The Guardian: Prince Harry at 40

TallerSally · 14/09/2024 10:32

Somewhat more even-keeled coverage of Prince Harry at 40 from Caroline Davies at The Guardian.

Arguably understated quite a few of Harry's recent achievements, eg Spare being the 2023 Nr 1 UK bestseller, or the phenomenal growth of Harry's Invictus Games which will now have 25 countries participating in Whistler/Vancouver February 2025. Little or no mention of the numerous awards Harry has won, eg most recently his ESPY Pat Tilman Award for Service and being named a Living Legend of Aviation, etc.

Anyway, nice to see an attempt at painting a more balanced, perhaps less hysterically rabidly negative picture...

Enjoy!

Prince Harry at 40: the difference a decade has made to the duke’s life

Living among film stars and estranged from his father and brother, Harry’s milestone birthday may bring moment of reflection

Yes like his suggestion to interview Putin about his childhood trauma.

The delusion ..... no wonder he was called a 'f**king grifter'

That suggestion would be hilarious if it wasn't so grotesque. It was after Putin's invasion of Ukraine, too.

You could not make it up.

It's interesting that they said he was full of ideas but was never able to put them together and this is what his staff at the Palace used to do. Sounds familiar except he doesn't have the Palace stuff now.

More and more we are seeing just how much the maligned palace staff protected and supported Harry .
Wonder if it has dawned on him yet ??

CoffeeCantata · 20/09/2024 15:23

Quite, forevernumb!

Do you know - I would be world-famous, mega-rich and loaded with honours if you only needed an idea. I've got SO many....

But, as Harry is discovering, that's the easy bit - half-way through your bath, you sit up and - ping! A fabulous idea. It's making it happen that 99.9% of us either can't or won't be bothered to do. Silly Harry.

Do you remember this pompous bit of jackassery from the SussArch clown show?

'Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same.'

Like the 'global community and its leaders' wouldn't have thought of it otherwise ..?

But meanwhile Harry's got plans to have a sit-down chat with Putin about their childhoods?? I mean, that's some serious mushroom tea on his hob.

Hoopper · 20/09/2024 18:22

pompous jackassery

Crying with laughter. Stealing that forever😂

Uricon2 · 20/09/2024 18:47

While I would give serious cash money to see Harry teaching Putin his tapping thing to deal with trauma, it really is a sign of overwhelming entitlement and the lack of reality that goes with it for him to think he could achieve anything useful with such an "interview". He has no discernment about his own abilities and usefulness any more. Did he ever have that? Don't know, probably down to the hated grey suits if he did.

Prince Harry's being pretty visibly busy recently, with a whole slew of public appearances.

Here's the latest folks are reporting on - yesterday Harry attended the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s event on "Violence against children and its impact on mental health" in New York. Guests attending alongside Harry included the Queen... of Belgium, and actors Will Poulter and Forest Whitaker.

Great to see how widely shared and well-supported Harry/Archewell Foundation's commitment to children's mental health and wellbeing is.

And of course last week Harry was handing out awards at Kevin Costner's fundraiser concert for Santa Barbara County First Responders (so that's firefighters, local police etc). This is the well-attended event Harry and Meghan also were invited to last year, and this year's edition had the usual bunch of local celebs - well-known names like Cameron Diaz, Zoe Saldana, and Rob Lowe.

Nice to see Harry and these folks coming out for their communities and the issues they're passionate about!

And for a preview of Harry's busy upcoming week in New York:

"Prince Harry Has Arrived in New York City
He is continuing his philanthropic and environmental work during the UN General Assembly’s High-level Week and Climate Week

On Sunday, the Duke of Sussex attended an important dinner organized by the World Health Organization that focused on “violence against children and its impact on mental health.” Others in attendance included Queen Mathilde of Belgium, actor Forest Whitaker, and several United Nations heads and officials from various countries—all whom are in New York City for the UN General Assembly, whose latest session ramps up this week. The guests were joined by several survivors of child abuse, who discussed the issue.

Harper’s Bazaar previously reported that Harry would be in New York during the UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week. A spokesperson for the prince said at the time that Harry’s visit would serve to advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives—like combating the climate crisis—including those in line with his work for the Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit he launched with wife Duchess Meghan in 2020. During the royal’s time in the city, he will participate in engagements for African Parks, the HALO Trust, the Diana Award, and Travalyst, the spokesperson said."

Yes but what does this actually achieve except PR for him? It all appears very self serving.

Mylovelygreendress · 23/09/2024 17:13

If he is participating in a discussion about African Parks , I wonder if he will tackle the abuse issue ?
Also , for a supposed supporter of environmental work , Harry doesn’t even get a mention in the Independent 100 event . The King , POW , David Attenborough, Jane Goodall , Zac Goldsmith etc etc all in the top 100 . Harry ? Nowhere.

Thanks for explaining what 'first responders' are - I was drawing a blank...

spanieleyes · 23/09/2024 19:15

He seems to be turning into rent-a-royal, have crown, will travel😇

Bontonbonbon · 23/09/2024 19:24

I wonder if he is getting paid to attend some of these events or if it is all a quid pro quo. The fact Meghan isn’t there is very interesting. He hasn’t done anything this high profile without her since they got engaged.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/09/2024 21:00

Or even if he's paying to attend them?

Who knows ...?

… and seeing how much folks enjoy hearing about (and it would seem, spending every waking hour posting about) Prince Harry, here’s some more!

… with a lot more to come, given Harry’s schedule this week.

Enjoy! 😂🤩

“The Duke of Sussex spoke of becoming a father for the second time as he addressed The HALO Trust, a charity his mother also famously supported.
Prince Harry is making his mark in New York City for a charity closely associated with Princess Diana's legacy.
On Sept. 23, the Duke of Sussex, 40, stepped out for an event supporting The HALO Trust. The humanitarian group, which is at work in over 30 countries and territories around the world to clear landmines and debris of war, gained international acclaim when the late Princess of Wales walked through an active landmine in Huambo, Angola, in 1997 to call for an international ban.«

Nobody who really cares about other people's children would associate with Corey Gamble.

Bontonbonbon · 23/09/2024 21:50

This is weird. And not really healthy. I’m sure the OP has a point somewhere but it is lost in the mass of information.

Note to OP: no one is claiming that PH doesn’t have a prominent role and is famous. I would argue that it was an accident of birth and that shouldn’t inure him from totally valid critiques on his behaviour and attitudes. He comes across a a spoiled, self centre man who cannot take responsibility for his actions. The PR puff pieces are wearisome at this point.

Hoopper · 23/09/2024 21:51

Looks like the dead cat PR strategy is in full swing using PH to divert from the MM bullying expose.

He does look a bit red-eyed and haunted in a few shots - but its likley been an emotionally devasting week for him.
