 19:05

But the title is given to the second son of the monarch, so shouldn't Harry be given that title now? Or are titles not taken away when the there's a new monarch? I don't know much about this stuff (obviously!).

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:05

Prince Andrew's statement in fullpublished at 19:01
19:01Breaking

Let's bring you the full statement:

"In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

"With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."

Ha ha ha. The King has finally shafted him.

Yapper73 · 17/10/2025 19:05

Wow! I’m amazed this has happened.

Bumdrops · 17/10/2025 19:05

Hooray 🙌
finally !!!
their smug faces NO MORE !!!!

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:06

I guess he's still Prince Andrew though?

But obvs is out of the Privy Council.

I jolly well hope not !!!

Oh she won't like being plain old Sarah Ferguson 😁

She has been since she got divorced.

Andy likes to refer to her as "the Duchess" when speaking to the sort of people who pay tax.

Titles are in the gift of the monarch.

snemrose · 17/10/2025 19:08

Bloody hell - never thought it would actually happen! Wonder who finally persuaded KC to act.

Hanschristiananderson · 17/10/2025 19:08

Still insisting he’s innocent the slug. Wonderful news though.

NewAgeNewMe · 17/10/2025 19:08

Says he won’t use the titles rather than stripped of them. But I doubt he’s given them up willingly. In fact I’d bet my house on it. And I’m not a gambler.

Edited

No, the Queen said she could be Sarah, Duchess of York. Just as Diana was Diana, Princess of Wales after her divorce.

The abeyance part must mean something, but as he has daughters and then male GC I'm not sure how the title would pass down the line.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2025 19:09

"I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first"

Where's that laugh emoji when you need it?

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for THAT "discussion", but do wonder what he'll do now, if there's nothing left to lose

It is traditionally held by the second son of the monarch, but with all the bad blood between H and the rest of his family, I would think it extremely unlikely that they'd 'upgrade' H&M to a more senior dukedom.

KeepTalkingBeth · 17/10/2025 19:10

About bloody time.

Earlier in the week, I read an excerpt from Virginia Giuffre's book on the Guardian. The most harrowing thing I've read in a long time. She will never get justice now, and Andrew will likely never face questioning. But any association with him will remain toxic. Cutting ties with him is the right thing to do for the royal family PR. I wonder what took them so long.

Ashersmom · 17/10/2025 19:10

I live near York. It's an embarrassment to be associated with any of them.

Peaknique · 17/10/2025 19:10

I wonder where this leave his ex wife.

And obvs, the whole "I have decided to give up my titles" is the King allowing him to back out gracefully.

snemrose · 17/10/2025 19:08

Intense dislike and contempt.

He has unsuccessful been attempting to winkle Andy out of his house at Windsor. And a speed bump has been put in front of it as he likes to roar out of the drive.
