Who is this show for? Perhaps those drawn to trad wife aesthetics – or maybe just Netflix

The Mail thinks Meg's bringing a lot of Emma's ideas to her Montecito table. Plus ideas from various other you tubers etc. The photos they use do show a similarity to what Emma has been doing.

I can imagine her paying some market research company to give her feedback on her image and being told she's seen as hard and power crazy so deciding to show a soft, homemaker side with this. Plus it all made Martha Stewart a lot of money. Hell, even Pippa made some cash with her dire party book back in the day. And it satisfies the requirements of her Netflix's contract to actually come up with some content.

Does anyone else think that those balloons look like an invasion of haemoglobin molecules?😱

Drivel I suspect

I am just glad Guy the beagle is keeping it real by looking a bit grizzled, snoring in his dog bed and no doubt shedding dog hairs everywhere.

She is using her poor old dog as a prop. Taken him to this other kitchen for window dressing to show what a wonderful person she is having her old dog. I bet he would rather be in his own home!

MrsLeonFarrell · 04/01/2025 11:10

The Times had an article on Friday that was fairly positive about it. They contrasted the idea with Polo and suggested this would at least reach a wider audience.

I might watch a little bit, but I don't really watch cooking shows so won't commit to 8 episodes.

I hope, for Meghan's sake, that is not full of vacuous comments like Mindy claiming a sponge is glamour personified,. That was just embarrassing, for Mindy more than Meghan but still.

Atlasvue · 04/01/2025 11:14

Not a show Meghan could pull off but I’d love a return of the instructional cookery show. Not someone trying to offer you a slice of their lifestyle and a friendly face.

Just a no nonsense, exact measurements, exact cooking methods, no wasted seconds.
I love watching the Fanny Craddocks Christmas shows. Comedy gold but I also absorb the recipe instructions and techniques etc.
Lots of cooking shows I come away thinking that was nice, but couldn’t tell you what they made or how they made it if asked. It was just a way to unwind.

Meghan is giving me shades of Hyacinth Bucket in terms of hilarious pretension although of course she really does have room for a pony.

I have to admit that the apparent product placement of her new line of dog biscuits - the fleeting shot of one being innocently snaffled up by Guy the beagle - did leave me wondering.

Meghan gets such publicity from those who want her to fail.
I have never seen on Mumsnet a thread started 11 days before the release of a programme!

people will pretend otherwise. but this thread has just been started as an excuse to rip her apart.
its odd but I doubt if any of the posters labbled super fans will watch it.

devilspawn · 04/01/2025 11:21

I'm looking forward to this, just wish it was more episodes.

Bizarred · 04/01/2025 11:30

I like watching Emma Weymouth's stuff, and there's another woman on Insta called Hill House Vintage who has nice home furnishings, and I Iike Mary Berry. Maybe I'll like this but if it's too fake, as in put together like a stage show or film set - the balloons and the pink curved edge trolley are giving me bad vibes - then I won't.

Neighbours87 · 04/01/2025 11:34

Tbf Meghan had her lifestyle blog the tig and a very popular insta before she met Harry. I remember her doing a cooking segment on US breakfast tv. Good on her I’ll be watching. I

Yes we all know this but there was nothing original in it. The extent of her cooking was fish tacos. She leeched onto other people's set ups and food for her blog.

Choux · 04/01/2025 12:13

Didn't she barbecue a turkey in the snow as well or am I misremembering?

ZenNudist · 04/01/2025 12:18

I prefer the power play stuff. It may be hubris but it's certainly amusing reading that they are accepting awards that they paid for for services to humanity.

I liked seeing them launch their own version of the royal tour. Much better when you don't have to adhere to protocol etc.

I never listened but at least the trying to do worthy podcasting about archetypes played a brand of a serious person with serious concerns trying to help solve serious issues (nods seriously).

A cooking show is so nothing-y. Every stick thin woman and her dog has a lifestyle brand.

I think the idea of "her and Harry buy a country pile and attempt to renovate it themselves, hilarity ensues". They should pitch that next.

