@potsandmudThat looks like a favour to someone. She fails to mention that SC was forced to go out and defend herself after a total (coerced?) mutiny. Strange article. The facts simply are not in there - least of all a mention of the Etonian friend… instead she has just gone for SC jugular.

So that's two people who'll be gifted with their own bodyweight in spreadable jam soon then.

Goldusttwin · 01/04/2025 15:55

I’m going to go there & be the one to comment on appearance, looks & what they were wearing (unless others have already). Bcos I think it’s also relevant here. On top of everything else re Meghan wanting to hog the limelight etc I do think she was threatened by Sophie’s appearance, proximity to her husband & that she looked better in her strikingly similar outfit to her. Territorial, rude & self obsessed. And agree with the commentary that Harry is her willing flying monkey who seems unable to understand that not everyone holds her in the same deluded regard that he does.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/04/2025 15:59

I must admit if I were he in the midst of a controversy about a charity , I wouldn't necessarily be drawing attention to my green travelling initiative

From the last thread, but probably just thrashing around for credibility with one of the only things he has left, @BasiliskStare

Doubt he'll find it pretending to care about green travel, and anyway I thought Travalyst was more or less moribund, but I guess that at least it keeps him occupied

wordler · 01/04/2025 15:59

It’s almost impossible to believe that the day after we hear how Harry tried to strong arm someone into publicly speaking up in defense of Meghan during a media storm that they didn’t see how bad it would look to have someone defend Harry using clearly scripted and fed language the next day.

It’s a masterclass in how not to run public relations during a crisis.

They didn’t have even make sure he put it into his own language so that the ‘H’ mistake wouldn’t have been there.

I admit I’m gripped like the best car crash soap opera by these two. I can’t think of a similar example of someone in the public eye making the same mistakes over and over again.

I have started to feel a little sorry for them. I mean they are their own worst enemy but it must be tough.

RandyRedHumpback · 01/04/2025 16:00

WRT the Marina Hyde article, this is my opinion. I think the Guardian have a dilemma. They have been after the RF for some time now. The rift with M&H, especially the alleged racism, has helped to damage the RF reputation and open minds for other aspects of the RF to be criticised and a republican mindset to take hold. It's also given them a considerable American/H&M supporting readership. In other circumstances, they would give priority to a woman of colour of Sophie Chandauka's experience and reputation their full backing. But the Guardian have their own hierarchy of priorities, and so they need to retain H&M's credibility because it forms part of their overall agenda.

We have seen it before when the Guardian have disbelieved woc and women in general when their claims do not match the hierarchical or ideological agenda of the Guardian. The WiSpa and Cologne/NYE scandals come to mind.

AtIusvue · 01/04/2025 16:00

So obviously we don’t know who said the Rhodesia slur.

However……

  • Dr Sophie contacted at Trustee in Nov regarding this issue.
  • Baroness Chaulker resigned Nov 2024
  • Baroness Chaulker in a Times article described Dr Sophie's leadership as dictatorial.
  • The slur likened Dr Sophie’s leadership to white rule in Rhodesia.

Just sayin’

I think you're right. I try not to believe that people are motivated by such insecurity but yes, Dr SC, on top of being one hell of a high achiever, is also very attractive and elegant. I'm sure this would not go down well with Meghan.

ViolasandViolets · 01/04/2025 16:02

The thing about ‘boring mummy Kate’ plus William vs ‘glamorous Meghan’ and ‘fun Harry’ is Meghan completely failed to understand the serious constitutional position of the Monarchy (how precarious that role is). Sure the public might think glamour and fun make interesting viewing but the public are also very keen on watching celebrities eating bugs.

potsandmud · 01/04/2025 16:04

I know someone who was asked to do the comms job going back a few years now. She was actually looking for work and had the right credentials and this was before it all went south… I don’t think they will have anyone decent to do their bidding now. It’s a career ending job. Either that or your sanity I’m sure.

potsandmud · 01/04/2025 16:05

I mean she only had to look at Fergie in Its a Knockout to see how badly this could go…

Quite. I've seen the Guardian tie itself in knots frequently over the years, and it can be amusing to observe. They (like all papers) have a definite agenda and it most certainly does get in the way of the unbiased journalism they claim so pompously.

I think this incident will be awkward for many who like to see things in black and white (no pun intended). Anyone who really believes that M and H are champions of anti-racism will be scratching their heads as to what stance to take.

