A genuinely nice and friendly thread about Meghan

Hi everyone! As suggested on another thread, I’m starting this to provide some balance to the MM / MS threads which have been perceived as bullying and not joyful.

So please feel free to join in and share something pleasant and joyful about your day or any comments about MM / MS as an antidote if the other threads have caused you upset. Please be nice!

I’ll begin by saying that writing notes by hand is a lovely thing to do, and conveys sincerity beyond any effusive email or text message. And nice handwriting is a bonus! Hand cramp is a problem of the digital age.

Also, I’ve watched two episodes of the series now, and I love the garden plants in California. Waiting for the spring to bloom here!

Interesting how you abhor bullying yet you call anyone who dares to disagree with you a fanatic when you yourself seem to display that behaviour yourself. It’s quite amusing really

Why are you and your little chums trying to derail the thread? Aren't there 1000 threads already on this forum where you can endlessly prattle on about how you all just hate hate hate Meghan Markle?

You may want to note I did t say anything about Megan but commented on your own comment on “fanatics”

Sure. Moving on...

Didn’t

I haven't seen her NF series but plan to watch over the weekend, I enjoy watching pretty people doing lovely things.

Do watch if you get time! I've watched it all (whilst fast forwarding through the bits that aren't of interest to me). It is pretty people doing lovely things. Loved the Ep with Roy Choi and loved the drinks in lovely glasses!

It's made me think about presentation and big platters, and dressing bits and bobs!

Genuinely sad that people can't help themselves.

The OP set out to create ONE space to say nice, supportive things about a much-maligned woman and the shrews just can't think "you know what, I'll sit this one out".

So, to try and bring it back to some positivity - I really like MM and Prince Harry. They both seem like decent people, who wisely took themselves off to try and have a life of their own. I hope they succeed in everything they do and are very happy doing it.

all well and good so drop the royal titles??

garlicandsapphires · 21/03/2025 23:48

Best ignore the derailers Wink

HeddaGarbled · 21/03/2025 23:58

There’s quite an effort going on here (and has been for several years) to pretend that Mumsnet is a unique hotbed of Meghan-hate. But WLM has been universally panned. The reviews are terrible everywhere.

Mumsnet is actually one of the few places where some posters try to find something good to say about it.

MissMoan · 22/03/2025 00:35

I am neither a MM supporter nor a hater. I found some aspects of the show quite refreshing (Meghan accepting her limitations and reaching out to others for advice). Although saying that, I think we could start a drinking game with the number of times she used the word 'elevate'.

I do think that some people will take the tiniest thing she says or does, and escalate it by implying some deep, dark, underhanded meaning behind it, which is utter nonsense.

I have never seen anyone post that mumsnet is a ‘unique hotbed of hate.’ The Mumsnet Royal Family forum is not unique in this regard.

Here’s The View talking about the Gwyneth Paltrow VF article - what GP had to say about Meghan when asked. They also talk about their experiences of women supporting women. And circle back around to Meghan.

But why do you care? Why is someone having a royal title of such concern to you? And why her, why do you hate her so much?

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 22/03/2025 06:29

And on the one thread set up to say positive things, why do people feel the need to wade in and slag her off?

BasiliskStare · 22/03/2025 06:37

I have criticised MM on these boards but I very much hope I have not tipped over into batshittery or bullying - I have tried not to. Anyway that's more for others to decide - just my intention from my perspective.

Anyway I watched WLM. What I liked was 1. It is lovely to look at. The scenery , the shots of the garden etc I thought was pure escapism in a harmless way. 2. I think she is good at assembling things to look pretty. So I liked her charcuterie and crudite boards . Now I am old enough (and probably lazy enough ) that all this is old hat to me , in the sense that I was probably doing this stuff whilst MM was in nappies. I'm all for a starter / lunch which is more arranging nice things to look a bit special than fiddly cooking. So I don't care that is not cooking & I think , although I think Martha Stewart was the doyenne of presentation there is room for more than she - fair enough if she wants to make a pretty board of things. 3. & I know I am something of a lone voice here <whispers> I quite liked the sound track ha ha. I thought it sort of went with the easy viewing / easy listening vibe. But I know some critics hated it. 4. I don't care that she was cooking in white shirts and cream trousers etc . We know this isn't real and it did suit the aesthetic.
OTOH - I don't think she is particularly charismatic, or a natural and talented presenter & her voice irritates me. But I'm not keen on that Californian slightly drawling way of speaking by anyone (I did look up vocal fry and I'm still not sure whether that's what she has but no matter ) I am , for balance, equally irritated by a rising inflection which I don't think she has. But those are purely personal opinions. Do I think she could have got this series if she weren't married to H which got them the NF deal. In truth I don't think she'd have been in with a shout, but she is and they did that deal and I'd rather she was doing this than slating the RF. Actually I didn't like the before / during after comments - didn't need to be said.
I thought the bits where she was learning from the chefs were much much better than her guests gushing over her fabulosity & I'd have liked to see more of that.
The product placement , well , once you know she's using this as a big As ever advert , that is either annoying or not. I don't particularly care now I know that's what it is. Now here's the bitchy dagger to the heart - she used too many flower sprinkles for my liking - There , I've said it. Shoot me 😂
I can see why it was panned . And not just by people who "hate" Meghan , pretty much universally - even by the likes of Richard Osman , Marina Hyde who tend to be really even handed. But if you like Meghan (and plenty do ) it was fine. I'm not keen on her but even I found some bits likeable - I really liked the John Lennon manque beekeeper. I'd watch a programme by him any day.

