Just setting up a thread for the release of the new cooking show, 15th January 2025

Let them eat sponge cake: we watched Meghan Markle’s cooking show trailer so you don’t have to | Well actually | The Guardian

Who is this show for? Perhaps those drawn to trad wife aesthetics – or maybe just Netflix

I mean I don’t have much to add other than:

  • Meghan’s letter to Hilary Clinton and P&G about the sexist washing up advert after 2 of her fellow male pupils exclaimed “Yeah, that's where women belong - in the kitchen'. Oh man this did not sit well with 11-year-old me” letter
  • Her mouthpiece Omid Scobie accused Catherine of being a “Stepford-like royal wife”

It all seems a little hypocritical and inauthentic that the once proud and empowered feminist Meghan has now turned into a Stepford tradwife.

Paradoes · 04/01/2025 00:08

Good point pretty but I’ll definitely enjoy this as I love homemaking and decor and the escapism of it,

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 04/01/2025 00:13

Ive been watching Emma’s Kitchen Longleat’s (the Marchioness of Bath) videos on the recommendation of this board and they are absolutely charming. If she can bring the charm, warmth and elegance of Emma then she might stand a chance of success. I suppose only time will tell.

Atlasvue · 04/01/2025 00:29

I suspect it will be a quiet thread for now, not sure they will release any more trailers until the 15th.

I don’t know if its the song overplaying the trailer or the editing but I keep expecting to hear the famous movie trailer voice artist Don ‘In a world…’LaFontaine at some point.

For those who might want to watch this undoubted drivel in order to have a nose at the grifter’s kitchen sadly this is filmed in another slightly cheaper mansion.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 04/01/2025 02:46

I am just glad Guy the beagle is keeping it real by looking a bit grizzled, snoring in his dog bed and no doubt shedding dog hairs everywhere.

WinterCrow · 04/01/2025 04:14

Well, one minute their Netflix shtick is all 'when the stakes are this high ...' and now it's flowers in ice cubes and painstaking attention to sponge cake.

DiddlyKnot · 04/01/2025 04:20

I hope this goes well for her as she's yet to establish her own identity/ brand. It can't be any worse than slagging off her in-laws for likes and fame, can it?

WinterCrow · 04/01/2025 07:49

That Telegraph article is a corker. It actually says that 'they' - i.e. H&M - troll comments sections. I know it has been alleged and rumoured for years, but here's a broadsheet saying it in black and white.

'They have tried their hands at various pursuits in that time, from taking Silicon Valley roles that are nonsense even by the standards of Silicon Valley roles, to hosting podcasts that are inane even by the standards of podcasts, but the only big hits have come when they’ve done what they undeniably do best: wind up the critics, troll comment sections, draw out hate clicks, and turn up the annoying to 11.' [my emphasis]

Will they sue? The saga continues.

What is the show going to be released on?

What is the show going to be released on?

Apparently it's released on 15th Jan, exclusive to lucky old Netflix. All 8 eps, 33 mins each, all at once. Over four hours of joy in one hit.

Lampzade · 04/01/2025 08:02

Will definitely be a success.
The anti Sussex lot will be watching the show in their droves ensuring that the Sussexes remain relevant

TulipTiptoer · 04/01/2025 09:48

Meghan gets such publicity from those who want her to fail.
I have never seen on Mumsnet a thread started 11 days before the release of a programme!

pilates · 04/01/2025 09:55

It’s rubbernecking at a car crash

Shrinkingrose · 04/01/2025 09:55

I suspect the first episode will have high ish viewing numbers then it will tail off.

WinterCrow · 04/01/2025 09:56

Masterchef
Strictly Come Dancing
IACGMOOH

... to name but three off the top of my head. Doesn't mean they're any good - just that someone started a thread and others joined in. (Actually the Masterchef and SCD ones are often very witty, and worth reading all on their own. I don't follow the other one.)

loropianalover · 04/01/2025 09:58

You have to admire her consistency in re-brand attempts. She’s just not going to give up, is she.

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 04/01/2025 09:58

There are often threads before a show starts - it’s quite common on MN 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shrinkingrose · 04/01/2025 09:59

Suspect it’s all episodes at ince as she stands a better chance of folks watching more than one, waiting weekly and it’s a guaranteed dead duck. Now it’s just a nearly a dead duck;

Thewrongdoor · 04/01/2025 10:05

The writer of the second Standard piece doesn’t understand what “enervating” means.

It's the TV reviewers I feel sorry for.

Although I daresay that a 7.30pm till midnight shift with a bottle of gin and a laptop might be bearable.

Good spot. I'm guessing the writer meant something like 'innervating' or 'energising'.

Slightly different. They are mainstream british public favourites. I didn't know someone starts a thread a week or two before it airs... you learn something every day!

It is the Oprah interview that stands out to me. Nothing is going to get me to forget what was said in that interview. I won’t be watching this programme.
