The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

1000 replies

veraswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 10:54

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

What I find baffling is how very strongly people can feel about a couple who have no influence on their lives at all. They only come into my mind when I see a thread on here. I'm a Republican, and despise the entire lot of them, but M&H would be quite far down my list of people to load into the tumbril simply because they have no power.

As you were."

There's no need for your little line at the end especially as you have just said you weren't referring to this thread. What is odd is posting on a thread then saying you weren't referring to it 🙄

Are you saying you have no opinion of anyone who has no effect on your life then ? That's a heck of a load of people !

Lmao there’s an internet k-hole you don’t want to go down.

Not laughing myself but you're right that I don't want to go there.
It all sounds bizarre.

Oh dear. Clearly I'm lacking in writing skills today.

My first post had two paragraphs. The first referred to this thread, the second was general. That wasn't clear at all, my apologies.

The "as you were" was to indicate there was no need for your objection towards my post and fell free to carry on. It wasn't meant to be anything else. So, as you were.

Why would you?

49% of that is made up in your head. And another 49% is stuff other people have made up in their heads that you've read. 2% might be objectively true.

Disagree. I think that post was spot on.

I doubt many want them to be carted away or to fade into obscurity. They’re such a great comical spectacle.

A bit like the Kardashians or Gemma Collins.

BusyExpert · 24/01/2025 13:13

Nonsense and if they do not want people to speculate they shouldn't seek attention.

NormaMajors1992coat · 24/01/2025 13:17

So you agree it's nasty to comment on then divorcing? What and if she has had plastic surgery etc

I think there's a difference between spreading completely baseless rumours that Kate is off somewhere having plastic surgery, and commenting on anyone who has clearly had work done.

Similarly there is a difference between spreading a baseless rumour that a couple is divorcing, and discussing a VF article about one half of a celebrity couple trying to flog a book about divorcing the other half.

Hopefully you can see the difference between spreading lies and speculation, and discussing things that have actually happened?

If you're asking if I think people should be allowed to make up rumours about Meghan and spread them around the internet, the answer is no.

BusyExpert · 24/01/2025 13:18

the babies were I'm sure born from IVF. Nothing to be ashamed of, it's the gaslighting that is the problem.

and clearly you know little about normal pregnancy. I have not yet met a midwife that thinks she was pregnant.

Yet it's not a fact there is a divorce book being flogged as you word it. And there has been on this board speculation and comments on them divorcing before the VF article. Numerous times, when they left the UK people commenting on how they won't be married for long, she will divorce him etc. What was that all based on? Nothing.

Before the VF article on this board when there were threads about them out and about separately at events there was numerous comments speculating it's because they are going to get divorced. Just because they didn't both attend a few events. That's what that speculation was based on...a bunch of nothing.

Those are baseless rumours...nasty isn't it.

BusyExpert · 24/01/2025 13:24

no it wasn't obvious in her face or body shape afterwards. she really isn't as good with smoke and mirrors as ou suggest.....

Are you confusing IVF with surrogacy?
of course she was pregnant. What a post.

So you are not sure how they were born ivf or not od ehatever the hell your point is. You have no proof to the truth. Yet she is definitely gaslighting.

If you’re mixing up IVF and surrogacy I really hope you weren’t my midwife for my two normal pregnancies.

Yet it's a rumours, it's not a fact there is a divorce book being flogged is their.

The fact I was referring to is that VF went to print with the story of Meghan and the divorce book. Which they did. It's ridiculous to think people shouldn't be able to discuss that fact - if VF published a story about Kate trying to sell a book about her divorce from William I'd discuss that too!

And there has been on this board speculation and comment som then divorcing before the VF article.

I don't know what you coming at me for, I've already said I don't think people should spread baseless rumours.

So, you're "sure" the babies were "born from IVF"?
And you don't know any midwives who think Meghan was pregnant?
Are you talking about surrogacy rather than IVF?
What "evidence" are you actually talking about?
All this mystique about how midwifes can just tell is nonsense, imo.
No more than a doctor or an actual OBGYN could "tell".
I know quite a few of all three and none of them would suggest they can spot pregnancy by watching someone on television or seeing pictures in the papers or watching garbage on the internet.

He flounced off because the late Queen said no to his half in/ half out proposal

As anyone with half a brain cell could have predicted she would.

And Charles and William aren't half-in, half-out running commercial enterprises ie the Duchies each generating a £20 annual income? And with special tax breaks!

But that’s ok I suppose because it is couched in acceptable terms and hidden behind a wall of smoke.

I think people are focusing on the wrong things entirely!

What are H&M doing in comparison that’s so wrong? I genuinely don’t get it.

And of course op the tabloids were generating hideous stuff about H & M because of the court case! That was pointed out way back in this thread or another. That’s why I think we need to be so cautious about which stories we give credence to and repeat on here.

Riapia · 24/01/2025 13:35

How did two rather unremarkable people gathered attention?
Neither of them is charismatic.
He’s a minor royal, she a one time actress. Neither was a success in the role. Maybe both would have been better to have tried harder in those roles.
What if they had never met? Do either of them think this, however briefly? Bet they do.

CurlewKate · 24/01/2025 13:36

@BusyExpert "I initially scoffed at the rumours that her pregnancies were fake, so I looked into the evidence. I am a midwife and although not a betting person I would lay money Markle was not pregnant with A and L." Could you share the evidence, please?

It's just you pop up to say how people make nasty comments on here about Kate but never seen you say the say about Meghan. I mean here is someone being nasty abojt megahns pregnancy..yet you haven't commented to say how nasty it is to do that about her. So I'm just wondering why you feel the need to point it out abojt one wamn but not another?

You say in a later post that you are a midwife yourself. In what way is an IVF pregnancy not a normal pregnancy?

To be fair, surrogacy (as usually practiced!) does also necessarily involve ivf.

Spectre8 · 24/01/2025 13:45

@NormaMajors1992coat

Here is what the VF article wrote: Peele says that the unidentified person allegedly acting for Meghan made it clear that the couple were not getting divorced, but was seeking to know, if such a divorce did happen, “would this publisher theoretically be interested in a book that took place in its aftermath?”

So a person not identified allegedly claims. So it's not a fact, it's not been verified to be true. It's basically a rumour.

And furthermore not even a book ready to flogged, not even they are grtfing divorced. But IF they did would a book be of interest. That's the alleged claim.

It's so tenuous, it's just basically gossip and speculation and based on nothing. It's not even verified!
