Do you think as Camilla as the queen ?

Hear me out , I have no problem with Camilla and never thought I would never see her as ( way back when ) as Charles wife when they married , my opinion, was they married and can rightly call herself as Duchess.
However , what I don't understand that when Queen Elizabeth was alive , her husband , Prince Phillip was always known as just that and never seen / addressed as King . Why is Camilla our queen when Phillip was never our king ? I'm confused .

She (Catherine) will still be The Queen though. And will be referred to as such. As every queen consort before her has been.

Edited to add: in response to LuluBlakey1

No.

In the same way I didn’t think of Prince Philip of being King Philip. He wasn’t.

I’ve mostly got used to Charles as king but I still struggle with the National Anthem and sing “God save the Quing” quite frequently 😆

Yeah, I remember in September 2022 saying that I think our HoS is currently a Quing. Very Star Trek.

No she will never be my queen

She isn't anyone's Queen. No one is her subject. She holds an honorary title as wife of the King.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 19:49

This is really so basic. Every time it comes up I'm surprised that so many people don't seem to get it.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 19:50

I think a lot of it must be to do with the fact that the only queen many people have ever known was The Queen in her own right.

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 19:54

@herecomesautumn so what are William and Catherine's full titles?

FedupMumof10YearOld · 09/11/2024 19:54

Hellisemptyallthdevilsarehere · 09/11/2024 17:43

I don't instinctively. I saw a headline that said queen the other day and thought of our late Queen Elizabeth II and assumed it was an old article resurfacing before I actually thought of Camilla.

Me too.

I don't think of her as Queen. I don't think I ever will.

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 19:56

I always forget - is "Kate" Katherine with a Kicking Kuh or Catherine with Curly Cuh?

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 19:56

With a C.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 19:58

I think it's likely that by the time some people have got used to King Charles and Queen Camilla, it will be time to get used to King William and Queen Catherine.

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 19:54

@herecomesautumn so what are William and Catherine's full titles?

I could be wrong and I know I’m not the poster you tagged but I think the titles are: Prince and Princess of Wales then Duke and Duchess of Cornwall/Cambridge and then their Scottish titles when they visit Scotland and their Northern Irish titles when they visit Northern Ireland

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 20:00

@AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras of course.
The correct way to spell Catherine 😂
(I have a relative Catherine and a close friend also called Catherine )

Needmorelego · 09/11/2024 19:54

@herecomesautumn so what are William and Catherine's full titles?

They have many titles but the main one is the Prince and Princess of Wales

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/11/2024 20:03

LaMarschallin · 09/11/2024 17:47

She is the Queen Consort. The "consort" of the King.
The late Queen was Queen Regnant - she reigned.
The Queen Mother was a Queen Consort.
Prince Albert was a Prince Consort because Victoria was Queen Regnant.
I'm surprised people still don't understand this.

I know! It’s just a job title, don’t know why it’s so hard to grasp.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 09/11/2024 20:12

I don't even think of the king as the king. We had the queen for longer than most people on earth had been alive for by the time she died. The idea that there could be another monarch, or change of song lyrics, will take a lot of getting used to.

Plus I a pro republic, so would happy retire the lot of them.

LaMarschallin · 09/11/2024 20:22

I'm impressed by our vicar: not once has he slipped up in prayers with "Elizabeth our queen" rather than "Charles our king".
Would be easy to do after 40 odd years of saying it.

WearyAuldWumman · 09/11/2024 20:23

No, I don't.

tarheelbaby · 09/11/2024 20:24

So when William (deo volente) accedes, what title will you give his wife? Can she be the queen for you? I think I'll be ready for that, myself. For a long time, Diana was the only Princess of Wales I had ever known but I've found it v easy to slot Kate into that role.

Camilla has been married to Charles for a surprisingly long time now. She's a good person and has made an effort to step into her new role.

Camilla is no slouch but HM is a hard act to follow. I agree with others that when I read 'The Queen will/will not ... ' I do initially think of her late majesty, the King's mother. And I do think of the king as 'Prince Charles' but it's a little easier, since most of us have never had a king, to remember that he's the king.

WearyAuldWumman · 09/11/2024 20:25

FedupMumof10YearOld · 09/11/2024 19:54

Me too.

I don't think of her as Queen. I don't think I ever will.

I still think of her as the Royal Bidie-In. (Only folk of a certain generation who live in certain parts of Scotland will get that, I imagine.)

CollisionCourse · 09/11/2024 20:31

No, when I hear about "The Queen" I instinctively think of "THE Queen", the late Queen Elizabeth II.

I know logically that Camilla can be and is referred to as The Queen, but it still sounds like it's a technicality to my ears still. Among the rest of the new titles some take more thought to get right than others, but they don't jar like "The Queen" does. Strange isn't it.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 09/11/2024 20:32

Great name @BigWillyLittleTodger! 👑

@SprigatitoYouAndIKnow that's at least a logical position to hold! I don't understand those who are all about the late Queen and the institution but somehow have a big problem with things following the centuries-established conventions of the Monarchy! KC and QC are King and Queen as they have both been since the very moment the late Queen died.

WearyAuldWumman · 09/11/2024 20:32

herecomesautumn · 09/11/2024 18:22

What?

When Camilla Parker-Bowles married Prince Charles, we were told that she wouldn't take the title of Queen - she'd be Princess Consort.

Before her death, the Queen issued a statement saying that it was her earnest wish that Camilla be Queen Consort. After she died, the King's office issued a press release saying that Camilla was to be known as Queen.

There's been a long-term campaign working up to this.

Lancrelady80 · 09/11/2024 20:35

She's not The Queen to me. That will always be Elizabeth II, queen in her own right. But I can run with "the queen" (lower case - somehow that seems to make a difference) or Queen Camilla. I'm sure it'll be the same with William and Catherine.

Like a pp said, I think it's because for all bar the last two years, Elizabeth II was the only monarch I'd known. She was the one and only - so definitely The with a capital T. I also find it weird seeing and hearing about her being referred to as Elizabeth II (yes, I know I did that myself) rather than as The Queen. It's almost almost like it was her name I suppose, rather than just a title.

It's a funny thing, but there you go. 🤷‍♀️

Joystir59 · 09/11/2024 20:51

I really can't take him seriously as a King and no way is she Queen Camilla. Ridiculous idea! To be honest in my heart the monarchy ended when The Queen died.
