Slightly different. They are mainstream british public favourites. I didn't know someone starts a thread a week or two before it airs... you learn something every day!

It happens all the time; when a release date is given for a show a thread often appears, and release dates tend to be announced a couple of weeks before a show starts.

Will definitely be a success.
The anti Sussex lot will be watching the show in their droves ensuring that the Sussexes remain relevant

Can bots watch TV?

Meghan gets such publicity from those who want her to fail.
I have never seen on Mumsnet a thread started 11 days before the release of a programme!

New here?

It's the TV reviewers I feel sorry for.

Although I daresay that a 7.30pm till midnight shift with a bottle of gin and a laptop might be bearable.

There must be some sort of drinking game they could do- vodka shot every time she joyfully stares into the middle distance?

wintercrow thank you so much for sharing the readable version of the telegraph article, I have howled laughing. Hilarious.

The comments about the dog thinking they've started a new life had me guffawing 🤪

I say all this as, dare I say it, a Harry and Meghan fan ❤️🤪

That Telegraph article is a corker. It actually says that 'they' - i.e. H&M - troll comments sections. I know it has been alleged and rumoured for years, but here's a broadsheet saying it in black and white.

'They have tried their hands at various pursuits in that time, from taking Silicon Valley roles that are nonsense even by the standards of Silicon Valley roles, to hosting podcasts that are inane even by the standards of podcasts, but the only big hits have come when they’ve done what they undeniably do best: wind up the critics, troll comment sections, draw out hate clicks, and turn up the annoying to 11.' [my emphasis]

Will they sue? The saga continues.

I don't understand. Perhaps I'm stupid.
Does this mean they actually post mean comments about themselves so they have something to complain about?

Go to the Telly addicts page then, where programmes are more usually discussed. It’s very common there!

Go over to Telly Addicts - most popular series have threads started six months or more! Amandaland (Motherland spin off) doesn't even have a release date confirmed yet but the thread has been running over six months and has several pages of comments already.

Amanda is a character with very limited self awareness too...🤔

Did anyone else hear “we have so much money” before realising she was looking at a beehive and therefore probably meant honey?!

I mean, I've just scrolled down the TV board and found 2 threads straightaway posted 10+ days before a programme airs (Wolf Hall and Strike, so not particularly "mainstream") but yeah, no one ever posts threads about TV shows in advance Hmm

I have already said more than once, I didn't realise. I didn't have a clue about this.
I have acknowledged this many times.

I will never ever say it again!

MrsGusset · 04/01/2025 10:40

Not really interested in this type of programme so doubt I'll watch based on what I've seen in the trailer.

I was however amused by the guest who said that being given a slice of sponge cake was “probably one of the most glamorous moments of my life.” Assuming she wasn't taking the piss it did leave me wondering how on earth she'd react to an encounter with Colin the Caterpillar.

itsstillmehere · 04/01/2025 10:43

It doesn't appeal to me as I can't for the life of me imagine anything innovative that M can come up with. I've seen Victoria sponge cake and her scooping ice cream into a bowl and a focaccia so far. 🤷‍♀️ it's hardly exciting is it?
Of course some people will watch it - her fans will delight in their relatable Dutchess Meghan dishing up her very British food , people who don't like her may watch to see her tossing her hair and seal clapping.

Atlasvue · 04/01/2025 10:45

I wonder if there will be multiple outfit changes per episode?

I doubt it. Polo seems to have sunk without trace and never even flickered near the trending or U.K. top ten programmes on Netflix.

Of course it will get views - from her fans (but how many are genuine vs paid for - makes a difference here) and from those who want to poke fun at it, and from those simply curious. But I very much doubt it will be enough to make it a great success. As another poster said, the first episode will probably get decent numbers but I expect it will tail off quickly after that, unless the show is really compelling (evidence doesn't seem to suggest that so far though)

And if Netflix aren't going out of their way to put it front and centre for people to find it, that will also have a significant impact on the viewing volumes.

Atlasvue · 04/01/2025 10:53

I feel she is trying very very hard to create a look. A somewhat dated look, but a hers nonetheless.

However, she never really gets on best dressed lists or achieved a US vogue cover (or any vogue cover), @Meghan is now an influencer, so she would certainly covet such things.

Im not sure her cooking show outfit choices will change things

Ive been watching Emma’s Kitchen Longleat’s (the Marchioness of Bath) videos on the recommendation of this board and they are absolutely charming. If she can bring the charm, warmth and elegance of Emma then she might stand a chance of success. I suppose only time will tell.

The Mail thinks Meg's bringing a lot of Emma's ideas to her Montecito table. Plus ideas from various other you tubers etc. The photos they use do show a similarity to what Emma has been doing.

I can imagine her paying some market research company to give her feedback on her image and being told she's seen as hard and power crazy so deciding to show a soft, homemaker side with this. Plus it all made Martha Stewart a lot of money. Hell, even Pippa made some cash with her dire party book back in the day. And it satisfies the requirements of her Netflix's contract to actually come up with some content.

To me it feels very like a limited series. That it’s being released all at once, in winter.

But also the concept of the show- she can’t bring back very basic cooking with chat's with the same friends. That would get boring fast.

So series 2, would have to be a different concept…..or bring in A list guests.

But as I say. I feel it will be a stand alone series.

She can still use that as a springboard for her lifestyle business though.

If I had Netflix I'd watch the Alice Waters episode because I'm interested in her and her ethos.
If the rest of it is sponge cake (albeit pimped with a lot of frosting and a third layer), "elevating" a plate of hummus and crudités with a splodge of olive oil and making ladybirds out of tomatoes (old news), I suspect Meghan wouldn't teach me much about cooking.
I don't want tips about lifestyle because I've already got one.
I'll certainly be reading about it though; I'm not without curiosity.