I hope this counts in the spirit of the thread.

Sunflowergirl1 · 22/03/2025 06:48

I don’t particularly like her but more based on the bullying of staff investigation. Unfortunately that type of behaviour is more acceptable in the US but not in the U.K., despite some other members of the Royal Family being experts at it themselves.

The reality is she is always going to be despised due to numerous things, ie British media don’t like her now including Harry’s constant legal cases. Her attacks on Kate was always going to be disastrous. The alleged issue about children’s skin colour…etc, which was outed in such a staged manner and faked Oprah shock!.

However, draw the parallels to Wallace Simpson. She was universally hated by people of that generation. I recall my great grandmother telling me about the era and she still despised her in the 1980s for what she did (not much about the King of course who had a long history of not behaving well). There was a feeling she ruined the brothers and families life especially with his stammer, that led to his early death ( more due to heavy smoking) but thank goodness she did as I wouldn’t have wanted to think what would have happened otherwise.

The sensible thing would have been moving to the USA and living a quiet life and continue the Queens never comment mantra. Things would have died down but unfortunately despite apparently wanting to lead a quiet life, they both seem incredibly publicity hungry…and I’m afraid that is never ever going to work.

PrettayGood · 22/03/2025 06:49

I’ve never understood the bitchiness about Meghan on here, she seems like a nice person to me. I haven’t watched her Netflix show, but good luck to her.

I thought she was an asset to the RF; someone who’d actually had a career and had made her own way.

I’ve said this before, but I know someone that lives near them, he’s an ex-pat, part of the polo set, and sees them sometimes. They’re very popular and well-liked.

Samcro · 22/03/2025 08:19

well no surprise. a positive thread about Meghan is hijacked.
its not like there are not 100's of negative threads available to post on.

Good morning! Some of you are very early for a Saturday :) I’m just saying hi so as not to seem like I’ve run off after posting.

To recap, or perhaps put it a bit more succinctly,

  1. This was not meant to be a thread to mindlessly big up Meghan.
  2. I don’t have enough knowledge of the details of the bullying claims by her staff, although I am aware that there are multiple claims. I also don’t know very much about Royal Family dynamics and how the media game is played. This means that my comments will probably be based on what has been proven or what I have directly seen (i.e. from interviews but not from newspaper or tabloid reporting of the interviews). I apologise for not commenting on any bullying accusations but I don’t feel qualified to do so and also I don’t think I can change anyone’s ideas and perceptions just by joining in this discussion.
  3. MOST IMPORTANTLY: I hope this thread is a place for the POSTERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING nice about WLM / As ever without having to get into an argument. That’s all. There are definitely nice positive comments about WLM / As ever on the other threads, I’ve seen them. But those comments are lost in the arguments because without fail, there will be someone accusing someone else of nitpicking and then any useful stuff about rainbow fruits gets muddied.

I have read all the posts here so far, though I haven’t replied to all of them. I am not going to try and moderate the posts or placate / convince anyone regarding my own beliefs.

But I do think that if I mention that I liked the little patinated metal cups in which the candles were poured, that someone else who agrees (or disagrees) will be able to chime in REGARDING the suitability of the cup material / diameter of cup, length of wick. Please try to keep this for simple and useful tips that you've gleaned or your own tips from experience about having a joyful pocket of time doing joyful things.

I don’t have a herb garden, but my aged rosemary has been thriving despite the freezing temperatures, so I have lopped a few stems off to elevate my empty peanut butter jar. And now I will stop waffling, and go and make some real sticky waffles with Belgian sugar nibs for crunch.

Have a lovely day, and once again, thank you to the posters who have made a big effort to contribute to the spirit of this thread!

My joyful news today is that I transferred some cheesy wotsits from one bag to another, then I got a sticky label and wrote on it 'wotsits' and attached the label to the bag with the wotsits in!! Very satisfying!!!

Tonight I plan on trying Vanessa's poh noodelles! Can't wait!!

And tomorrow I'm going to dance in the garden, picking flowers and sprinkling daisy petals on my toast and marmalade!!!

How utterly splendid

"Hand cramp is a problem of the digital age"? You never had to do any handwritten essay exams, I'm guessing?

Sorry had to laugh! , I too had awful cramp and pain in my fingers from writing handwritten essays and letters constantly! 😀
