I don’t really understand. Meghan’s 4 car motorcade? Yes, ridiculous. But not paid for by me in any way so she can fill her boots. 3 holidays in 3 months by the Wales’? Also ridiculous. But paid for by me so my business.

@MunnygirlYou appear to have an uncanny back for reading people’s thoughts! I do find using words like “hate” and “adore” about people we know very little about very strange.

That's because most rational posters don't use those verbs.

CurlewKate · 14/04/2025 17:43

@mainecooncatonahottinroof
“They can have as many holidays as they want if it benefits their health and wellbeing because they have a long path ahead of them!”

Well yes. But you can’t also call them hardworking. Or talk about how normal and down to earth they are.

@MunnygirlLegitimate criticism is not “slagging off”. And saying there is something unacceptable in the Wales’ taking 3 holidays in 4 months is legitimate criticism.

I took three holidays in three months last year. Is there anything wrong with that?!

CurlewKate · 14/04/2025 17:47

@Munnygirldid!🤣🤣🤣

As you say As a result of their calm, no-drama, wholesome family image approach

Don't you think thats fake to project a certain image they want the world to see 🤔 or you could say putting on a show, the image they show us isn't reality then. They might not be drama free or calm behind the image 💁‍♀️

And is it any of our business if there is?

How do you know it's "fake"? Maybe this is how they are at least the majority of the time. Aren't most people conscious of their 'image' to some degree???

So you're paying into the Duchy of Cornwall now? How quaint!

I don't know what they do so I don't know whether they are hard working or not. Neither do you.

They're normal and down to earth for aristocrats.

I had a lovely time but you're no more paying for the Waleses holidays than you were for mine!

(Actually you probably were, now I think of it - I'm a public servant 😂) Shoot me now! 😁

Well as the usual retort to that on this board is 'Well they put themselves put there in the public eye so they will be commented on.'

I didn't say it was fake, I was simply saying if they are putting our a certain image then does that poster who made the comment consider that fake. Because if we don't really know who they really are who is to say as it often said on this board that they are good, wholesome etc.

There is a difference between still being your true self and protecting your image vs pretending your this or that.

I’m assuming they had security on holiday? I certainly hope they did. We pay for their security.

I'm struggling to follow your post but I don't really care if they're 'fake' and are at each others' throats behind closed doors! They are allowed a personal life. We don't 'own' them. We can only have a perception based on what we see in public, where people are usually on their best behaviour, or from commentary shared by people who know or have met them.

W&C have been in the public eye as a couple since their relationship was outed in 2003. If the media could not find drama in over two decades in public life, I would wager that there is little to no drama to be had.

Moreover, as PPoW, W&C are part of the political structure of the UK so like any politician, inevitably W&C will construct an image. The image that they have gone with is universal...everyone wants to have happy familial relations.

The late QE2 projected a calm, no-drama, wholesome family image. Because she projected timeless values, she was able to navigate dramatic social changes while building up a massive soft power arsenal unmatched in our era.

We witnessed elected Heads of State happily sitting on a bus, just to be at the funeral of a relatively powerless constitutional monarch. At what other occasion would sitting Heads of State set aside their motorcades and outriders to collectively get on busses to attend a State Funeral in any other country on the planet? That was soft power personified, which QE2 wielded to great effect on behalf of the realms and the Commonwealth.

CurlewKate · 14/04/2025 18:21

@mainecooncatonahottinroofI have no desire to pay any money at all for any aspect of the Royal Family. You seem to enjoy it. I think the very least they can do is pretend to be doing some work for the money. You don’t. So there’s no discussion to be had, really!

BemusedAmerican · 14/04/2025 18:57

No, the city of NYC paid for the NYPD presense in that 4 car motorcade.

Qe don't H&M either but doesn't stop all the ridiculous comments they too are allowed a personal life.

No, the city of NYC paid for the NYPD presense in that 4 car motorcade.

And they shouldn’t have too. They need to focus on protecting the public not escorting someone who doesn’t need it to the theatre

I don't feel the need to justify my views to you! I really don't have to talk about medal tables for Invictus competitors.
I find your views bizarre so touché !

As I have said a few times, I found the visit to Ukraine with Invictus quite moving and I think Harry did well there.

Edited

Well I fine it a bit bizarre is that you pontificate about the wonderful work Harry has done for IG but can’t name one single thing about the participants of which the games are supposed to be about. Very odd

CurlewKate · 14/04/2025 19:18

@MunnygirlThere is a difference between legitimate criticism and “slagging off”!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2025 19:20

I have watched a fair bit of footage of Harry's Ukraine visit and it was really quite moving, the time he spent with amputees and doctors in the rehabiltation centre, the Invictus heroes, the way he engaged with all those in Lviv, it was great, and to get endless criticism for it

In fairness, @TulipTiptoer, I don't think many have crriticised what he sctuslly did in Ukraine, though some have said it was just for PR and many have drawn comparissons between the dangers of a war zone and Harry's complaints about the relatively benign UK

Personally I thought the best tthings about it were that - just for once - he didn't do any silly interviews centreing himself, and that Meghan wasn't there to turn it into a fashion show
I'd say let's hope his lasts, but can't see it somehow

Munnygirl · 14/04/2025 19:22

CurlewKate · 14/04/2025 19:18

So why is it what you say legitimate about W &C and other comments about h and M slagging off? Your comment is no more legitimacy than anyone else.
