Harry in UK for funeral

Viviennemary · 30/08/2024 10:18

DM is reporting Harry came to the UK for the funeral of his uncle Robert Fellowes. The husband of Diana's sister Lady Jane. Apparently they kept their distance from each other and didn't speak. Looks like William has the Windsor habit of bearing grudges. Don't blame him in this case.

Of course, a real cynic might say that a story about Harry being able to suddenly pick and fly privately into UK without the new for special security and without taking his family, is a very helpful bit of weapon to have in one's armoury should it ever come to a future custody battle

Why would it come to a "future custody battle?"
What are you basing that on? (Genuine question)

I hope they aren’t splitting up. Two parents on different continents can’t be good for the dcs.

pilates · 07/09/2024 07:35

@BeachParty Oh gawd that old chestnut you don’t know them blah blah. You believe everything you read in the newspapers. Nope, it has been laid out for us to watch and listen to. I do not know one person in real life who admires or respects H &M.

"at times leading separate lives"
Oh dear.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/09/2024 07:40

I’d say I’m wrong then. It looks like they are splitting up from that article. Or Harry is putting feelers out to try half in half out.

Indeed. Or he's discovered he's still Spare, so it wasn't the rotten RF. Or he wants more dosh.

I think that's a bit of a reach at the moment. If you look at what the article actually says, it seems to be that Harry will travel to UK without her (and perhaps to other things that are his work rather than hers). So those "at times" is definitely a weasel.

We all know from KateGate that rumours gain a life of their own on the internet, and that more MSM outlets will repeat them because of SEO, not because they "know something"

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/09/2024 07:49

Something is afoot though. Meghan is supportive - oh yes she is… make of it what you will. I could almost feel sorry for Harry if he hadn’t behaved so despicably.

Edit: hadn’t seen your post @EdithWeston thst could also be true. He could just be missing home. Homesickness is a definitely a thing. Maybe Charles and Kate being unwell this year has made him re evaluate.

pilates · 07/09/2024 07:51

The life he is so called missing is one he will
never have again because of his awful behaviour. I hope they don’t split as that is always sad when children are involved.

Yes, that's true. It is a reach. However, if he's trying to spend time in the UK again, it will be without her and the children. I know that some couples can make it work, but it's a challenge.
Anyway, they've got plenty of money and privilege, so travelling is easy.

Yes, that's a good point. Missing his old friends and support network.

Amused by this article in the Spectator. Actually McKellan's comments about the Queen are pretty mild, he's just huffy because she didn't flatter him. He was happy enough to accept his CBE and other honours.

Anyway it's the final paragraph that amused. Harry compared to MacBeth? (By the author, not McKellan himself) Maybe Meghan should resume her acting career. Lady MacBeth next stop!

"If anything, the more intriguing nugget from the interview is the actor’s measured support for the Duke of Sussex. Harry may, indeed, have had his pick of all the women in the world – pretty or otherwise. Few would dispute the fact that Meghan Markle has proved to be an unusually publicity-hungry spouse for him, creating a unique dynamic within both the marriage and the public perception of the pair. Sir Ian has played his fair share of flawed and damaged Shakespearean kings, from Richard III to King Lear, but it might be his seminal 1979 staging of Macbeth that offers the closest comparison with the present day. A limited but ambitious man who betrays everyone around him, urged on by his power-hungry and ruthless wife? The comparisons, I fear, write themselves, and not in a flattering way."

Well, yes.

Even if he does start spending more time in the UK, things will never be the same.

His relationships with family, friends, Palace Officials and Household Staff - all irrevocably altered. Because of his behaviour.

Even if he did come back and tried to rebuild relationships - the Press and the Public will forever be analysing every single interaction for signs of: anger, joy, annoyance, jealousy, grief etc.

It would be a struggle for any relationship to recover and gain any stability under those circumstances.

They could have had so much, they had so much goodwill and they threw it all away. For what?

Him to play polo and go on pointless psuedo-Royal tours and her to not sell jam on IG.

I mean, it's laughable.

I don't hate them, I don't particularly dislike them - I just have no respect for them.

Being a Royal is not a life I would want, but feck me, even I could have made a better job at it. Free gratis accomodation for life, very generous allowance, access to literal Crown jewels, being given charitable roles (that Meghan would never have been even able to dream of before - if that's actually what she wanted), gold standard level security for all your public appearances.

And if they didn't want to be full-time working Royals I have absolutely no doubt Charles would have kept them quite comfortably in luxury with them only putting in the odd public appearance. I could put up with the curtseying in exchange for that.

When you look at what they had and what they have now (and have to do). I hope it was worth it. They chose to leave and blow up everything. A scorched earth approach is never sensible.

Edit for clarification

pilates · 07/09/2024 10:47

Yep I think it’s a classic case of the grass isn’t always greener and he didn’t appreciate what he had until it wasn’t there.

JADS · 07/09/2024 11:00

Actually I think it makes sense they work separately. Normal people have jobs away from their spouses. Some people live away from their family during the week - it's part of normal life.

They don't do anything particularly sensible most of the time, but more separate work seems appropriate. I did laugh reading about Harry saying the UK is "dangerous" and that Meghan has a busy work schedule - delusional!

I saw this posted in a few places yesterday, not sure if anyone on here has shared it. Seems to be laying the groundwork for something…

That's one of the most blatant puff pieces thats been published in a while. Harold's clearly getting desperate but lines like:

But both her and Harry need to trust the royals again and it will take time

show he's still playing that well-worn victim card

This bit made me laugh:

but this is Harry’s olive branch

Those olive trees must shake to their roots by now whenever he appears 😂

the Sussexes are also trying to juggle their various businesses and charity ventures.

Maybe they could consider double their working week to a couple of hours?

JADS · 07/09/2024 11:04

One of the 'excuses' made for the H&M media grab was that Sarah Ferguson had 'done it previously'. I don't remember any of her career in the USA, but I know she was ridiculed.

SF has come back and lives quietly with Andrew. I do think Harry to come back, but if I was William, I would be keeping him at arm's length.

So true. You just need to look at who's publishing these pieces to know it's PR puff - People, OK. It will be Take a Break soon.

Snort at doubling their hours!

DelectableMe · 07/09/2024 11:18

"doubling their working week to a couple of hours" 😂

DelectableMe · 07/09/2024 11:19

They've certainly leaked a lot of stories and pictures over the past few weeks.

"Her and Harry"?? Seems they can't even employ someone who writes decent English, never mind sorting out a trademark application.

Or even someone who knows how old the children are. Aren't they five and three, not four and two?

Pineapplesandthegovernmentandpunkrock · 07/09/2024 12:50

The real test for this "going their own way" malarky is if Meghan leaves Invictus alone and just allows Harry to be front and centre. Aspen is in February 2025, I think. I wonder if they have replaced the CEO yet? MM might take the view that she does not want to be part of a potential fail due to lack of leadership. Invictus is great for her because H&M are virtually untouchable while they are in the company of these veterans, and good people have been in charge of organising the event. I note Invictus has changed some of its comms lately, some of it sounding defensive and snippy and, iirc, asking for donations. The video they released the day before yesterday was timed to clash with William's gallery event showcasing homeless/formerly homeless artists - deliberate, some might say, as that's the H&M M.O..
