Well, yes.
Even if he does start spending more time in the UK, things will never be the same.
His relationships with family, friends, Palace Officials and Household Staff - all irrevocably altered. Because of his behaviour.
Even if he did come back and tried to rebuild relationships - the Press and the Public will forever be analysing every single interaction for signs of: anger, joy, annoyance, jealousy, grief etc.
It would be a struggle for any relationship to recover and gain any stability under those circumstances.
They could have had so much, they had so much goodwill and they threw it all away. For what?
Him to play polo and go on pointless psuedo-Royal tours and her to not sell jam on IG.
I mean, it's laughable.
I don't hate them, I don't particularly dislike them - I just have no respect for them.
Being a Royal is not a life I would want, but feck me, even I could have made a better job at it. Free gratis accomodation for life, very generous allowance, access to literal Crown jewels, being given charitable roles (that Meghan would never have been even able to dream of before - if that's actually what she wanted), gold standard level security for all your public appearances.
And if they didn't want to be full-time working Royals I have absolutely no doubt Charles would have kept them quite comfortably in luxury with them only putting in the odd public appearance. I could put up with the curtseying in exchange for that.
When you look at what they had and what they have now (and have to do). I hope it was worth it. They chose to leave and blow up everything. A scorched earth approach is never sensible.
Edit for clarification
