Media vs. Reality: The Royal Meeting No One Cares About

It makes little difference if he meets his father. His role won’t change, and the monarchy or public won’t be affected, yet the media keeps spinning it as if it matters — even though the public doesn’t care.

Prince Harry 'to meet with King Charles' when he returns to UK for anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death - as sources say 'reconciliation is within reach' | Daily Mail Online

Prince Harry 'to meet with King Charles' when he returns to UK

Reconciliation is 'within reach' between the Duke of Sussex and his father following an informal peace summit involving Buckingham Palace officials.

It’s not possible for him to build a relationship with two children who live in another country who he never sees. He also has no relationship with their mother. I read somewhere that this summer Charles spent no time with William and his family at Balmoral. He stayed in Birkhall and kept to himself with Camilla. So if he doesn’t see much of William or his other grandchildren, it is even more unlikely he would see Harry’s.

Not sure that is true . I have a relative who works at Balmoral and , although very discreet , would contradict that.

It was in the media in the last few days. Can’t remember where.

So, no evidence then.

SidekickSylvia · 09/09/2025 09:20

I've just googled and it was reported in The Daily Beast, then repeated in Yahoo News using The Daily Beast as their source.
The Daily Beast's source is an 'anon former staffer' who states 'It is absolutely true' and it's written in the style of a Take a Break story.

Then a couple of other publications ran with it. The Royal Observer believes it's due to 3 areas; Harry's potential return/reunion, Charles' schedule/health, and that Charles needs to modernise the monarchy.

The only thing any of them can say with certainty is that they were all at Balmoral at the same time.

MissFenellaPrism · 09/09/2025 09:24

I find it hard to believe that Charles would not see his grandchildren at some point during the summer holiday. Bearing in mind his health issues, and that of his daughter in law.
It sounds like negative gossip intended to smear Charles as "uncaring".

As I said earlier , my very discreet relative completely contradicted that report . No further details sorry !

That's ok! It just substantiated what makes sense, really. Of course KC met his grandchildren.

I noticed the same thing, very little coverage, despite the announcement of the visit to the Queens grave with a wreath and Harry manipulating a conversation with a kid about brothers not getting along.

I did read Edward Lane Fox has also quit Invictus, I think Invictus is going to need a whole restructure if it wants to survive.

I saw a headline in my newsfeed about Harry talking about brothers not getting on - I didn't click.

Maybe coverage is less because there's less interest. I mean there's a lot hitting the news cycle - Cabinet reshuffle after shocks and wars and Trump stuff in USA.

I've no idea how much Charles see his UK grandkids - only thing I know is Louis often seems happy enough to sit on his lap at some state events - and while he may be a kid who happy doing that with anyone IME more likely he knows his GF well enough to have some bond to be happy to do so.

upinaballoon · 09/09/2025 12:08

Birkhall is on the Balmoral Estate and a little map suggests 16 minutes away from Balmoral House so I expect different members of a family could stay in one or other place and still spend some leisure time and some meal times together.
That's what my source said, anyway.

Baital · 09/09/2025 12:15

It's like the Windsor estate and Sandringham estate isn't it? A variety of properties and different 'bits' of the family often have their own base. They can meet up as a large group but also have some space from each other.

The trouble is, Harry only wants the former, the one with the money and the status and the purpose. If he was remotely interested in genuine reconciliation he’d be a lot more contrite and less inclined to blow up at his father and make demands.

Harry can’t help but use the opportunity to harangue and bully his father and I’m sure Charles is wise to this. Reconciliation with Harry also means allowing Meghan back in and C has made it clear he doesn’t care for her. A and L don’t feature at all, despite Harry’s attempt to use them as bargaining chips. Charles is not going to be interested in building a relationship with two unknown and distant grandchildren at this time in his life and with other pressing demands, including maintaining his own health and well being.

Sadly I can’t see any benefit to anyone but Harry of a reconciliation between them, and I don’t believe it will ever happen.

An insightful post, prelovedusername, not least about Charles's likely interest in grandkids he never sees anyway. I do get tired of the endless mawkish reports - based on no evidence at all - about how grieved he is over not knowing them, but then that's the media for you

The only thing I'd add is that whether or not a return for Harry would involve bringing Meghan too would depend on whether she still has a use for him, and that's something which only time will tell

prelovedusername · 09/09/2025 13:55

There are posters on these threads who feel sure Charles desperately misses the chance to connect with his American grandchildren. I honestly don’t see it. He comes across as a very caring man but also quite a self focused one who enjoys quiet, solitary time, not the hustle and bustle of family life.

I don’t blame or judge him for that, A and L are children in the abstract and it was up to their parents to establish and build proper relationships from birth. They chose a different path and now they’re stuck with the consequences.

jeffgoldblum · 09/09/2025 13:57

You cannot miss what you have never had.

jamnpancakes · 09/09/2025 16:36

There are many families with estranged sections. It's just life. Sometimes there's too much water under that bridge. People adapt.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 09/09/2025 17:26

I see Harry has donated 1.1 million “ of his own money” to children in need

I’m assuming he’s settled his 1.5 million costs for his security court case to reimburse the tax payer

He must be doing well to be able to afford all that 🤔 on top of all his obvious expenses

ThePoshUns · 09/09/2025 17:35

And of course he made sure we all know about it. Probably a tax dodge.

prelovedusername · 09/09/2025 17:41

You can certainly see he has a new PR team in place. They’re throwing everything at improving his popularity rating.

Thedom · 09/09/2025 17:56

I can’t put my finger on why it does not feel genuine?

jeffgoldblum · 09/09/2025 18:03

Is it an actual donation or more of a Disney elephant or amber heard donation?
has he paid his bill for his court cases yet?

ThePoshUns · 09/09/2025 18:09

Every photo of him he has a massive grin on his face, he’s really trying hard to evoke his old cheeky chappy persona . Apparently only about 100 people
turned up to see him in Nottingham.

Mylovelygreendress · 09/09/2025 18:12

He is nowhere near the top story in either the DM or BBC . In the DM he is further down than Katie Price also Maureen Lipman’s wedding !

And I read twitter most of them were holding signs for a different charity.

hHe looks very awkward in the few snippets I have seen of him,

Mylovelygreendress · 09/09/2025 18:31

Harry arrived 45 minutes late as he was stuck in traffic . No police escort !

His team should have budgeted more time for traffic as the strike was well publicised.

I guess he must miss the competence of the men in grey!

True! He must miss being important, too.

1.1 million is very randomly specific. Why not £1 million or 1.5?

It does feel a bit like blood money, like he can buy back some of his previous popularity. It feels like the tax dodge Beckham did by donating his PSG money to charity to avoid the French government looking at his USA money.

I guess Children in Need is good because it distributes money to smaller charities. That's good.
