Do you think as Camilla as the queen ?

Hear me out , I have no problem with Camilla and never thought I would never see her as ( way back when ) as Charles wife when they married , my opinion, was they married and can rightly call herself as Duchess.
However , what I don't understand that when Queen Elizabeth was alive , her husband , Prince Phillip was always known as just that and never seen / addressed as King . Why is Camilla our queen when Phillip was never our king ? I'm confused .

No, in my mind she's queen because she's married to the king, but she's not THE queen.

You also have misunderstood the word consort! Camilla could never have been any other sort of queen .
Every queen consort including Camilla has been referred to as The Queen.

Right you may be, but, this question is about whether people consider Camilla as "The Queen".

@Notmoog I'm a Veteran.

I was responding to a post that was factually incorrect.

shellyleppard · 09/11/2024 18:15

The only Queen is Elizabeth the 2nd. Camilla will never be Queen in my eyes

BilboBlaggin · 09/11/2024 18:16

Like some previous posters, when I hear mention of the queen I automatically think of Queen Elizabeth and then get confused as she has died. Then it occurs to me they're referring to Camilla. I think she's doing a good job, but I still don't think of her as Queen.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 18:16

It makes no difference whether they consider her the queen or not, tbf. She is the Queen.

Tiswa · 09/11/2024 18:16

yes I think that is also a distinction I think of her as Queen Camilla because she is his consort I don’t however consider her to be THE Queen, like I do that Charles is THE King. The the is reserved for the Regnal Monarch and not the consort.

so at George VI’s funeral there would have been 2 Queens and the Queen and even though she was the youngest she would have been at the top

Supersimkin7 · 09/11/2024 18:18

No. She doesn’t do much anyway - just bailed on Remembrance Ceremony.

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 18:18

@shellyleppard not even Vicky and Liz I ?
Were they not Queens? 😂

Redcrayons · 09/11/2024 18:19

I read an article which mentioned the ‘queen’s first husband’ and I had to click through to work out who they were talking about.

My brain is still on the default settings.

Same for Duke of Edinburgh and Prince and Princess of Wales.

as to whether I accept her as The Queen, honestly couldn’t care less.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/11/2024 18:20

She IS the Queen, it doesn't really matter how I, or anyone else, think of her.

Hellisemptyallthdevilsarehere · 09/11/2024 17:43

I don't instinctively. I saw a headline that said queen the other day and thought of our late Queen Elizabeth II and assumed it was an old article resurfacing before I actually thought of Camilla.

Yes, I thought exactly the same? I'm not a royalist at all but she will never be queen to me.

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 09/11/2024 18:21

The media tried to smooth the way by calling her Queen Camilla for a long time, but "The Queen" is still too jarring for me.

But I'm a right royal hypocrite in as much as it really gets my back up the thought of Camilla somehow reigning over us, but I adored The Queen, and absolutely accepted her position as Head of state without question or comment!

Camilla should never have been made Queen after our Monarch Queen Elizabeth II -HM recommended The Role Of Cosort and I think that was about right

What?

shellyleppard · 09/11/2024 18:23

@Needmorelego sorry should have put in my lifetime....🤣🤣 Queen Elizabeth the 2nd was the always there . From the silver jubilee party in the 70's to the golden jubilee 💗

RaininSummer · 09/11/2024 18:24

It's mad and old fashioned that King outranks Queen. Utter sexist tripe.

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/11/2024 18:24

No.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/11/2024 18:25

Yes because she is.

upinaballoon · 09/11/2024 18:25

Do I think of Camilla as the Queen? A lot of the time, yes, as I think of Charles being the King, but now and again I lapse when I hear words like 'Prince of Wales'. I spent over 70 years thinking of the monarch being QE2, and I've had about 2 years by comparison to think of Camilla being Queen, so I'm making the transition reasonably well.

herecomesautumn · 09/11/2024 18:25

My brain still goes to Elizabeth when I hear reference to the Queen but I do know that Camilla is now Queen Camilla

amyshep · 09/11/2024 18:26

Nope 👎🏼
Home wrecker. Can't believe the old fart had the nerve to marry her in the end.

OldTinHat · 09/11/2024 18:26

No.

Imo, she's the King's wife/consort.

She's not a Queen.

Uricon2 · 09/11/2024 18:27

We had a Queen Regnant for 70 years who was always "The Queen" so the idea of "the Queen" being Camilla takes a bit of getting used to. She is though, like as others have said like Queen Mary/Queen Alexandra/Queen Eleanor/Queen Phillipa. Same title, same role.

I wonder if after Elizabeth I and Victoria people had the same periods of adjustment, probably I think.

CurlewKate · 09/11/2024 18:27

I think that she has behaved appallingly in her life, but frankly she is a better queen than the sainted ER2. I like her focus on VAWG. I love that she has the Queen's Companions rather than Ladies in Waiting. And her clothes are fabulous.
