I think this is a very traditional household. Titles, deference, nannies, housekeepers. Domestic roles for females, the expectation to serve men.....

Don’t forget the candlelight suppers.

Me! I tried every trick in the (Annabel Karmel) book to get my dcs to eat fruit and vegetables. In retrospect, it's incredibly naive to think a child is going to eat something because of an 'elevated' presentation. The trick might once or twice but not more than that.

I agree , you can dress food up as faces , ladybirds, try the aeroplane or train in the tunnel trick, if a child doesn't want to eat something, they won't. ' Elevating' food just to be met with clenched teeth and glued together lips is a waste of time.

(That was from Town and Country’s review, by the way).

Late on the same review we are told “They discuss the concept of kintsugi and Tsai tells her, “Things that have lived and been dropped and put back together again are more beautiful,” to which Meghan starts to tear up”.

A concept so unhackneyed that literally the exact same message using kintsugi as a metaphor featured in in Call The Midwife last night….

Classic MM - never in the vanguard always in the guards van.

BasiliskStare · 03/03/2025 22:43

@Serenster "“Meghan began to get tearful” though? Sounds a bit like deliberately tugging at her audience’s heartstrings to remind them all how much she’s been through…"

Didn't M herself say one of her acting skills was being able to summon tears at will , especially out of her left eye. (cf the late Queen's funeral )

Meghan actually says this 🤢

“When I’m cooking bacon, my kitchen very immediately becomes full of [my] husband and three dogs … My bacon brings all the boys to the yard.”

'Very immediately'? Did they not teach Meghan about tautology at Northwestern?

“They discuss the concept of kintsugi and Tsai tells her, “Things that have lived and been dropped and put back together again are more beautiful,” to which Meghan starts to tear up”

Let me guess, she was thinking about herself. Silly me. I thought she might have been weeping with regret at all the friends and relatives and employees she's dropped along the way, perhaps hoping that they've managed to put themselves back together again. The tears could be tears of remorse, or regret, or self-pity. Who knows with Meghan Markle.

"One tear, left eye" - who said that?

To be honest it doesn’t sound like she even feeds her own children.

Apparently when her 3 & 5 year old children are sick she has them “sipping bone broth”. Now I have never subscribed to the notion that she doesn’t actually have any children but if anything was going to make me wonder…😁

Edited

This & ‘only if I am allowed to’ & ‘Don’t work too hard’ hint at authoritarian parenting to me.

It’s just stock. Beef stock usually.

Mrs Beaton would have recommended “Beef Tea” in Victorian times.

Bovril in the 20th century. And calves' foot jelly as a child-friendly way to get that beef protein inside children. My dad used to put a spoonful in a mug of full fat hot milk and drink it before going to bed. It's not a habit I have copied. Ovaltine was as much as I could bear. Horlicks was too much.

I honestly think her account of her idyllic family life is just a complete fantasy. I suspect there is very little truth to it at all. It all just reads rather weirdly.

This will out me to those who care: it was around 2015 that I started requesting that my drinks not be served in a Mason jar pleaseandthankyou. Not because they're naff (which they are) but because I go out to eat and drink and spend x5 the money to NOT eat and drink from my old glass jars and mis-matched crockery.

This is all sounding a hundred times worse than I dreaded.

No, I took prefer actual glasses and mugs. The dollar store sells Mason jars with straw holes, apparently for summer drinks.

I store pasta, flour, sugar, tea, etc. in my mason jars. I got 2 dozen 4 oz wide ones about 10 years ago that I can stack on top of each other in a drawer and use for loose leaf tea and bulk spices.

I agree. Also if you look carefully at her eyes and face, she looks blank and absent. Her face looks so different I wonder if she’s had surgery.

It brings to mind the dancing in the street like when Mandela was released; and the pilot crouching down in first class, doffing his cap and thanking her for her service to the UK on her freedom flight.

T minus 9 hours everyone. I hope I can sleep. 😂.

Just catching up.....day dates?!!!!! Seriously... Day dates with My Husband. Who says things like that??!! Harry must think she is a bit much!

Definitely the worst outfit she’s wore by far.

Ghastly outfit.

Yes, this interview has the same sort of vibe as the 'Cut' interview, but since this is 'People', a PR outlet, it doesn't feature the rather funny sarky spin as in 'The Cut'. Just let Meghan talk, and this sort of elevated tripe spills out.

I increasingly think she is a fantasist, living in her own world. I suspect both she and the man she refers to only as 'my husband' both have a rather tenuous relationship with reality. We saw that for Harry with 'Spare', now we're seeing it for Meghan Sussex. Don't call her Markle, whatever you do!

Also from People “And my gosh, in 10 years, Archie will be driving!”
Not only that - At some point very possibly there are two unwitting souls out there who will end up with MM as a mother in law.

Oh god 😬