Those of us who see through the hypocritical and self-serving duo will be less surprised!

It’s a knockout was a classic example of something ‘fun’ being the antithesis of what the public want from the monarchy. Everyone cringes at the thought of it.

wordler · 01/04/2025 16:12

I’m imaging Mike Tindall on the family group chat getting grief for doing IACGMOH and it not being dignified for someone connected to the royal family.

Mike: four words… It’s a Royal Knockout

I agree. The Rhodesia Independence thing was also a long time ago, something someone of Chalker's would have remembered well.

Edited to add that Chalker was first over the starting line to attack SC in The Times after the princes had released thrir statement.

I have no idea what Catherine is like as a person. She comes over very well, but of course, that's a carefully curated public persona.

But whatever she is like in private she's won my sympathy and admiration over the past few years by her dignified and restrained behaviour in the eye of the storm created by H & M. The horrible personal attacks and slurs (I'd never forgive anyone who slandered me as a racist on a world stage) and, frankly, character assassination as well as the vile SM campaign waged against her even in the light of her illness by their supporters (with no word from H & M to call them off the attack) would have broken many people. She really has exemplifed Michelle Obama's wise counsel that 'when they go low, we go high'.

The walkabout after the Queen's death must have been hell for Catherine (and M too, but I don't feel sorry for her), but she kept it together. I don't know if I could have done that!

I've never been clear about what it is that Travalysta actually does, even after reading their website.

On top of everything else re Meghan wanting to hog the limelight etc I do think she was threatened by Sophie’s appearance, proximity to her husband & that she looked better in her strikingly similar outfit to her.

I agree. Not only was M not the most important woman present, she was also not the best dressed.

IdaGlossop · 01/04/2025 16:15

Just seen this thread, having started Sentebale #4 myself. I've asked for it to be taken down.

Here's a websalad webcam so we know what's happening in Montecito.

Harry and Meghan are emerging right now from their separate wings, to connect in the garden and gather lemons in the morning sun. Very soon, we will see a new post on Asever's Instagram feed: Meghan's elegant left hand gripping her 'Made in Monte*hitshow' paring knauf, her right cupping a buxom citrus, luscious in its ovalness. It will be in the details. H's soothing voice will be heard, his ginger beard unrevealed, for he is the H who is heard and not seen, the Harkle who is the harbinger of riches to come: 'My love, zest away, for yours is to sever, as ever, the pith from the pulp, the wheat from the chaff. You are a fisher of fruit.' Papa's camera pans to Archie and Lily, a precious, precocious prince and princess frolicking a-like to Spring lambs on a rainbow fruit platter and elevating, poltergeistly, to the Cali clouds above. Meghan's tones intone, warbling in their woodnotes wild, 'My most important role is being a mom.' Poor mom Megs has played her last act, for her kids are kidnapped, melded with the Montecito mountains. Time to call Backgrid, 'so they know I'm thinking about them'.

Christ. I’d love to know what else is on the elevating the ordinary list. Life will never be the same again thanks to Jam jars elevating one’s existence. It would be wrong to put biros in I think. Maybe a quill or two.

LemonLeaves · 01/04/2025 16:23

At the end of the previous thread, someone mentioned the celeb gossip sites. Some of them have undergone quite an interesting volte face in recent years - Lainey Gossip being a good example.

I don't know if it's still there but at one point there was a fairly lengthy mea culpa about the site's former descriptions of celebrities (nicknaming Jessica Simpson as 'Porny', was one memorable descriptor) and how this no longer aligned with societal expectations on 'be kind' and so on. The problem being that the judgement is still there but instead of being overt, it's now masked behind a purity spiral where people are judged against their perceived social justice shortfalls.

Having signed on as a Sussex supporter, LG will invariably find reasons no matter how tenuous, to judge them as right and hard done by, and everyone else as wrong.

jeffgoldblum · 01/04/2025 16:23

She'd definitely know all about it as Chalker was in parliament from 1974 onwards and was a junior minister in the Thatcher government at the time the Lancaster House agreement was signed in 1979.

I know Charles is rumoured to have nicknamed Meghan 'tungsten' but I think it's Catherine who has a core of steel.

CathyorClaire · 01/04/2025 16:29

Huh. This is all moving too fast for me to keep up but I gather Harold has now rather unwisely turned the spotlight on Travagrift straight after getting a mate to rend a shirt and wail on his behalf in the press?

I think his week can best be summed up as 'Waaagh Revisited'
