Do you think as Camilla as the queen ?

Hear me out , I have no problem with Camilla and never thought I would never see her as ( way back when ) as Charles wife when they married , my opinion, was they married and can rightly call herself as Duchess.
However , what I don't understand that when Queen Elizabeth was alive , her husband , Prince Phillip was always known as just that and never seen / addressed as King . Why is Camilla our queen when Phillip was never our king ? I'm confused .

No.

Imo, she's the King's wife/consort.

She's not a Queen.

Is Catherine a Princess? Or just a Prince's wife?

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:29

By contrast I still sometimes think of Daisy (Margrethe of Denmark) as Queen even though she's abdicated and Mary is Queen now. When I read the Danish news and they talk about The Queen I do sometimes still automatically think it's about Queen Margrethe. But she had been queen all my life so it's the same as it was for many people here with Elizabeth II.

Menopausalsourpuss · 09/11/2024 18:31

I think originally she was going to have another title as was very unpopular in the 1990s/2000s an wouldn't have been accepted as Queen but Charles kept pressing for her to have that title. She will never be Queen to me but then since the old Queen died I think we should ditch the lot of em!

I think she's the Princess of Wales because she's married to the Prince of Wales.
That isn't the same as Princess Anne or Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, who are princesses because they are descended straight from QE2.
Correct me if I'm wrong, oh knowledgeable ones.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:33

@upinaballoon you are correct. And that's why she's not called Princess Catherine. Because she isn't a princess by birth.

You are correct.
I was asking oldtinhat if she applied her logic to other wives of the royal family or just Camilla.

crumpet · 09/11/2024 18:36

She is the Queen. That is her rank.

Quite.
Although I think she could be called Princess William (cf Princess Michael).
Might as well stick with the PoWess title though.
Queen will be next and worth waiting for.

upinaballoon · 09/11/2024 18:37

If I'd been alive in 1945 my queen would have been Queen Elizabeth. If I'd been alive in 1934 my queen would have been Queen Mary.

They were queens consort as opposed to regnant, but queens, nonetheless.

Yes, other than Princess of Wales (and other similar titles) her title would be Princess William.

Tiswa · 09/11/2024 18:39

She is Catherine Princess of Wales

to be Prince or Princess X you have to be born to it. Prince Philip and Prince Albert were both born Princes it wasn’t a title bestow on them by marriage

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 18:40

@upinaballoon She's Princess Katherine of Wales because she's married to Prince William of Wales.
Camilla is Queen Camilla because she's married to King Charles.
They both have their titles through marriage.
Queen Camilla is her title.
Edit : Actually yes - I think technically She's Princess William of Wales (Like Princess Michael of Kent wasn't named Michael)

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:41

She is also Princess William. Same as Princess Michael of Kent. That is the convention bestown when you are married to a Prince.

My mother always used to talk about "old Queen Mary".

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 18:44

Apologies to Princess Michael of Kent !
I said "was" but she's still with us.
Sorry to you Marie-Christine (her actual name) if you're reading 😂

urbanbuddha · 09/11/2024 18:44

I automatically picture Queen Elizabeth because really she was the Queen.

Nellieinthebarn · 09/11/2024 18:44

When I hear 'The Queen' my mind always goes straight to the late Queen Elizabeth. I've got nothing against Queen Camilla, I don't have any feelings about her one way or the other.

It's the toff's version of addressing wives as Mrs John Smith. All stems from the notion that a wife is an extension of or belonging to the husband

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:48

Yes it's a long-standing convention. I always think it's funny when people get all het up about it. It's the Monarchy after all.

That would be her title only if she divorced.

Right now she is HRH The Princess of Wales.

When Charles was PoW, his first wife was HRH The Princess of Wales, until her divorce when she became Diana, Princess of Wales.

The "of Wales" bit is now used for the Wales DC, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Not their father anymore, since he got his "upgrade"

Ellie56 · 09/11/2024 18:55

Nope I don't think of her as queen. When people talk about the Queen I automatically think of Queen Elizabeth II.

Alltheyearround · 09/11/2024 18:57

Hellisemptyallthdevilsarehere · 09/11/2024 17:43

I don't instinctively. I saw a headline that said queen the other day and thought of our late Queen Elizabeth II and assumed it was an old article resurfacing before I actually thought of Camilla.

^ This. To me she was the last Queen. I liked her style (mainly). I won't ever think of Camilla as the Queen. I feel its like Charles insisting we all bow to her. Not on my Nellie.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:58

But...I mean that's so illogical.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:59

Elizabeth wasn't even supposed to be Queen.

FilthyRich · 09/11/2024 19:00

Catherine, Princess of Wales. Before KCIII became the monarch, she was Princess William, The Duchess of Cambridge.
