Harry in UK for funeral

DM is reporting Harry came to the UK for the funeral of his uncle Robert Fellowes. The husband of Diana's sister Lady Jane. Apparently they kept their distance from each other and didn't speak. Looks like William has the Windsor habit of bearing grudges. Don't blame him in this case.

I see on X comments made by Meghan about not knowing her friends were speaking to People magazine are being resurrected, the friends who first disclosed the existence of the letter to her father. The very same court case where she lied about collaborating with Scobie.

Leaks and lies seem to be their modus operandi.

I wish those 5 friends' identities had not been protected by the judge in the MM v DM (copyright/privacy) case. There was no reason for keeping them a secret. Given that MM not only blatantly lied, but then also leaked one of the judge's orders to Omid Scobie - and so was told off for a second time - she and her friends got off lightly in that case. The letter was written to be leaked, as per her own words to Jason Knauf. The court covering up for the leakers seems very odd.

Presumably because when it came down to it the case was about copyright, not whether it was leaked

Pineapplesandthegovernmentandpunkrock · 12/09/2024 16:38

Actually, it was about both copyright and privacy and part of the evidence was whether MM had divested herself of her own rights to privacy by getting her friends to leak the contents of the letter (the DM printed extracts Thomas Markle provided to them in his apparent attempt to reply to the info the friends had leaked) and by actually writing something in anticipation of its publication. The settlement for the privacy aspect of the case was nominal - £1 - indicating that it was a skin of your teeth victory. It was awarded on a summary judgment - we'll never know whether it would have stood up to a full trial. From the Guardian:

Mark Stephens, a media lawyer, said the nominal settlement for the privacy aspect suggested a weakness in that aspect of Meghan’s case: “Normally for that kind of invasion of privacy you would expect £75,000 to £125,000. It does show that the curation of her reputation was an area where she had effectively invaded her own privacy.”

As part of the court settlement, the Mail outlets have also been ordered to avoid disclosing the names of five of Meghan’s friends who anonymously spoke to People magazine for a 2018 article about the royal. The newspaper had previously sought to name the individuals in legal proceedings.

Meghan Markle's Friend Breaks Silence to Say Newspaper Breaching 'My Trust'

One of Meghan Markle's closest friends accuses a newspaper of a "breach of my trust" over attempts to publish the names of the Duchess' inner circle.

they were quite happy to show Archie in the bath on Netflix, and issue pictures for Lilibet's 1st birthday because the other royals kids were getting attention at the Jubilee celebration.

It was reported they wanted to take a Netflix crew to film Lilibet meeting the Queen when they were here at the time of the Jubilee. Of course they were told No, as anyone could have predicted. I don't think any photos of that occasion have ever surfaced, so if any photos were taken, the Palace must have copyright sewn up tight.

There have been stories in the press this last week that the Queen had a birthday cake made for Little Betty, but the Sussexes didn't turn up to celebrate her birthday with her great grandmother. Could that be because they were told no Netflix? Misan Harriman was apparently (subject to some debate over alleged photoshopping) at Frogmore Cottage with them over the Jubilee weekend taking photos of them, which were published. I wonder if that's why he hates the RF so much - they wouldn't let him into the palace to take his snaps?

DelectableMe · 13/09/2024 07:25

I strongly suspect that the Sussexes were not allowed to use the occasion for publicity, as per, so got pissed off and didn't bother to turn up. How they spread joy!

That is an interesting thought, I think you may be right about them having Misan on hand in the expectation he would be taking some 'family' photos with the Queen.

Well official 1st birthday pictures of Lilibet were released anyway, that Jubilee weekend.

That’s so funny 😆. Bet there were a few choice words flying around after that 😂 (psst Serenster, you might need to edit your first post, Harry is 40 not 50 😂)

It'll be the same in 10 years' time, don't worry lol!