The problem is with all their media projects that they don't want to put their backs into it. They want to pay other people to come up with ideas and scripts they front and then waft in fragrantly to do the bit in front of the camera.

To be good takes graft and they just want to grift.

Jolietta · 04/01/2025 12:20

She could at least tie the wig/hair pieces back instead of letting whoever's hair it originally belonged to dangle over all the food.

That Telegraph article is a corker. It actually says that 'they' - i.e. H&M - troll comments sections. I know it has been alleged and rumoured for years, but here's a broadsheet saying it in black and white.

'They have tried their hands at various pursuits in that time, from taking Silicon Valley roles that are nonsense even by the standards of Silicon Valley roles, to hosting podcasts that are inane even by the standards of podcasts, but the only big hits have come when they’ve done what they undeniably do best: wind up the critics, troll comment sections, draw out hate clicks, and turn up the annoying to 11.' [my emphasis]

Will they sue? The saga continues.

I think maybe it was intended to say 'trawl'?

Gowlett · 04/01/2025 12:28

I wonder what she’ll think of the Emma Weymouth comparison, as Emma is as mentioned by the press a lot in the early Harry & Meghan days. Especially when they got engaged.

But since Spare & the royal racism row… It’s hard to k ow where Meghan is going with all of this. Many celebs have homeware / wellness products. How much money will she actually make?

Gowlett · 04/01/2025 12:31

Also, I just don’t like her voice. Everything she does / says is so considered. It just doesn’t come across as authentic. It’s all fake laughing, “oh, you!” I wonder if Harry or the kids will feature…

BemusedAmerican · 04/01/2025 12:32

I bought the book by Paula Sutton, the woman behind Hill House Vintage. I love her use of color. She also has a great sense of humor

@itsstillmehere I choked when I saw the mint on the cake. You should watch the video by the Sidley Twins about the trailer. You will never feel the same about mint. 😁

Another review, The Independent. Compares the show to a horror movie:

https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/meghan-markle-netflix-cooking-show-trad-wife-b2673396.html

“It was only a matter of time until the modern-day trad wife phenomenon became the premise for a horror film. Think about it: all the key elements are there.
The portentous setting of suburbia: quiet streets, palatial mansions, moneyed families with perfect hair. A life defined by domestic servitude: cooking, cleaning, doing everything for everyone except yourself. And a modus operandi steeped in archaic values that oppresses women, entrapping them within the home and stripping them of their autonomy, identity, and financial independence, one homemade marshmallow at a time.
Thank goodness, then, that someone has finally taken all this and put it in its rightful home of horror. I just didn’t expect that someone to be Meghan Markle. And yet, when I watched the trailer for the Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, all I could think was: I didn’t realise there was a sequel to Get Out.

It’s not so much the content itself that rattles me – I love a good cooking show as much as anyone. It’s the tone, which is so jarringly earnest it feels sinister.

Look, I get it. And maybe it is time for Meghan to dip her toe back into this space now that a few years have passed since Megxit. But did it really have to be so mawkish? So traditional? So utterly cringe that I almost can’t bear to watch?”

Oh, Meghan – we expected more from you than ‘trad wife’

The Duchess of Sussex understandably has a desire to return to her lifestyle-blogging roots, writes Olivia Petter. But going by the trailer, this new Netflix show is mawkish and, worse still, disappointing

Well, it went up yesterday - '03 January 2025 4:38pm GMT' precisely - and hasn't been amended as of now, so I think in this case that no-one at the Telegraph has felt the need to make a correction and 'troll' means 'troll'.

Will definitely be a success.
The anti Sussex lot will be watching the show in their droves ensuring that the Sussexes remain relevant

Didn't work for Harry's Polo though. Or Heart of Invictus. Or Live to Lead. Or several of the Spotify episodes.

I hope it is a success and they can move on from the victim role they've consistently occupied since 2019.

Atlasvue · 04/01/2025 13:36

Oh my goodness, I’d never actually noticed!

She’s serving shop bought ice cream with…..jam
You see the jam jar open on the counter. Along with the ice cream. That’s how shes elevating the everyday?

Jelly and ice cream requires more culinary skills than that!!!
