Is Kate Middleton wearing a blonde WIG?

Saw pictures today of Catherine, The Princess of Wales at the Natural History Museum.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-15064693/Princess-Wales-natural-history-museum-return-work-summer.html

I’m glad to see her back to work and looking happy. I’m also stunned by how different her hair looks. I always admired her amazing brown hair, so the blonde is quite the shock. Maybe it’s the wind and the rain creating the effect, but it almost looks like she is wearing a wig?

Just to clarify, I understand she went through cancer treatment and that can affect the hair in many ways. If she is wearing a wig, I really really don’t see a problem with it. If anything, it would be such a boon to cancer patients and people with alopecia etc who do wear wigs frequently. They could see that even wearing a wig you could look as fabulous as Kate.

Either way what is your verdict, wig or her own hair? Does the blonde suit her or do you prefer her as a brunette?

For the Vote:
You are being unreasonable, Kate's hair is all her own.
You are NOT being unreasonable, it's defiantly a wig.

Also as a side note I love her outfit.

Good Heir Day! Kate returns to duties with blonde post-holiday hair

The Princess of Wales joined her husband Prince William to visit the Natural History Museum in London today as they returned to duties after their summer break.

The Kate Middleton force field of protection that gets formed on these threads never fails to amuse me 😂🤣

I reckon she's just decided to dye it blonder because it hides the greys better. It's quite a common thing women do in their 40s.

This.

I'm naturally dark, but the greys were coming thick and fast, so my hairdresser recommended having some highlights put through my hair to blend the grey. I'm a similar colour to Kate.

She looks fab as always

Reallytoughsitu · 04/09/2025 17:05

YABU for having this discussion, given her medical history.

3peassuit · 04/09/2025 17:10

It looks to me like her hair with highlights. Whatever it is or is not, she looks great.

Kate has always had incredibly thick hair, she has no need for extensions. Her actual hair hasn’t thinned, you can see from her scalp.

I know this because my hair has thinned and I use Great lengths hair extensions. I can tell a mile off who is wearing extensions- even if it’s just for thickness.

It’s also not a wig.

What the hairdresser has done, Which Kate doesn’t usually do- is give height to the crown. The roots too have been given lift. This is what makes her hair look different and to some like a wig.

While it is absolutely not a wig or extensions, the hair colour isn’t great. Looks brassy. And even though she has the most gorgeous hair, the long curled hair look is really dated. But we all have bad hair days!! But even on my best day…. My hair could never even compare to Kate’s on her worst!

Edited

Are great lengths hair extensions good?

I doubt very much she would wear a wig because it would start speculation like this!

She has to manage enough comments about her appearance without inviting them by doing something like wearing a wig.

Perhaps she has no choice but to wear one?

She has access to the best colourists in the UK so dyeing her hair is not her problem. She's supposedly had some lowlights for years as shown by the photos over time. Maybe their time in Greece over the summer lightened it more and she added some lighter tones.

Her mother has very dark hair which of course is dyed as she's in her 70s now and would have some grey otherwise.

You win the prize for cramming the most nasty comments into just a few lines.

The poor woman has been very ill.

I like Kate with her dark hair, but everyone likes to play round from time to time. I actually have wondered about Charlotte's hair in a handful of photos, and thought it looked like she'd had a bit of lightener in places.

But so what? Most of the women I know have their hair coloured. She'd be more unusual then not at her age if she didn't.

And if it were a wig, it doesn't take much to connect the dots as to why someone might have a wig after chemo.

She looks well-groomed and elegant and she's out doing a job.

You must mean ‘mousier’ and ‘bland’. Nasty? You have an extremely odd definition of that word.

cumbriaisbest · 04/09/2025 17:17

So why would she choose blonde and not her natural colour as we knew it?

If it's what I think you mean I'm not going to get into a debate about what her previous rounds of chemo may have or not have done.

TatianaTwinkletoes · 04/09/2025 17:22

I used to have very thick, very dark (almost black) hair in my youth until it started going grey in my 40s. As I started colouring it dark to hide the grey it started to look very aging as skin tone also changes with age, so I'm now 'bronde' as my hairdresser calls it - probably lighter than the PoW. I'm not surprised the PoW is lightening her hair, regardless of it being a wig or not; it's her choice, but the dark hair of her 20s probably wouldn't look as flattering now she's in her 40s.

moose17 · 04/09/2025 17:23

I think it just looks a little strange because I’m so used to seeing her with dark hair in the media.
but after all the crap she’s been through lately I hope people can be kind and leave her alone

LlynTegid · 04/09/2025 13:43

Leave her alone, let her carry out her public appearances in peace.

And yet here you are.

The digs on threads like these! She may well be transitioning to natural with greys. It's a hell of a lot less hassle than dyeing your roots every couple of weeks. She looks fab.

HelpHedgehogsByFeedingThemCatBiscuits · 04/09/2025 17:24

I think perhaps a lot of hair extensions?

Hiptothisjive · 04/09/2025 14:27

Who’s Kate Middleton? If you mean Catherine, Princess of Wales then so what. The girl changed her hair, it’s called hair dye, hair extensions and styling. We have all changed our hair colour I’m sure. Leave it alone.

You criticise someone for referring to her as Kate, while describing a 43 year old woman with 3 kids as a girl? Help me understand that.

WhoaaaBodyform · 04/09/2025 17:26

Why would it matter whether she's wearing a wig or not?

3678194b · 04/09/2025 17:26

As soon as I saw the photo, I thought hair extensions. The curls are coming out at the sides from the back, as hair extensions do.

I thought her hair was lovely as it, didn't notice it getting thinner and like she needed extensions.

Diana was an aristocrat to her finger tips. She didn't roll her sleeves up that often, I suspect.

She was a nanny and a nursery school teacher. You don't get more `roll up your sleeves' than that.
You'd be surprised that some aristocrats actually have jobs. Shock horror etc.

She hasn’t dyed her hair. They have been sailing in the Med for a couple of weeks.

I think if we stopped constantly going on about other women's appearances then it might go some way towards helping women not constantly get judged on their appearances.

Calm down. OP just wanted a discussion not to criticise.

I’m sure you have NEVER commented on ANYONE else’s appearance. 😂 It’s just human nature you funny old devil. OP is allowed an opinion.

JaninaDuszejko · 04/09/2025 17:30

She's been dying her hair for over a decade, as can be seen from the abuse she got in the press for having visible roots when pregnant. Wearing a wig is far easier than the upkeep of dyed long hair. FWIW I quite like the idea of her secretly having a natural silver pixie and just wearing brown wigs when working but then being able to walk about unrecognised with her natural hair when off duty.

She only worked in a nursery until she was 20. I’m local to Althorp and back in the day the family socialised in the surrounding villages. Everyone knew the Spencer family very well and locals spent time in the grounds on a regular basis.
The family children still go to one of the local schools.

LoafofSellotape · 04/09/2025 17:32

I don't like the colour at all but she obviously does so that's all that matters. I loved her hair slightly shorter and caramel high lights , I think it was George's first day at school and she was wearing a reddish dress, I thought her hair was stunning then.

ODFOD with your patronising "calm down". Expressing a point of view doesn't mean you're not calm.
